  • I live in Florida now(yr 2011) in west palm beach, and i must say i lived on ridge street right off of houston street in 1985 were and i must say those were the most fulfilling and genuine time of my life. the people were more down to earth and genuine unlike these stuck up think there shit don't stink people here in west palm beach. New york I miss you you will always have a special place in my heart.

  • ahhh the sounds of the city. Sirens. i loved the dog. sooo cute.

  • cu~ao, que pasooo! lol.

  • thank you for filming.. wished i had a cam back then .. moved to 11 street in aug 1980 -- no one would come to visit me ...ave a and b was too scary they told me.. rhsc nyc

  • u can tell the lower east side was bad out of all the sirens u hear threw out the vid

  • I used to live on e. 11th street bet. 2nd and 3rd ave back then. My 1st apartment was a squat on e.7th street 1978 I was 16. Use to hang out at king tut's wha wha hut, park inn, nightbirds, holiday, veselkas. Remember CBGB's, Mudd Hut, 2bc, World. The ska clubs in Williamburg on bdwy off Bedford. So many memories. The place is now a white, wanna be, artsy, fartsy midwestern enclave with make believe french bistros, trust funds racists who think they're liberal. I now live in the Caribbean.

  • But now the color and vigor of a city is literally white washed. Don't worry, you'll still get those "diverse" jukeboxes, but usually hand picked by un diverse fingers. Anyway, I'm pretty young and grew up on 7th street and only wish the city had half the respect for the poor as they do the rich.

  • And yes, the city was quite a different place back then. There were more interesting characters in the neighborhood, like Hank.

  • I knew Hank! He was part wolf. Quite intimidating looking but a real sweetheart. He was mellow and walked around off leash with no problems (that I know of). He would wander into Tompkins Square park and hang out at the dog run. He belonged to a guy who was a bartender at the corner bar of 7th & B. Loved Hank and it's great to see him again.

  • Whoa dude! I live right around the corner (since 2001). I can't imagine what it was like back then!

  • Wow, blast from the past. You've captured a side of the east village most people never knew existed, alphabet city was a much different place back then with some very colorful inhabitants. I used to hang out in "Downtown Beruit" which had a jukebox as diverse as the patrons, skinheads to NYU students, Sex Pistols to Frank Sinatra.

Documentary quality video, thanks for the memories!
