For a second hand account it's a very good read, however the publishers made the mistake of using a testimonial from The Daily Mail, which claimed it was the best mountaineering book since 'modern classic' Into Thin Air - a disgraceful hatchet-job by shameless self-publicist, John Krakauer. If you want to hear the true story of the 'Everest disaster', read Anatoli Boukreev's 'The Climb'. He was the hero who risked his neck several times, going out to rescue people on the Southern Col.
Finished the book today, I'd definitely recommend this one to people. For every situation described, several points of view are given. So I think it is the most objective it can get.
@nazirsabir Climber can be used in a wide range of terms. Yes, technical rock climbing can be more difficult. But, add altitude, avalanche and serac danger, difficulty in following any sort of route, more than 3000 meters of dangerously exposed terrain and vertical gain, various sections of mixed climbing on polished rock and ice and the threat of a 'Karakorum' storm and you have something much more physically testing and challenging than any graded rock climb in the world, K2 !
@pikeflyfisherman before commenting and lecturing Nazir Sabir about K2 and or climbing perhaps you should simply type his name into google. ;-)
