  • What's the difference between popping off a jump and ollieing off a jump? You're launching off the tail on both of them right?

  • @MrDrAwesome just try to pop off your jumps ollieing is harder then just popping. Plus you can do the same stuff popping as you could ollieing off jumps.

  • Thanks Doug.

  • which country is this? and also where is this?

  • I can do a ollie on flat ground perfectly. But when I try it off the jump I cant balance right in the air. I tend to fall on my butt. Any suggestions?

  • What's the advantage of this over just jumping with both feet at once?

  • Hey quick question I was wondering what bored might be better for me. I'm slowly moving my way into more park, and trying to do jumps. What would be better between the Burton Custom and the Burton Custom Flying V? Thanks!

  • gotta try this

  • Damn my boken wrist!

  • I like the toaster at the end <3 *-*

  • I used to have that board I broke it after a month

  • Good video! I have trouble getting pop out of my board. I am going to try this.

  • WHERE DOES ALL THIS FLEX COME FROM THE BOARD?

  • love the song in the beginning... Raconteurs!

  • this dudes style kinda sucks

  • hey doug, any additional tips on how you can get the nose of the board up as high as the one you did in 0:02 and 1:28? will practicing a deep press help me with the nose/tail block? thanks!

  • wht the fuck am i watching this

  • Its a Burton custom guys.. even says custom on the board..

  • hey sierra, im looking for a new board, i would like something with good turning capabilities, but i would like something soft, but not tooo much, since i cant seem to do tricks easily with the deck i currently have

  • if snowboarding is like skateboarding then i should be a pro

  • Someone please tell me the name of the board and bindings he is using. Pleeeassse!

  • @soadrocks4 he is using burton custom board and custom est bindings

  • is the ollie hard to learn like on a skateboard or is it super easy>?

  • great video, cant wait to hit the slopes again this year!

  • if you skateboard already, will you get higher ollies bc you're used to the pop and landing?

  • teach me how to olliee

  • i have that jacket :)

  • WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL STANCE, HOW DO YOU PUT YOUR FRONT AND BACK FEET AND HOW FAR APART ARE YOUR FEET? PLEASE ANSWER ASAP, THANKS!

  • Hey Doug i have the same board and the top sheet colors seems to be coming off real easy, for example all the black colors are turning white, i was wondering if this was normal with this board.

  • Makes all the other ollie videos rubbish.

  • why do i live in Holland, fucking flattest country in the world...

  • what are some tricks if you have a snowboard with more camber?

  • Usually all this stuff comes naturally when snowboarding for me... idk why anyone would need to be taught how to ollie on a snowboard. Its kinda just common sense.

  • Doug, whered you buy your snowboarding gear? Forget the ollies, i just want to LOOK like you going down the slopes.

  • I know how to ski and ive never been snowboarding before so im watching videos before i learn this year... maybe watching this video before the season even starts is a bit early? great video!!! completely crushes expert village :)

  • Would u recommend practicing on flat ground before trying on a easy hill?

  • totally off topic...but can large burton bindings fit on a regular sized about a 149 burton board?? with i get tons of toe and or heel drag??

  • hey dude greats vids , i skate and im snowboarding tomozza for the first time is it pretty much the same as an ollie on a skateboard

  • @Roll4Eternity AHAHAHAHAHAHAHASHAH

  • i just had a brilliant idea

you guys should make an APP for smartphones

it would be easy and accessible on slopes!

    do it!

  • @Hist0ryMaker Great Idea.

  • ugh I've been trying ollies on a skateboard for a while now and can't do it....i snowboard more so i bet i'll pull this off!!....next winter....

  • @pimpslap101117 - You can, but when there is no jump an ollie can load the board to give you super pop on the flats.

  • @sierrasnowboard i think what he's is asking is why ant you just jump straight up without popping. you can just jump but doing an ollie makes it easier to jump and get more height than just jumping straight up

  • @sierrasnowboard I skateboard and snowboard, and when I jump in snowboarding I do something (don't ask me what) and I jump, I feel like I am just jumping but I get really high (not high in the smoking way...), I don't knowm is this an ollie? Or am I just jumping?

  • is it like a skateboard ollie but instead of popping and flicking you pop and lift the back foot?

  • @danielpb10 - It is quite similar to the skateboard ollie. You still can use the flick and you push off the back foot to generate pop which then pushes up your back foot.

  • @lankygibbon - I am happy that you enjoyed the vid.

  • YEAAAAAAA SQUAW VALLEY! I was just up there this weekend and I'm going back next weekend!

Thanks for the video- hopefully I'll be able do rails soon

  • @beezlybup - You Bet!!

  • @beezlybup - Great!!

  • what mountain is this???

  • @masont18 - Squaw Valley USA

  • hey doug.Im sorry to say but when you tell people to start by puting weight on thier front foot first you are wrong.I've been skating and snowboarding for 15 years and tips like that slow the progression of the sport .peoples weight should be centered before the iniitial pop and putting weight on your front foot only to transfer it back again will only confuse things. Do you ever really see anyone put weight directly on there front foot before poping on to a hand rail? i dont think so.

  • @Mikeyseewhyare - Mike it is all about the movement of the board under the body. To generate the most energy the range of motion to load the tail can be increased. A good centered stance is always the basis for helping to create balance as people setup for a maneuver. Thanks for the feedback.

  • @Mikeyseewhyare i do it just like in the video and i got a huuuuge pop mainly cause you have a momentum of your body going onto the tail so your transfering a lot of energy to get pop i think you should try it i'm sure you'll change your mind :D

  • hey Doug,

any additional tips on how to get the nose of your board as high as you do at 1:18 and that tail block(?) on 1:28? do you bend the front leg more or bend the torso farther forward? i can't really tell. Thanks, bro. I appreciate it.

  • @punkxr0ck3r - You need to flick the board from one foot to the other with more intensity and then punch the leg to create pop while your other leg is pulled into the air. This will help to get to the extremes of the maneuvers.

  • @sierrasnowboard i didn't know that was a snowboard trick too. thanks

  • Thank you, much better than expertvillage.

  • when i ollie, i do it backwards. instead of lifting the tip off the ground, i lift the tail off. it feels more normal. is this bad?

  • @MrLetterboy - That is called a Nollie. You should learn to do both.

  • Question: do you recommend this going off booters? because i don't really ollie off them. i just hit them at that certain speed to land on the transition. should i be doing this?

  • @crv26 - As you can see from earlier comments, you do not need to do a full ollie off a jump, but you still need to load the tail to generate pop.

  • What degree of bindings you recomend for jumpy style of riding? Somewhere I read that "duck stance" is good for this, other place I read it's not good. What's your opinion?

  • @basilolo - Yes, ride a duck stance. I ride 12, -12 but it is all up to rider preference.

  • @sierrasnowboard Fair enough for me ;-) I see many riders with this stance, so it must be good ;-)

  • @sierrasnowboard

what does a more open duck stance do to your riding? I rode 15-15 but today i tried 21 21, seems even more stable but my knees are starting to hurt a bit

  • This video is great! I practiced to ollie in the park yesterday, but couldn't do it... I was wondering maybe my board is too hard for it, I have a K2 Brigage Wide 163, I'm 220lb 6'4", is it possible that my board is no flexible enough? thanks.

  • @ArenaTM - It should be just fine with your weight. The Ollie is generated by movements of the legs to pop you off the ground. The stiffer boards have more potential for pop if flexed.

  • awesome video, straight and to the point, good job

  • @drhizzlshizzl - Thanks

  • Wssup doug, thanks fer all ur videos, got some really helpful tips, and will be incorporating them into my ride dis weekend. I have a couple questions about the board setup tho. Wut stance angles do u use? and if im starting out in hitting jumps and grabs, wut stance and angle do u reccomend for me? im using a shorter board for more stability. Right now I have it at duckstance, while i wuhs on powder at mammoth, but will be going to mt.high dis weekend, and its mostly manmade.

    Thanks- tim

  • @timfsho - Tend to ride Twin shaped boards at 22.5" wide and 12, -12 for stance angles. I ride like this in the powder and in the park.

  • Hey Sierra, I was just wondering if, in the future, you are going to make a video on switch ollies.

  • @MrPidgeonDroppings - It is not in the to do list. We will most likely do a different kind of video on learning to generate pop in the board. The Switch ollie is a bit more tricky. Make sure to use the full range of movements and be sure to be pressuring on the outside of your foot on the switch tail when popping into the ollie.

  • what can I do to ollie higher? seems like pros like chris bradshaw can ollie over slow signs or fences off flat ground, but I can only ollie half as high. I don't even think I can jump that high on foot.

  • @sunshinevancouver Practice and a board with lots of pop!

  • @sunshinevancouver - Snap into the ollie more aggressively, increase the intensity of the fore/aft movement.

Bring the front foot higher into the air, the height of the ollie is directly related to how high the front foot goes.

Suck up the knees to the chest as you pop into the air.

  • Can you make a ollie on ski's??

  • @Xstefanx4 - You can generate pop from a ski, but you cannot ollie a ski.

  • @sierrasnowboard

    I however

  • When going off a jump, do I pop or Ollie?

  • @DaFueyBomb - When you Ollie you are generating pop, but all types of pop are not generated by the ollie. Off jumps you want to load the tail as you are coming off the jump. You don't have to do the full ollie. Keep it simple as you are learning to pop and just press off the jump with your legs as your back foot is coming off the lip.

  • Very informative. Thank you for your tutorial :)

  • Ya what if you board is kinda stiff too

  • @crazywiikid66 - Drive harder into the board. The stiffer the board the more return you will get out of the pop.

  • But if it is as tall as me can i still grind on it?

  • @crazywiikid66 - yes

  • what if you have a stiff board?

  • @cowgomeow17 - Stiff is good for ollies with big pop.

  • if i want to grind rails would i need a smaller board mine is about my height

  • @crazywiikid66 - For jibs you want a bit shorter of a board. The board should never be as tall as you. Even though the board length is based on weight it should land somewhere around chin height.

  • Oh wow, your way better than expert village. Thanks

  • @Haloreach96 - It will be a bit easier, but a stiff camber board will give you better pop in a high intensity ollie.

  • I have a board but I don't know if it is too big. I don't know the size but I was hitting some 180s and I felt fine. Does it matter that much?

  • @xKodxKillerx - Sounds like it is working okay

  • i luv that run! emigrant

  • May be a stupid question... do you have to ollie on a jump? Not the way you trolls are thinking it, i mean to make it look cleaner I don't want to look like a shitty beginner >.> I snowboard on my friends hill we make jumps on but we don't really jump...we just kind of hit it and lean backwards haha :P

  • @dangzard - Check out our Basic Airs video. You can pop just by extending the legs on a basic air off a jump.

  • I think your videos are great. love your attention to details and clear explanation, just started snowboarding and found your videos to be very helpful. thanks

  • That's a fresh jacket.

  • but what is the best way to jump on a kick? is bend the legs or do an ollie?

  • @nipote94 - Keep it to a simple extension of the legs until you are more comfortable.

  • That's the best how to ollie video so far. Now I reckon I actually understand how to do it.

  • so i have been snowboarding for a couple days now and i got my carving and basics down. I have been practicing on my ollies and trying some little jumps. What else can i work on that is for begginers, or what should i work on next?

  • @Mrslothman22 - butters, Presses, Flat land 360's, slashes, grounded 180's...

  • Hi i just got the Ride splash with slime walls 155 size and it seems pretty stiff is it just me cause i'm only 90-100 pounds or is the board just stiff cause it makes it hard to do some things?

  • @lougnut nicee bro i just got the same board and can't wait to ride it for the first time. i can't personally tell you about the splash but from what i know you are wayy too light for that size of a board.

  • @lougnut - That board is too big for you weight.

  • I have that beanie.

  • thanks , nice video, this really helped me.

  • @ghostface835 - Happy I could help!

  • why cant i just bend my legs and jump???? seems alot easyer

  • @americanpaintball - You can, but you will never get as much air as when you do a true ollie.

  • @sierrasnowboard Is that true? Can you really ollie higher than you can while jumping up? I think it just seems that way because your nose goes higher, or maybe the board bounces up to bend your legs more. But the core of your boady doesn't seem to go that high. I mean, if your tail is so stiff that it's like a pogo stick shooting you up into the air, would you be able to bend it fast enough to take advantage of that spring?

  • @sierrasnowboard

unless your able to jump high idk

  • @americanpaintball cause it will look like shit and you wont be able to get as high

  • Excellent video! Please keep videos like this coming!

  • Or just jump. Your feet are bound to the board lol

  • Hey Doug, a question. I rjust got the K2 Pulse boots, i've worn them around the house for about an hour. the fit is perfect, it was very comfortable but after about 45 minutes. It slightly pinches the top of my foot where the boot is as so |_ . in the center of the two lines. It Pinches slightly everytime i bend my leg as if i am doing a toeside turn. The pinch isnt that bad but its slightly irritating, is this going to be a problem or is it going to go away when i take it to the hill? :)

  • What jacket are you wearing? So fresh

  • @collins093 - Burton Shaun White Transition Jacket

  • I can already ollie but this still helped a lot

  • I just bought my 1st board. It's a 2009 Custom X, but I consider myself intermediate so I will be fine. I can ride well and catch some air and do 180s with ease. I can't wait to ride it!

  • what board do you recomend for starters and how long should my board be i'm 1,56

  • @BlueEdgePR0ductions - What is your weight and height?

  • @Probably a board that's about 40-45

  • what do you reccomend as a first trick

  • @chubbsmaloyHD

    180's and ollies are basic

  • @chubbsmaloyHD - Flat land 360's, Ollies and 50-50s

  • @sierrasnowboard haha NOLLIES TO! :O and tri pods <3 <3 <3 haha idk why but ugh.. they're meh fav haha

  • @dhrider1989 i went last year but i am going to try it this year so and i have been practicing over at a local hill with jumps so i can get better ya but i went a lot last year

  • what kind of board do you recommend for this?

  • @AtomicSnowboarda - All Boards!!

  • @AtomicSnowboarda Id go with twin (parrallel for switching and stuff really designed for skate parks

  • can u ollie on snowboard just by jumping?

  • @AndyMcArren1356 - An ollie takes the sequence of movements to execute properly.

There are other ways to jump on a snowboard.

  • good vid

  • any tips for rails? ive got ollies onto boxes down but alotta the time when i try a rail i slip out or slide off or miss haha

  • Definetly the best ollie tutorial I've seen yet

  • @vdl1996 - Thanks!!

  • i got mine on my first try cant wait to try it again this our ski/snowboarding place finally added a beginner terrain area cant wait to try it!!

  • ok i have one more question if you are fat will ur snowboard break on a rail on no becasue i dont want that to happen to me

  • @killa2517 it wont buddie

  • @dsdt67 k thanks

  • @dsdt67 are u sure because i am going to try 50 50 and board slide and i dont want it to break on me

  • ok now i am a beginnner at snowboarding is it really hard to go into the terrian oark if you are new

  • @killa2517 - Start practicing freestyle basics out side of the park and then start on the small and basic features. Learn to judge your speed and maintain balance.

  • @killa2517 Yeah dude, any expert will tell you that all the important basics can be picked up just cruising around the slopes. Have fun with your terrain, look for small features, its a lot more forgiving and frankly, you get to show off 'park stuff' outside the park :D

  • @ndk2k4 ok thanks just all u got to do is practice

  • Awsome

  • This man has a beauty of an ollie.

  • this question might be a little stupid, but do you also ollie when doing 180 or 360 tricks over kickers?? please answer :)

  • @YGriesi - No, You can create pop much more easily when the terrain has an upward trajectory and drops way from the board. Just wait to pop until the back foot is coming off the takeoff.

  • I've just bought a very flexible board(nitro haze) can i still take it off jumps?

  • @12armande - Yes, but you may find it to be a bit unstable when landing large jumps.

  • What a damn great video! Thanks, i did actually learn something! ^^

  • @deerhigh - Happy to help!

  • @sierrasnowboard so when you are going to hit a rail you have to olie on to it

  • @killa2517 - If is is not a ride on to, then yes. This is many times known as having a skate style approach.

  • @sierrasnowboard ok so if its not a ride up one then how close do u have to olie when u try it cuz i am goin to try terrrien park this year so thats why i am asking

  • Can you do ollie's with a stiff board?

  • @SerendipitousJ - For sure. Stiff boards will have the best return with you load them up into a powerful ollie.

  • @sierrasnowboard Oh ok... cuz being a girl, i find it difficult to ollie on a stiff board!

  • @Markmilkyway6922 - Рад слышать, что вам понравилось!

  • How To Pop An Ollie (Goofy Teacher)

  • it will not take long at all if u skate u will be comfterbul with a board and u will be able to hit a box or rail in no time ha its so much easer then skating

  • i'm an sponsored skateboarder and i go snowboarding for a week with school in Zillertal..... i got some experience with snowboarding how long would it take me to grind?

  • @spykay - Not long at all, especially the easier ride on boxes. You could be jibbing with in the first few days.

  • Hi guys, only been boarding a few weeks and your videos have been extremely helpful...if you're ever in the UK or at snowbombing i'll get the jagers in! :)
