  • This song is amazing, Stevie Wonder is a legend.

  • i could imagine listend this

  • this version left out the part about walkin the streets poverty stricken and trying to vote but finding no solution to the pollution.

  • Michael (She's a Maniac) Sembello on synthisizer here, he really took a step backward with that awful one hit wonder from "Flashdance." I'd rather remember him as a session player making a contribution to this great song.

  • damn stevie killed it and ive never seen a blind guy with as much swag as stevie wonder i just love how much passion he has in his voice

  • Stevie, JJ Walker called an' said he wants his hat back.

  • It's so great this footage was caught on camera for everyone to see:) I love you tube.

  • a dA LA...

  • his sister's BLACKKK!!!!!!

  • Man I wish he would have used the ARP 2600 for the bass as he did on the studio recording.

  • Who disliked this????WTF

  • After a somewhat rough 2011, i had 2 hear this joint! Stevie is always on point! Peace and come on 2012, it is your and my year!

  • anyone know where this performance is from?

  • The drummer is one bad-ass motherfucker. Great song.

  • fantastic

  • This is a total jam with toast 8) stevie be whalin! I do a funky ass dance every time I hear this in a move (American Gangster, Junglefever Ect.)

mom: Its amazing how he plays that thing... I mean he doesnt even look at it!

    Me: Really mom? Really?

  • Oh man, this was wasted on Germans?

  • the great michael sembello on guitar and keyboards

  • its sad to say this song still rings true today the government better do something soon to fix the economy or were up the creek

  • guess those rich folks in the audience never worked hard a day in there life....for the city

  • fucking funkiest piece of music ever made, what a freakin' genius this man is, unbelievable the talent he has

  • does anyone know where the video is where he takes his glasses off & his fans come in to his home???????????

  • One of Mr. Wonder's most heartfelt tune about urban life; His synthesizer work isn't bad either. Keep it up, Mr. Wonder.

  • Times of desegregation were tough violent painful times. We were beaten and killed and not allowed to go to the schools we were forced by the govt to go to. We had very little protection they were there to support the whites who didnt want us in their schools. We got beat up by the cops too. Those were terrible times. We got a lot of support from these artists like Stevie who sang to us, they gave stregnth to our spirit to move forward. God Bless You Stevie....

  • We were kids being attacked by grown men with all kinds of weapons. We were just kids trying to go to school. Our parents being torn up at those sweat shops returning home to violent conditions. Thank God for those that cared and worked hard to change the politics of those days which we still gotta go through in so many ways. God Be With Our People... Like Dr. Martin Luther King would mention... God help the least of these.... Many Blessings To All!....

  • @illinoyboy: what song are you looking for?

  • ppl think they have it hard now?smh

  • WOW REAL INSTRUMENTS !!! sorry its been a while

  • @SuperFunkDoctor oh pshaw, who needs real instruments when we have comps and who needs to have singing skill we have comps to fix that too

  • 4 people must have have a ringing in their ears....

  • If you like this song I'd like to recomend "I Wish"

  • I can't remember where I heard this recently but I'm glad I did , it's one of those songs that takes you back ... even if you were a white kid who grew up in a "Brady Bunch" type of family .

  • c'est putain de trop bon et il n'y a rien d'autre à ajouter.

  • stevie was an amazing singer and songwriter. i love this song though because its a true life song.

  • This sounds ike "Lil Freak" by Usher. Usher musta sampled this a little bit..

  • @UCantTouchMJ lol kinda does

  • although, the sound quality is not the greatest on this rendition....this is still great ...a great moment in time...

  • 4 people can still use the internet ....despite having a lobotomy.

  • Oh my gosh.....do you understand how long i've been waiting to find this song? I had to watch Jungle Fever.....I listened to a little bit of the song, and I typed in the words: Stevie Wonder: Just enough for the city, and this popped up. I would say, all this work for nothing, but this song isn't "nothing" it's amazing! -Markeisha Pope

  • By the way thank lots for the lyrics :-*

  • I love Motown music and I love and I mean lOOOOve STEVIE WONDERS IT REMINDS YOU HOW LUCKY WE ARE NOW THANK THE THE LORD!!!! :-)

  • this drummer is badass ,whats he doing nowadays

  • stevie is so fucking cool.

  • Yes incredibly ignorant, GOD bless the dumb people

  • Check out Stevie wonder when he was young. He was, and still is one of the greatest musicians that ever lived.

  • Being black was the thang to be back then,,,woo how times have changed,,,

  • @stiffLefthook haha that's gotta be the most ignorant statement on Youtube.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVIE!!

  • de arrepiar...

  • How are there dislikes?!

  • The cover by Cook Da' Books is superior.

  • How could you even CONSIDER clicking on the "dislike" button you must be without a heart and soul or even the Devil himself!! :S

  • The bridge in this song is awesome....It reminds me of the Beatles or possiblyl John Lennon. This song is classic and true on many levels.....creatively and socially...

  • I grew up in the eighties. Only familiar with Stevie's 80s hits, I didn't have an appreciation of his greatness until I saw this film. It's been a magical ride ever since.

  • I love how socially Aware stevie wonder is this song can come back out today an it still would be great because we had poverty then and now. Stevie is the man!!!!

  • My fav stevie wonder song.

  • one of the best singers ever

  • Comment removed

  • @MGrrrrrXXXX it's a cultural difference. Many europeans believe in listening to the performance and then applauding instead of screaming like idiots while the music is playing.

  • @MGrrrrrXXXX.They we're probaly stunned.NOBODY that heard these lyrics ever thought the same.Saw Stevie open for the stones at the spectrum in philly to a hostile crowd.Wonderlove won the crowd over and got a standing ovation from 20,000 at the end of the first song.Besides the "this is YOUR life also" feeling (gotta get up early..hardly makes a penny, etc.) people we're stunned, amazed and left wanting to hear more. The music was outstanding, new instrumental sounds, etc.Glad I am alive to hear this

  • @MGrrrrrXXXX . I get the sense that you r a big SW fan. U want everybody to be screaming but it's not that kinda crowd. Believe me ...they enjoyed!!

  • @MGrrrrrXXXX it's not like he was going to see their reactions.

  • @MGrrrrrXXXX They are German, so thats why they have no emotion. This is an AMAZING live version.

  • The two people who hit "dislike" did it by accident. Cut them some slack. Great tune.

  • How the hell can you sit still next to a performance like that it's stevie wonder man liven the fuck up

  • To All these Young dudes and dudettes THIS IS SWAG!

  • Go ahead with yo bad self! Man, what a powerful musical force this man was and is. His sound and his voice feels so damn good...so damn gooood. Yes! Peace.

  • Man this is good stuff

  • are'nt we all?

  • WOW!!!!!!!! Listening to this song is brain food.

  • how can you dislike this ,,, if you do u must be racist

  • legendary

  • Orange Crush amps! good!

  • Love that little brassy sound from the ARP 2600 in between the verses...

  • 2 people must have been "deaf" to dislike this song

  • Early Stevie => PERFECTION ... I wonder if he EVER gonna record only Piano+Voice album ? something like Nebraska (by Bruce Springsteen).

  • THis screams 1974 LOVE IT!!

  • Incredible

  • I love this song

  • As a Detroiter, I have to ask. Is there ANYTHING Stevie ever did that was bad?!?!?

  • god look wat pop has gone to. from there to now.veeeery sharp decline in quality.

  • The hook was also use by the Troop/Levert singing around the burning trash can in New Jack City.

  • =))))))))))))))))!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whoa is that HD the other vid is grainy

  • I like this version better than the one on the album. I was disappointed to find out that cool synth lick during the verses that's on this version is missing on the studio version.

  • its on there but its a lot less prominent in the mix.

  • @Kohntarkosz Hmmm which lick is it cause I hear them all on the album version. Then again its live and anything goes when its live!

  • @617AV86892:hey man, think a little and use your brain!Maybe Stevie didn`t dedicate the whole song/verses to the black community, but left some space for the other working poor!See his big heart? He´s an amazing brilliant musician and songwriter.Saw him 3 days ago in Berlin. One of the best!

  • @Ralphsintown Hey Ralphie Boy like a true bleeding heart liberal your reading way way to much into my comment. It is one of my favorite songs from my youth, I still get a laugh out of that verse...and the one on the extended where the guy gets of the Bus into NY City and within 2 minutes gets conned into holding and he is arrested for carrying drugs ! Now ralph cant we get along !

  • Jesus, Allah, Mother of Mary, Jah, Buddha, Haile Salassie, Jedi, Judah, Hare Krishna, Shiva all of them, they bless you Stevie, God damn bless you and bless you to Fritz for the upload.

  • Fuck he is so good.

    What a voice

  • This is the epitome of funky, from Stevie's keyboards and threads to the drummer and the back-up singers.

  • No one, but no one GROOVES like Stevie!!! Amazing!!!

  • LOVE Stevie! Man, is there any better R&B artist? I say: "Michael Jackson Who???"

    Stevie is the man!

  • thats what stevie never would say...cause he's smart!

  • I'd sell my soul to the devil for this man's talent.

  • Why does stevie never do his uber manly growl whenevr he sings this live? Perhaps its sumthing thats hard for him to do consistently..

  • @KMatteKudasaiC I imagine it's quite a strain on his voice these days. He struggled to hit high notes when I saw him in 2008 so the other end of the scale might be the same.

  • this shit is classic

  • Absolutely AWESOME!!! Ollie Brown was a helluva drummer and percussionist....Stevie is one of the all-time greats....so good

  • The white dude in the band in Michael Sembello

  • WAHOOO! Stevie, omfg! TUNAGE!

  • Thanks uploader, star you are!

    Wahoooooooooooo!

  • This is one of the best songs he's written. "Innervisions" is a masterpiece and ifn' it ain't in your record collection you are absolutely nowhere daddy-o.

  • super fantastic times ten . .

  • Dig the white dude with the groovy hair playing the keyboard

  • that white dude with the groovy hair is micheal sembello...he would later write and record the song "maniac" which was featured in "flashdance"

  • @doncorleon818 he looks uninterested.....lol

  • @doncorleon818 that white guy is michael sembello who had hit in the 80s manic from flashdance soundtrack

  • @doncorleon818 Thats Stevie!

  • @doncorleon818 That's Michael Sembello. He wrote Maniac for Flashdance, and worked with not only Stevie Wonder but also Streisand, Michael Jackson, Donna Summer, Diana Ross and The Temptations.

  • @doncorleon818 haha YEAH. I was thinking the same thing. He looks like he's stoned out of his mind. That dude's cool. I just saw Stevie at Bonnaroo and I was hoping that dude would be with him still, but he wasn't.

  • @doncorleon818 Thats Michael Sembello One of The Best Guitarist who Ever Lived

  • Thats Michael Sembello One of The Best Guitarist who Ever Lived

  • @doncorleon818 i think that white guy is michael sembello. later on he made the song maniac from flashdance.

  • @doncorleon818 you don't understand how happy us white lookin folk would be if could play in Soul ensembles. oh man i would cry joyfully if i could play bass in a soul/R&b band

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 Do it anyway! Rhythm knows no color.

  • @doncorleon818

    he looks bored.

  • @Entiestess i'm pretty sure he didn't know that...

  • @doncorleon818 that's Michael Sembello, who did the song Maniac from Flashdance.

  • @doncorleon818

If I am not mistaken, that is Michael Sembello. He's listed as co-composer of Stevie's "Saturn" and worked with Michael Jackson, Stanley Clarke, Chaka Kahn, amongst others. He joined Stevie's band at age 20 - his first professional gig!

  • Who aint had it hard growin up a bit, wow, this tune is AMAZING, thx Stevie, and uploader:)

  • :') he makes me cry,

    is wonderful (: xxx

  • Funky x

  • Just enough for the city!! Classic!

  • SWEEeet !!! :} ;1

  • Ha! some people are hard to please! :P

  • @dmrfunk son shit ain't changed from before and to this day.but Stevie rules.

  • Playing with the "Oracle" many of those memebers who had no.1 hits and careers in their own right in Stevie's great band "WONDERLOVE" that night was Micheal Sembello, Ray Parker Jr. Angela Winbush, Deneice Williams, Minnie Ripperton, Ollie Woodson. One hell of band ain't it !!!!

  • Great video but the female back up singers are annoying

  • That is Angela Winbush, Denice Williams and the late great Minnie Ripperton along with many of those people on that stage that night had recording careers they sound great.

  • I've heard of the name Angela Winbush but I don't know what she looks like. But I do know what Ripperton look like and what Denise Willams look like and these two are not on the stage singing with Stevie on this video. These women sound horrible and are again annoying and add nothing to the song.Maybe they were having a bad night?

  • some people are hard to please. :P

  • some people are f@#%*in idiots....those women have great voices...the only complaint I have is the mix....I'd like more bass but that's just because i play bass.

  • @TheNewsoul2 left to right: Deniece Williams, Angela Winbush, and Syreeta Wright

  • thanks for the info and the Drummer who is bashing those skins is Ollie Brown (breakin soundtrack)

  • @mookindahouse Actually, Syreeta is in the middle. I don't know who the lady on the right is.

  • @mookindahouse Nope. They're Deniece Williams, Lani Groves, Shirley Brewer

  • Brilliant. He feels the song, you can tell it comes deep. Love love love his work.

  • My fave Stevie song. The lyrics and vocals are so gritty.....classic!

  • I lve tina turner's version

  • I hope you hear inside my voice of sorrow, and that it motivates you to make a better tomorrow. This place is cruel, no where could be much colder. If we don't change, the world will soon be over. Living just enough...stop giving just enough for the city!

  • We're working on this song at music in school.. It's great!

  • just think that is michael sam bello on keys another famous person in the group this is a amazing song stevie wonder rocks
