I really like having Torres here in Phoenix. We all know how he plays, and saw that when he got the 2-game suspension. He's scored a couple clutch goals though, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do for us in the playoffs after watching him last season in VAN. Assuming we stay where we're at and make the playoffs.

The reason any contact was made with the head was because of Seabrook playing with his head down, which isn't Torres' fault. Incidental contact isn't illegal.
If you think you can play with your head down and just not be hit, than you should not be playing hockey. Only debate here was Torres just came off a suspension.

How come some people are calling this a clean hit???? I have been a hockey fan for years so I know quite a bit and I didn't look like Seabrook touched the puck before the hit!! So that would be considered an illegal hit!
The stupid thing is you could see the whole playoffs after every whistle the canucks got pounded by players constantly slashing them in the back of the legs, cross checking, or just straight roughing them up. But since that stuff wasn't extreme and it's playoffs none of it is even called a penalty and when the canucks do things during the play they hit harder and get calls like this. Seabrook is looking back to accept a pass. You can't have your head up and except a pass that you can't see. And just because he's not looking, that shouldn't give Torres carte-blanch to to intentionally hit Seebs in the head with his shoulder. That was dirty. I was glad Rome got suspended, but Torres' hit was way worse and considering that he was just coming back from a suspension for this exact same hit. Rather there head is up or not, a player shouldn't go around intentionally trying to knock their heads off. That's not hockey. That's an intent to injure.

It is now illegal to target a player's head, blindside or not. There will be hitting to the head, but when it's intentionally targeted, like Torres did here on Seabrook or like he did on Eberle, it's illegal. And it doesn't have to be an elbow. Any check that targets the head on purpose is illegal.

Seabrook is looking back to accept a pass. You can't have your head up and except a pass that you can't see. And just because he's not looking, that shouldn't give Torres carte-blanch to to intentionally hit Seebs in the head with his shoulder. That was dirty. I was glad Rome got suspended, but Torres' hit was way worse and considering that he was just coming back from a suspension for this exact same hit. He's not skating with his head down, he's looking back to accept a pass.

@jbobbster it doesn't matter if he was accepting a pass, he still had his head down and his body was turned coming around the net and he put himself in that vulnerable position, it's the player's own responsibility to be aware on the ice all the time, and a clean shoulderheck to the head is still allowed in a north/south position....that is the stupidest remark i ever heard " he's not skating with his head down,he's looking back to accept a pass", obviously you don't know squat about hockey..

Look at Sidney Crosby or Marc Savard. They were in vulnerable positions too and took head shots. Now we don't know if they'll ever be the same. Paul Kariya just retired because of concussions. I'm guessing you want a long line of players to get carted off with career threatening injuries just because they were in vulnerable spots.

Yeah, you should keep your head up when playing a fast-paced game like hockey. But there is no way you can have your head up every time you're on the ice when playing hockey. You have to look down to take a pass or follow through with your shot. Are you saying it's Marc Savard's fault that Cooke hit him with an elbow to the head just because he didn't have his head up

@blackicebandit It seems you want players to be carted off and have debilitating brain damage l You're not tough just because you can check someone in the head. That's cheap, and where a bulk of concussions come from. It's one thing when it's unintentional hits to the head, but it's intent to injure when you target a players head. There's no regard for safety there. Torres could have done a number of different things in that situation, but intentionally going for the head was uncalled for.

@blackicebandit Bottomline, there's clean, hard hockey hits and then there's dirty hockey hits. Just take a look at Scott Stevens. He made hard hockey hits, but he always kept them clean. He didn't go out intentionally trying injure someone with blows to the head. I'm all for hard hitting hockey, but not for dirty cheap hits of players. Rather there head is up or not, a player shouldn't go around intentionally trying to knock their heads off. That's not hockey. That's an intent to injure.

@jbobbster maybe you do a little research and actually watch the rules..look up new nhl 2010/2011 rules head hits, a clean shouldercheck is actually still considered a clean hit..doesn't matter if the head was targeted it or not..like i said before it is inevitable, some guys are just bigger, taller and tougher ,why the nhl is not gonna completely remove headhits..if you don't like it..maybe you should watch another sport..i suggest soccer or figure skating

@blackicebandit maybe you should look up the rules, if you don't have brain damage from taking shots to the head. GMs meeting this past June, owners ok'd new a new headshot rule. It is now illegal to target a player's head, blindside or not. There will be hitting to the head, but when it's intentionally targeted, like Torres did here on Seabrook or like he did on Eberle, it's illegal. And it doesn't have to be an elbow. Any check that targets the head on purpose is illegal.

@jbobbster okay well i didn't know that and i finally seen the rule change...even if they did change the rules "all headhits deemed illegal" this past spring... the torres hit would be still be considered a clean hit as the playoff game was in april and the new rule wasn't in effect yet..which would be still be a clean hit and in my opinion, the nhl is always changing the rules and pussifying itself, taking away old time hockey , which is likely to lose a lot of fan base, i just don't like it,
