Great work!! I just have one question. Why is it that inkjet printing doesn't work for this application? Is it because the ink can run when the paper is wet? It is not convenient to get photo copies but I guess I can look into a laser printer. :)
i got bits of paper on my finished producted after I removed the paper, is that ok? Is there a way to avoid that? Also, how much gel medium do you have to put on to get a thick product?
@17yearslater I seem to find small remnants of paper on the piece when done. I try to remove as much as I can but unless you are using the special paper for this process, it is nearly impossible to make a truly clean image. You do the best you can. The "paper" will be encased in acrylic medium when attached to the surface, hope for the best.
There is no set rule for thickness. I apply about 1/8" or so and when dry it is about half that. Experimentation will show you what to do.
Sorry, I don't speak well English and didn't understand you. What is the white paint that you put over the glass? I can understand better the reading English than the heared English :-)
Thanks for sharing your interesting video :-) Greetings from Spain.
You need to do what you feel best. I was taught that most water has minerals and trace elements that may discolor acrylics over time. Most acrylic makers suggest using distilled water and many of my professors did as well. Just got in the habit of using it and got a distiller many years ago. Just think it best for my work.
When I scanned it I turned the image into four levels of white to black via photoshop. It is a stenciling technique and works well for some transfers.
Thank you so much for this. Such a clear, detailed tutorial. Can this method be used for color transfers from a inkjet? Perhaps you address this question in part 2? I'll go watch it. :) Anyway, thanks again.
Excellent video! It's not often that we are given such detail, which helps us learn. I have found only 2 other artists on YouTube who are as wonderful with sharing such detail ... PaganArtGuy and Capricorn. Thank you so very much!
WorldFamousSilk, I have been using either Golden Gloss Soft Gel or their standard Gloss Gel Medium, but, almost anything will work. I happen to like gloss because it is clear when dry. Some of the matt finishes will look "soft" or "cloudy:" due to the matting materials used. Just my preference.
Great video, thanks very clear and looks fun to do, I can't wait to get started.

Can I use Golden Regular Gel (Matte)?

inkjet inks are water soluble and run when acrylic (water based) gels are applied. The brush work alone will cause it to run.

Is acrylic gloss medium the same thing? What is different about the "soft"?

@GinebrasinLancelot
I use a soft gel medium, gloss. No color, just the standard clear soft gel or regular gel but I prefer the gloss finish, not the matt finish.

why distilled water? Is it critical?

my paper curls like crazy after i put it on the gel!

Sounds to me as though you may not be using enough gel for it to adhere properly. Or, it is developing a skin before you attach the paper.

great! What do you use for scraping the transfer
great! Thanks!! Did you used "scraping-paper" to scratch the picture?

Thanks for info. I use photoshop and was not aware of this technique. I'll search net for more detail on how to do this.
