Why would the british be jealous of Americans? Its basicly the same country and same people. Only there laws are a bit worse than Americans. Is it because they were at war with us some 100 years ago? Well its over now.
@SaulMeyersz wow a racist american how refreshing. do you want to throw in how everyone wants to be America or how cool everything is be proud of your country but don't start bitching about places or people you obviously know nothing about, but your an asshole and instead of coming back with anything of value you will probably just type something insulting and racist. they could make action figures of your kind, your that predictable.
@SaulMeyersz Wow, I'm nor American nor British but even I see how full of yourself you are... You just added a wonderful example to the "dumb American patriot" stereotype... Sorry for, well, offending you, but what you said was so degrading...
@SaulMeyersz Do you hate all British people? I quite like some Americans, when I went over there it was brilliant. Your women are superior! But why do you dislike the Brits so much? You do to much stereotyping, everyone is different stop catergorizing based on nationality.
@iloveneytiri im sick of these comments about how the original is better and so on or this and that..
im here watching ricky and stephen and if you allways look back it turns into this our race is better than yours bullshit. i was never nationalistic till i started watching ricky on youtube.
@SaulMeyersz Then rise above it . I happen to think the original is better but I also realise that is because I'm British and I have quite different humour from most of the Americans and vice versa. Just leave the idiots to rant and rave and enjoy Gervais/Merchant for being absolutely brilliant at what they do!
I'm really jealous of you. I mean, I assume, by looking at your spelling you're about 11. When I was 11 I didn't have the internet. You're a very lucky boy. As for your country, I live in your country and all I ever get is Americans telling me how cool my accent is, how they love the British etc. I'd also like to thank your women for being so easy I only have to say one thing and they're all over me and my accent. Good times.
@SaulMeyersz You have more women who are fat, smell and sweat when they eat. You do have plenty of stunners though, and I would like to thank them for being so easy that all I have to do is say Hi to them and they are all over me. I love being British.
I'm Italian, educated in the UK. I've been on the "who's funny, who isn't" bandwagon for years. It all comes down to culture. Europe has many more years of it. Sarcasm and British Whit need self-critisism. Americans have, by no fault of their own, ZERO culture. The also cannot self-critisize. The are brainwashed from the beginning in wanting to be cool, the captain of a football team, the bread winner.. If your salary goes up you have to change neigbourhood. No Itendity, no funny..
@fdl333 changing neighborhoods isn't just about status. the biggest reason a wealthy american would need to move is for security reasons. poorer neighborhoods tend to house more people that are willing to break into your house and steal your shit
Oh my God, when did the comments turn into Anglo-American war? For God's sake, we're allies. Americans are our descendants. Get over it and get along!
who knows. To be honest, I just don't think it matters. If I'm gonna be completely truthful I certainly watch a lot more American Comedy shows than British, like American Dad, The Office, Parks and Recreations etc. But that doesn't mean I value American Humor any more than British Humor, In fact I think the concept of being able to define an entire Nation's Humor is absurd.
it is very annoying..i enjoy both american and british...everything - so i don't know why it always has to turn into a "we're better than you are" contest

gervais is a clever comedian but i suspect he can be a bit of a bitch.i saw a programme where he was tying up his mate in sellotape and humiliating him and thouhght it was hilarious, the 'friend' ws playing along with it cos he probably wanted to keep his job as an assistant or whatever
They're funnier because they use clever wit to make jokes and humour where as americans just vomit puke that is so unfunny that it makes people WANT TO SICK CARROTS!...which isn't funny at all.
Well you're right, Ignorance is bliss. But the fact that american humor is second fiddle to british humour is obvious. I'll tell you who you don't want to bring into the argument....australian humour.... because right now?.....Australia just ain't funny. But I'm talking broadcast humour too.... local humour is pretty good since I moved in.....
Gervais is really a tender hearted guy- he does it because tons of people find it funny. the thing is, we're all human, we're all gonna die, we're all vulnerable. Its the in your face awkward movements he loves and so he capitalizes on that.
Gervais though... Anybody who really knows him, like has heard him speaking genuinely or just heard him speaking for more than a few minutes will know that he's an intelligent, polite, articulate, well-meaning, wise wise man.
The same people who get offended by Gervais are surely the same who get offended by Eminem. Yet these people don't get offended by Mad Max or Goodfellas as they know they're not real...
I can see how you could get offended by say... Bernard Manning, because he was a self-admitted racist and so on... So his comedy was actually coming from a bad place and he probably believed a lot of the things he said. Using stand-up less as a medium for comedy but more as a political high-horse.
Somebody somewhere is always going to take something the wrong way either because they don't understand the backworks of it or are simply dumb. Or chose to misconscrew it to make it offensive as for some wierd reason there seems to be a portion of this planet who sort of... Enjoy getting offended. It's like they go out of their way to spot as many things that niggle them just for the privilage of pointing it out and claiming emotional disjustice... Bizzare.
I just can't see how you can get offended by him when he says such things or makes fun of a guy in a wheelchair when he's obviously in persona and... Just taking the piss. Which is surely the essence of comedy? How could anything be funny without there being a victim. You could tell a joke about a pencil and get poets saying they're 'offended' as it's their tool of work I mean...
One last thing - To the guy who said he gets offended by Ricky; Congratulations, you don't get irony!
I honestly cannot see how you can get offended by Gervais. His irony is always clever and hilarious but beyond that, it's OBVIOUS. Not to say he's not subtle, of course he is in his timing and performing style but the actual irony is obvious.
Although it's a kind of network sitcom with a few cliche's... I do find it pretty funny. Ryan Reynolds is especially good.
The other of course being Curb Your Enthusiasm. I didn't rate Larry David on Seinfield but Curb is fucking excellent. So unique in it's output. Disproves the theory of all Americans being unfunny! What a class show as well.
Well, I'm done, I think I just typed the entire contents of my brain. Good night and Darwin bless.
Some of them even cringinly bad , I mean so UNfunny that they're hard to watch. Friends springs immediately to mind. Seinfield is hailed as a classic too... Have to say, I can't see the beauty of it. Pretty average IMO.
Not to say all of the US is unfunny that would be fucking silly. Infact, there is SOME good US comedy on TV, of course you've got The Simpsons (fan-tas-tic!), Futurama... South Park and Family Guy.
But I've yet to find a sort of 'good' genre for US comedy. Not a substantial one anyway, you get the one offs very occasionally but most comedy hailed by Americans as genius or classic comedies tend to be in the 'bad' section to me.
Comedy pandering to the masses with laughter tracks, zany one liners every 2 minutes, predictable plotlines, no substance and steretypical characters getting into 'amusing' scrapes.
About US comedy. Well... Personally I've despised the majority of it for a long time. In the UK we seem to have... 'good' comedy and 'bad' comedy. Now the 'bad' comedy is obviously comedy made for the masses, sort of UK equivalent of network comedies in the US. Things like Bread, My Family etc.
Which is ok for sort of background TV aka TV you have on whilst chatting to aid uncomfortable pauses... But thank god we've got the latter.
In my opinion, you can't beat British comedy, the 'good' comedy in Britain is always intelligent, ironic, beautifully timed, original and usually timeless.
The Office, Extras, Blackadder, Peep Show, Fawlty Towers, The Mighty Boosh, MONTY PYTHON, The Royle Family... No need to even mention anything else!
You never realise how petty yourself even sound until you read it back after the initial anger has gone. I've done it myself on previous 'YouTube debates'. Fucking funny.
About the guy who just dismissed UK Comedy and summed it up as 'running around' obviously a blatent reference to Benny fucking Hill... What a cock.
First off - Gervais is a fucking comedy genius. The Office, Extras, Animals, Politics, Fame, Podcasts... Amazing. And I love the fact he accepts awards ironically as to not make his speech cringingly cliche' like everyone else. PS. Can't wait for This Side of the Truth.
Secondly, I've just been reading the HUGE argument spanning back pages n pages about US vs UK culture / comedy etc. Have to say, fucking hilarious.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Aye me too. Was something interesting to read while the vid buffed.
I LOVE british comedy. That being said Mr Gervais does tend to rub me up the wrong way sometimes. Something about digging himself into a moral hole and refusing to quit digging. It'd be hilarious if I wasn't so offended.
I'm not an easily offended person, (plus the chap seemed to take it in good humour) but I just felt my toes curl watching this. It doesn't feel like a parody nor does it have any ironic value, i.e.(and I hate to touch on another taboo here, or even use the word taboo as it's a remarkably silly sounding word) certain racist jokes are amusing simply because it's hilarious that anyone would ever make such jokes. I get feeling here that Gervais is just being shocking for the sake of being shocking.
he isnt taking it "in good humour" that makes him sound like a victim of bullying having to smile for the camera. hes just laughing at a bit of banter. hes appeared in "politics" aswell so he obviously gets the irony and chooses to be part of it. i dont think you get the joke because your one of the people ricky is parodying
this show is everything that is the cancer of modern british television---sounds fair enough...im talking about the awards ceremony....the clip wasnt of extras but of an awards ceremony. baaaaaaaa....... baaaaaaa.....
THAT'S NOT FUNNY! THERE IS NOTHING FUNNY IN THIS VIDEO. NO ONE GOOD LINE!

Yet these people don't get offended by Mad Max or Goodfellas as they know they're not real...
eminemfansite 3 years ago
I can see how you could get offended by say... Bernard Manning, because he was a self-admitted racist and so on... So his comedy was actually coming from a bad place and he probably believed a lot of the things he said. Using stand-up less as a medium for comedy but more as a political high-horse.
eminemfansite 3 years ago
Somebody somewhere is always going to take something the wrong way either because they don't understand the backworks of it or are simply dumb. Or chose to misconscrew it to make it offensive as for some wierd reason there seems to be a portion of this planet who sort of... Enjoy getting offended. It's like they go out of their way to spot as many things that niggle them just for the privilage of pointing it out and claiming emotional disjustice... Bizzare.
eminemfansite 3 years ago
I just can't see how you can get offended by him when he says such things or makes fun of a guy in a wheelchair when he's obviously in persona and... Just taking the piss. Which is surely the essence of comedy? How could anything be funny without there being a victim. You could tell a joke about a pencil and get poets saying they're 'offended' as it's their tool of work I mean...
eminemfansite 3 years ago

Ironically all cartoons... Why can't the US duplicate that smart, satirical humor more progressively using HUMAN actors instead of drawings?...
To date I've only actually seen two funny US sitcoms. First - Two Guys and a Girl. That was pretty dead in the US but got quite big in the UK.
eminemfansite 3 years ago
Some of them even cringinly bad , I mean so UNfunny that they're hard to watch. Friends springs immediately to mind. Seinfield is hailed as a classic too... Have to say, I can't see the beauty of it. Pretty average IMO.
Not to say all of the US is unfunny that would be fucking silly. Infact, there is SOME good US comedy on TV, of course you've got The Simpsons (fan-tas-tic!), Futurama... South Park and Family Guy.
eminemfansite 3 years ago

But thank god we've got the latter.
eminemfansite 3 years ago
In my opinion, you can't beat British comedy, the 'good' comedy in Britain is always intelligent, ironic, beautifully timed, original and usually timeless.
The Office, Extras, Blackadder, Peep Show, Fawlty Towers, The Mighty Boosh, MONTY PYTHON, The Royle Family... No need to even mention anything else!
As well as Britain's stand-up!

What a cock.
eminemfansite 3 years ago
First off - Gervais is a fucking comedy genius. The Office, Extras, Animals, Politics, Fame, Podcasts... Amazing. And I love the fact he accepts awards ironically as to not make his speech cringingly cliche' like everyone else. PS. Can't wait for This Side of the Truth.
Secondly, I've just been reading the HUGE argument spanning back pages n pages about US vs UK culture / comedy etc. Have to say, fucking hilarious.

I agree. The majority of people find gareth's hair and david's beard the funnier parts of the office

LMFAO at the guy who thought Benny Hill was the pinnacle of British comedy or at all relevant in modern British comedy.
In short, get educated or go back to classic American comedy such as "Everybody Loves Raymond".

I get feeling here that Gervais is just being shocking for the sake of being shocking.
mistertarmac 3 years ago
he isnt taking it "in good humour" that makes him sound like a victim of bullying having to smile for the camera. hes just laughing at a bit of banter. hes appeared in "politics" aswell so he obviously gets the irony and chooses to be part of it. i dont think you get the joke because your one of the people ricky is parodying
