Not really, Wicked is not an Official prequel to the Wizard of Oz. Don't get me wrong, I love the musical and hope to be in it one day but if you read the original book and movie, it's alot different. Even the orginal book and 1939 movie are different.

I agree with both of you, it is true that the shoes are Nessa's and not Elphie's, but then again, if the shoes have to go to someone, they should definitely go to Elphie and not "That retched little farm girl." as Elphie would put it. I really can't believe that Glinda would give Nessa's shoes to Dorothy though, that kind of bothers me.

Safuza/Forget: In the original novels (for both Oz and Wicked), Nessa WAS evil, and thus deserved what she got. That aside though--evil or not--she was Elphie's only family and therefore, despite Glinda being the one to make the shoes magical, the Slippers rightfully belong to Elphaba...NOT some farmgirl from Kansas, who just happened to drop in during a very turbulant time in the no-so merry old Land of Oz.
