His character has become stale how? People still talk and care about him and everything he does, hence the mixed-up chants. Those Go Cena-Cena SUCKS! chants are an indication that Cena's character is far from stale; it only signifies that he is still very much over with the crowd, albeit in a very unusual way for a babyface. If he was stale, he'd be cutting promos and wobbling his way amidst an eerie silence. No Go Cena. No Cena SUCKS. Roughly the same as the usual Tyson Kidd entrance.

Maybe he cut back a little because of the new PG rating. Stale does not by any means indicate silence.

But then think of the loss in revenue that would ensue by turning away the kids and their parents from Cena. Then think of the Summer of Punk - would Punk have shot his shoot if there were no perception that Cena's greatness is over-rated?

Plenty of former WWE writers, like David Lagana and John Piermarini, have both recommended Cena turn heel to bring in more pay-per-view sales and ratings. Merchandise sales cannot be placed above pay-per-view sales, and right now they are. With the current trend, the WWE will continue to lose money. Punk would have shot his shoot because he was fed up with the workings of the WWE.
