  • that totally sucks, they don't have the album ufo1 on itunes!

    bullshit.

  • @nazzare79, agree with you

  • Thank you ...wonderful song!!!

  • grandios!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have to admit, I prefer Uriah heep version than this one...anyway the original version is written by Fred Hellerman and Fran Minkoff

  • impossible single better than Byron!!!

    impossible!!!

  • danke schön wunderbarer song

  • Melinda. The song is really good performed

And that means a lot, from me.

  • Not many singers can pull of a song like this. Mogg is excellent.

  • I love UFO and this version!

  • Is this really UFO origin? I thought this was Uriah Heep's

  • So great!!!!!

  • Uriah Heep has a beautiful cover of this song here's the link take a look!

  • Heeps version is far superior - but tbh they sound completely different so really could be 2 different songs - I get a bit of Vanilla Fudge sound in this version but thats just me !

A good version though all the same

  • uhm.. different

  • I love the original, but...

  • So cool of you to upload these old UFO tunes. UFO are one of the most underrated bands that I can think of...which confuses the SHIT outta me because they ROCK and have been around for fucking EVER!

  • I bought a two CD collection of Uriah Heep's best songs to get the original, they sound very close, and both are excellent

  • awsome song but heep did it betterr

  • This is the premium version over all others.... however I wish

Neko Case could sometime duet with Phil and sing Melinda's part.

  • @seaperu1 Uriah's has a more UNPLUGGED feel to it, and I like how softly it starts, and the songs tend to build up to a climax

  • Best ANTI WAR SONG ever!!

  • esta es la mejor version , me trae grandes recuerdos gran grupo ufo

  • Hammer, wie lang habe ich das gesucht.

  • I Like UFO but Uriah Heep's version has much more emotion

  • this version is better!!!!

  • thanxs I LOVE this song

  • had to click this since my names melinda not many songs with my name

  • @BabyCakes1388 Same reason I discovered this song =D

  • @mindysioux13 ditto.. my name's Melinda haha :)

  • Heep does this song best. It's a ballad, not some funk inspired pop song.

  • @Starriderrob Heeps version is more sad...this one is harder, but both are sensational!!!

  • @AnaDiLupis i agree with you dude!!! both version rock!!!

    !!!

  • @AnaDiLupis is becouse this song is meant to be sad

  • Take a look at my generation. There you will find trains, the Finnish army, the beautiful scenery of Finland, folk music, sailing ship Sedov, martial arts, sports, art exhibitions, animals, animation, a lot of Super 8 films and other interesting stuff!

  • I have been looking for this song forever, thanx

  • it is the best version.

    ju ef o

  • Nice version. I personally prefer Uriah Heep for this one.

  • david Byron so much feeling

  • I had never heard this version before. Excellent. I am a fan of the Uriah Heep version, but I suspect that I will grow to prefer UFO's.

    Thanks for uploading phebz42g

  • @ahorwood I won't. David puts much more feeling into this than Phil. I like UFO, though. I also like Uriah Heep's arrangement better, as it is more dramatic

  • A great tune...always chokes me up.....thanks

  • Einfach nur geile Mucke,Harald51 Viersen

  • No, this version totally destroyes the melancholy of the song. The sad theme get's ruined and the message isn't transported anymore. It deserves no more then acoustic guitar or piano.

  • @dennomanno

Sorry, I don't think so at all.

  • @Floriansamsel I agree with you Floriansamsel.

  • i think the very best version is from velvett fogg...

  • eckerfckoelnfan@t-online.de

  • you're the fuckin man, dude!! someone needs to educate this punks about real music and you're doing a great job. do you have any idea where i can get this record?

  • die beste unbekannte

  • Ever seen a grown man cry? I've seen it - to this song. Well he had his own sad story to it, but even without it, it still goes under the skin.

    Thank you for posting it!

  • de quien es la version original? de UFO o de URIAH HEEP, esta es la primera vez que escucho esta version y me gusto, tanto igual que la de Uriah, pero diganme quien la compuso???

  • i didn`t that also ufo plays this song--great

  • Who wrote this and when did it first come out?

  • uriah heep much better version of this one

  • ...hey you're right this is surely the best version, love it since I first heard it in 1970!! Thank you for reminding me to such an awesome song... :-)

  • my father played this on his guitar.... I MISS YOU DAD!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, it's my favourite version too =)

  • @dalite999 not a patch on u/heap

  • @dalite999 Taking nothing away from UFO, but IMO, no one can replace Byron on vocals.

  • @dalite999 Its crap compared to the original by Uriah Heep.

  • @dalite999 esta es la mejor version

  • my favourite version of this song....

  • @Baltrick me too

  • beauty version, so different from the uriah heep's both are great tough!

  • I first herd this song in 1980 and loved it...It's o great to hear it again....Tractorlad1 you are blessed to have seen UO.......

  • great

  • ô.O my name is melinda ô.O

  • did this come out before Velvet foggs version?

  • No the song is definitively from Velvet fogg. Uriah Heep and UFO made their own versions in 1970

  • I really had a feeling that was the case.

    =) Thanks.

  • FYI Velvet Fogg's version was a cover as well. It's actually a folk song done by The Weavers around 1960. Written by Fred Hellerman and Fran Minkoff.

Many have covered the song such as Harry Belafonte, Judy Collins, Mama Cass, Kenny Rankin, Tim Rose, Bobbie Gentry as well as Velvet Fogg, Uriah Heep and UFO.

  • if you knew as much about mathematics or chemistry, oh, what this world would be

  • original version from UFO. thanks

  • i saw ufo at leeds in 1980 they were really good . i saw gary moore at leeds in april he was rubbish all he did all night was tell fans to fuck off the man is a twat

  • okay ...not bad ...but Uriah Heep !!!!!!!

  • Sorry that should be the Big3..with Mama Cass Elliot on vocals..its on Youtube

  • Uriah Heeps version is the best by far, more emotion in David Byrons singing.

  • This song is as good as Uriah's one. Just awesome. Thanks for uploading.

I'm so glad people enjoy it! I could post all the songs on that album if you wanted.. let me know.

  • Thank you phebz42g. In 1983 I was a Marine in Beirut, Lebanon. I would jog around the compound with this cassette in my walkman. Wow.

  • real uriah heep ballad

  • No, Uriah Heep is my favorite band and I wish they had written this song, but it's a folk song written by the Weavers.

  • tenia años de no escuchar esta hermosa cancion buena por eso.

  • =) a song with my name in it..Love it!!

  • great vocals

  • stimmt ... die gab es früher ja auch ,

    längst vergessen ;-)

  • lol im ashamed of my name from now one

    xox melinda.

  • Sounds close to the LP version, but is a little different. What ie this version taken from? Early demo?

  • Many TKS

  • It was on Uriah Heep's "Very 'eavy, very humple" album(1970)

  • No by "VELVETT FOGG" in 68'

  • I think it was firstly recorded by Velvett fogg in 1968

  • The Halifax Three recorded a version in 1964

    Jim

  • I had a version of this in the 60s. The track started with a childlike voice singing to her mother as if asking questions. Anyone know the Artist ?.

  • Written by Malvina Reynolds? Her follow up to What Have They Done to the Rain. TV show accompanied by pictures of H Bombs and nuclear fall-out.

    Rivetting stuff.

  • please please help did black sabbath do a version of the track, i know tony iommi was with the band who did the original before heep

    think they called velvet fog

  • actually. if im not mistaken which i doubt. Tim Rose was the one who actually wrote this. if im wrong please let me know who really did.

  • This song was written by Fred Hellerman and Fran Minkoff. Fred was a member of the 50's folk group the Weavers, along with Pete Seeger. I think Harry Belafonte recorded it first in the early 60's. I have it also by Wendy Huber and Bobbie Gentry.

  • is this mogg on voice

  • Yes it is!

  • Fantastic, got this song on a very old LP of UFO from 1971 and of corse from Heep. TNX.

  • I didn't think i would ever hear this again.

    Thank you.

  • God, its good to know other people like this version! Sorry about the bland video, i'm not too sure if UFO made a video for it, it seems to be a rare version so I'm guessing they didn't!

  • I love it since my youth. Today I sing it by myself with all my heart. Thank you for my prefererd version.
