Asbestos particles cause cancer (due to the IRRITATION it causes, asbestos itself is NOT carcinogenic, neither is vermiculite) but BOTH have been blamed on cancer.......so if aerogel only irritates the lungs, one could asume that chronic irritation by aerogel particles would probably just as irritating and carcinogenic to your lungs as vermiculite, asbestos, gypsum, etc. (which are also glass-like particles under a microscope just like aerogel dust is).......be careful.....use a mask
Its bristle, what the hell do you mean you pinched it and it broke? It can hold 6000 times it weight but it can't support you pressing down on it? Bullshit.
@nielsballing "Pressing firmly enough will cause a catastrophic breakdown in the sparse structure, causing it to shatter like glass—a property known as friability" Wikipedia. Yea, I know, however I assure you it is not LITERALY 99% air. 2 months ago I didn't know it had such properties, I have had time to learn more about it, now I know.
aerogel can hold in compression up to 4000 times its weight in force, so this dude got ripped off, or has no idea what he is talking about. based on the badges, probably the latter.
OMSI... I miss that place. Havent been there in probably close to 20 yers, and never had a chance to see the laser show. For those of you wondering, OMSI stands for Oregon Museum of Science and Industry
even though he lied it SCATTERS blue light and LETS THROUGH red light the same with the sky. it's a common misconception you can see as he's saying it the expression on his face is questioning what he is saying. but he's like bugger it i'm going to bulshit my way out of it.. i've commited to it now :D
this stuff is SOOOO cool, I remember in the mid 90s there was a show on discovery called Next Step, and they were talking about it, I wish they could mass produce it cheaply

@mfgootcagfy If it's 99% air, 6000 times it's weight isn't much

WHATS WITH THE NERD BADGES
NitroReviews 1 year ago
Wrong. Aerogel is blue because it scatters BLUE light, not red. Just like the atmosphere scatters blue light.

@redone632 thats why the sky is blue right?
