Michael (She's a Maniac) Sembello on synthisizer here, he really took a step backward with that awful one hit wonder from "Flashdance." I'd rather remember him as a session player making a contribution to this great song.
Times of desegregation were tough violent painful times. We were beaten and killed and not allowed to go to the schools we were forced by the govt to go to. We had very little protection they were there to support the whites who didnt want us in their schools. We got beat up by the cops too. Those were terrible times. We got a lot of support from these artists like Stevie who sang to us, they gave stregnth to our spirit to move forward. God Bless You Stevie....
We were kids being attacked by grown men with all kinds of weapons. We were just kids trying to go to school. Our parents being torn up at those sweat shops returning home to violent conditions. Thank God for those that cared and worked hard to change the politics of those days which we still gotta go through in so many ways. God Be With Our People... Like Dr. Martin Luther King would mention... God help the least of these.... Many Blessings To All!....
I can't remember where I heard this recently but I'm glad I did , it's one of those songs that takes you back ... even if you were a white kid who grew up in a "Brady Bunch" type of family .
Oh my gosh.....do you understand how long i've been waiting to find this song? I had to watch Jungle Fever.....I listened to a little bit of the song, and I typed in the words: Stevie Wonder: Just enough for the city, and this popped up. I would say, all this work for nothing, but this song isn't "nothing" it's amazing! -Markeisha Pope
The bridge in this song is awesome....It reminds me of the Beatles or possiblyl John Lennon. This song is classic and true on many levels.....creatively and socially...
I grew up in the eighties. Only familiar with Stevie's 80s hits, I didn't have an appreciation of his greatness until I saw this film. It's been a magical ride ever since.
I love how socially Aware stevie wonder is this song can come back out today an it still would be great because we had poverty then and now. Stevie is the man!!!!
@MGrrrrrXXXX it's a cultural difference. Many europeans believe in listening to the performance and then applauding instead of screaming like idiots while the music is playing.
@MGrrrrrXXXX.They we're probaly stunned.NOBODY that heard these lyrics ever thought the same.Saw Stevie open for the stones at the spectrum in philly to a hostile crowd.Wonderlove won the crowd over and got a standing ovation from 20,000 at the end of the first song.Besides the "this is YOUR life also" feeling (gotta get up early..hardly makes a penny, etc.) people we're stunned, amazed and left wanting to hear more. The music was outstanding, new instrumental sounds, etc.Glad I am alive to hear this
Go ahead with yo bad self! Man, what a powerful musical force this man was and is. His sound and his voice feels so damn good...so damn gooood. Yes! Peace.
