Im with Homer Simpson. On this song and many other things. Seriously though there would not be too many rock bands out there that wouldnt wish they came up with this one. Classic.
Im only 31 but I love this song.... Reminds me of growing up riding with my pops in his Roadrunner with the Hemi.... No matter your age good music is just that....
@Nicky79658 Was net uit die skool in die tyd van gargae partytjies en discos. Die song was altyd 'n hit. Party mense het gedink die lirieke is "red heart love" Ek hou van jou musiek keuses, jy luister na 'n groot verskeidenheid
In their homecountry Holland (Netherlands) the national Post issued a stamp honouring Golden Earring's 50th anniversary in 2011.The stamp has a code which you scan and then you hear Radar Love. One of the first stamps ever with music. The band formed September 2nd 1961 in The Hague: founders were kids then,George (vocals/guitars) 13, Rinus (bass) 15.They were joined in 1967 by Barry (leadvocal here on Radar Love) and Cesar (drums).New studio album coming up this summer of 2012.
@thatguy66ish I don't think the Barry Hay is a Freddy lookalike as Queen did not excist, back when Golden Earing got their golden ages. Also their dresscode were typical a rock style, as Freddy took this code on his own too.
@markR656 He looks like him to me. The shirt is pretty freddyish.lol I still have to max the volume every time I hear this song. Twilight zone as well. More so.
@thatguy66ish Hey mate, you were absolutely right, when Radar Love came out in the 90's where the group Queen were world famous. But i tried to explain that Freddy Mecury was a bit unknown, when this song Radar love came out in the year 1973 so about 40 years ago.
@rattinox Who are Frieslanders? I only know Friezen, or Frisians in English. Besides, Golden Earring is not Frisian but Dutch. Too bad thought, cuz I'm Frisian.
I saw them live in the 70's. The lead singer really enjoys showing off his package with extra-tight pants. Didn't get it then or now. We know you're a boy.
@Obahai they could almost pass for Southern Rock if it were for the horn section LOL. I see Black Betty.. a Southern Rock song... is on the suggestion list.
The drum pattern intro sounds almost identical to Ballroom Blitz by Sweet. Funny both songs came out in 1973. I guess not only guitar players "borrow" from each other.
@CCRider100 Well, tbh, there's no copyrighted material for drums because there's only so many patterns you can do with drums eventually you will end up copying some other song, could be just pure coincidence
There where a lot of one hit wonder groups in those years. You don't see them these days cause the industry produces music these days and the groups are investments they keep going for a few years to extract their return on investment. At the same time you do not see groups with Long carriers these days either. Let a band last too long and they do things like start their own record label and ask for a higher cut of returns… that’s a No No.
@reggaed0n pity they have speedcamera madness and the speed limits are quite low. also, coming from driving in italy, driving is a real bitch in holland, cyclists everywhere!
@letsgetverydrunk not if you know where the speed cameras are, never been booked for speeding in NL, and cyclist are on cyclist lanes, and we don't have those on our highway
@letsgetverydrunk Compared to driving in Italy, at least if you mean near big cities, like Rome, there is a big difference and for that matter it's maybe a good thing we make sure people stick to the rules. Near Rome, they drive like crazy.
Love this song .. my children and now my grandchildren have been subjected, by me, to this great song. It was even played at my granddaughters 15th birthday party this year because she loves it so much :) And of course Grandma danced to it as though it was still the 70's!!
Back in the 70s when this record came out I got drunk at a party and fell over onto a broken bottle while this was playing. I have the scar on my back still and this song takes me back to that night like it was yesterday!
@ChorltonM21 .. Ha Ha .. hell yeah the 1970s was soo much fun. I'm glad I grew up in that era! I can recall my galpals and myself dancing like idiots to this song. Drinking Spumante (cheap girly drink in the 70's) and spewing up in the female toilets at discos .. oh the wonderful memories!
Hair like this and dressed like this in 2012 well , i hate to think what they would call you. Love the music played it as loud as it can be even in the sixties.
I keep a healthy balance of modern rock and metal, and rock and metal from the good old days. I think the "crap" music people are talking about is music on the radio like Jay-Z, Pitbull, Brittany Spears, and other overexposed famous artists. Except Eminem. His songs can be heartbreaking. I hate it when I hear a song on the radio that is all about sex, drugs, or a combination of both. Like is that all people thought to write about? This song actually says something
@perstoffer95 i'm not sure why a band trying their hardest to sound American makes you proud to be Dutch... be proud of what you have that is uniquely yours.
@karlthunderaxe - i'm not sure why a band trying their hardest to sound American makes you proud to be Dutch... be proud of what you have that is uniquely yours"
British rock singers of the 70's also tried to sound American. Both rock & roll and blues are American inventions, the Brits just gave it the Rock (without the roll) by adding heavy sounding guitar with good ole English amps such as Marshall. Oddly, many 70's American rock bands then tried to sound British.
@Drulil Mate check out the other DUTCH band FOCUS,Their Hocus Pocus Track from 1973.
