You can cut down on the number of clips you use (and the weight) by doubling-up on the locks.

Twist one, hold it while you twist the one next to it, then use one clip for both.

When I first started I sometimes used mini black rubberbands to hold 4 together. **But, be careful not to *tug* them off.

My hair is long enough now that I twist a few locks (@ 6) then use another lock as a "tie" looped snugly aroung them to hold near my scalp (the area i'm focused on neatening).

My brother is starting to dread his hair too and they say it takes like from 1 month to 12 months for your hair to completly turn to dreads. untill then you cant wash.

If that's what your brother has been advised he should probably shave his head now, lol, and sac his loctitian. When you first install your locs you probably shouldnt wash them for up to 4 weeks but in that time you can scalp cleanse or some people do a very light wash with a net or cap on to keep the loc formation. After 4-6 weeks your locs should be able to handle a decent wash but may need retwisiting unless you are latching or started from braids.

Wow, your locs are fabulous and good on you for doing them yourself. I also have locs and notice you use a lot of clips, do you prefer to do this? As you can achieve the same result with less by pinning the clip further down the loc then you can slide 3 to 4locs in the clasp once twisted. This may also speed up the process for you. Just a suggestion hope u dont mind. D
