for me the one thing that makes the difference is that the ufc is much easier to follow. yes you will get hard core boxing fans that watch every fight on a ppv event but at the end of the day most people only tune in to watch the big names in boxing. whilst the ufc has structured itself so that you know just about every fighter on the card and 9/10 those fights are exciting and explosive. however a 8 round boxing match without a name is hard to watch for many fans
MMA reaches some people because they relate to it more, most street fights end up where? On the ground! Most people don't know how to fight in a boxing sense, with defense and precise punching...it depends what your taste is, boxing will always be KING IMO because UFC has a limited audience.And who honestly wants to watch a fight where guys are on the ground stagnant for half the fight?

It surprises me much more than when I'm expecting a big fight, and it goes 12 rounds while the two fighters just throw jabs and move in circles around the ring. It happens in UFC as well at times, but a much higher percentages of the fights end sooner in mma than in boxing. And trust me, once you start practicing bjj and wrestling, you'll understand how a triangle choke is just as exciting as a one hit ko

Because in a street fight, I could probably take most of them. Is it because I'm a good fighter? No, not necessarily. But I can fight dirty. You never know what can happen in those situations so I was pointing out that the argument is not valid.
I've noticed that Boxing fans generally give more props to MMA as a sport than vice versa. In Boxing the commentators wear suits in the UFC they wear Tap Out shirts. The sports are complete opposites. They appeal to different crowds. Like most things in general, they both take a tremendous amount of skill and hard work to be successful at.
@Benzzoop I agree. Here's the thing though. Let fighters from boxing take on boxers with boxing rules . Boxing is limited and is obviously only limited to hands. That's the point. Boxers would out box UFC because of the focus on just hands. Let some boxers enter UFC (although I would not suggest it since they are not trained for that) and some UFC attempt boxing. That would be entertaining.
I've sparred with about 4 or 5 MMA fighters. They try to come to the Boxing Gym to learn how to fight upright better, and sometimes it's just a mini MMA fun brawl matchup. They really aren't prepared for that jolt that getting hit with a fast punch gives you. I hit my buddy who does Jiujitsu, and he used to do Judo, in the chest when he tried to tackle me down and he curled up and went on his knees. It knocked the wind out of him for about 10 seconds.

I watch more K-1 than boxing now, boxing mostly for KO clips but rarely entire events. Boxing lacks the exciting finish's you can only see in MMA, watching people like Sakuraba skillfully and tactically pull off submissions on the Gracie clan. Wanderlei Silva made me a huge fan of the sport, back in his pride days how he destroyed almost everyone he faced.

@dromezz knees and kicks don't cut it. You have to get really close to knee somebody and if they can keep you away with their hands then they are not much use. Kicks are slower and easier to dodge and yeah maybe mma does have more science but for some reason most mma fighters don't show good tecnique and alot of modern day boxers don't either. I think in 5 - 10 years mma and boxing will be nothing but brawlers.

I've noticed that Boxing fans generally give more props to MMA as a sport than vice versa. In Boxing the commentators wear suits in the UFC they wear Tap Out shirts. The sports are complete opposites. They appeal to different crowds. Like most things in general, they both take a tremendous amount of skill and hard work to be successful at.

I've sparred with about 4 or 5 MMA fighters. They try to come to the Boxing Gym to learn how to fight upright better, and sometimes it's just a mini MMA fun brawl matchup. They really aren't prepared for that jolt that getting hit with a fast punch gives you. I hit my buddy who does Jiujitsu, and he used to do Judo, in the chest when he tried to tackle me down and he curled up and went on his knees. It knocked the wind out of him for about 10 seconds.

@1cwa Yep, because hes a boxer. Boxing is not bad at all, I just don't enjoy it as much because it lacks too many aspects of fighting. I watch more K-1 than boxing now, boxing mostly for KO clips but rarely entire events. Boxing lacks the exciting finish's you can only see in MMA, watching people like Sakuraba skillfully and tactically pull off submissions on the Gracie clan. Wanderlei Silva made me a huge fan of the sport, back in his pride days how he destroyed almost everyone he faced.

I just prefer to learn more disciplines than just one and become a better all-round fighter. Plus, boxing, right now is a bit meh :/ It hasn't really been 'great' since the mid 80's - mid/late 90's tbh. I even enjoy watching prelims at UFC events lol. A good boxer can defeat an mma fighter as long as they know how to keep there opponet away and stay on their feet. Boxing has more science and tecnique have you been punched in the face by someone who understand the physics and mechanics invloved in boxing?

@dromezz knees and kicks don't cut it. You have to get really close to knee somebody and if they can keep you away with their hands then they are not much use. Kicks are slower and easier to dodge and yeah maybe mma does have more science but for some reason most mma fighters don't show good tecnique and alot of modern day boxers don't either. I think in 5 - 10 years mma and boxing will be nothing but brawlers.

@dsettleascii yeah that's true you do have to watch out for more than just puches and you do have to worry about takedowns, but that's if you're taken down and if you are then you should focus on getting back up as soon as possible. Another good factor is footwork, it's vital to a good defense and the best offense is a better defense. I also accept your apology.
