Did Lewis have a chance if the fight went on? Not likely;
Does Lewis have one of the weakest chin for a heavyweight champ? Yes;
To sum up, Lewis had physical advantage over most of his opponents. He was talented but if he was smaller, he would probably never had the success he did.

@LastSeraphim I think his greatest weakness was his mind - he would come into some fights unprepared because he took his opponents to lightly. It cost him twice, once against McCall here, and again against Rhathman, and it almost cost him against Vitali Klitschko.
lewis usually had big advantages over other boxers, height reach weight, there's not much between these two, lennox possibly met his match in mcall, even the rematch was interesting, but not in mcalls favour, lennox was a great champion, and a great sportsmen, mcall was just a beast with no fear or feeling of pain, lazy lennox learned from his only two losses, and he proved he learned from mistakes as he rematched and beat the only two people that beat him,
McCall has hardly been seen in public since he entered a drugs rehabilitation clinic in North Carolina last Autumn to fight cocaine and marijuana problems.
When he did surface, he was promptly arrested for slinging a Christmas tree across a hotel foyer in Nashville.
His erratic behaviour means no-one is quite sure what shape or frame of mind he'll be in when he turns up to meet Lewis next month.
Mike Tyson - Before we encroach this subject, lets rewind to 1998 and a statement by Emmanuel Steward about the quality of Lennox Lewis's opposition-"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight,"
Mike Tyson admitted he was ALSO a washed up drug addict in 2002!
Lewis was lucky the ref stopped it, he was all over the place. What a boring fighter! He set back heavy-weight boxing ten years at least. I remember watching this live when I was in an Irish bar in Philadelphia, oh how we danced!!!
@kev1236543 he was stunned by the knock'down and he did look off balance, but he was up before the 8 count with his guard up, as the champion he should get the benifit of the doubt to fight on or not, the stoppage was premature, but mcall could well of capitalized and won if allowed to continue, but it should have been allowed to go on, to be honest,
mccall ...jaw like titanium..best right hand in the business...fuckin fruit loop ..still fighting still knockin em out.......never been down...long live the atomic bull!!
That was a bullshit stoppage from the ref who was probably paid off by Don King. Lennox got up and showed he was ready with gloves near his face after the 8 count. When Don King is around you can always expect some bullshit like this... Just like the bullshit draw Lewis got against Holyfield.
@0Shane13 who did tyson beat? lennox beat the guys tyson wouldent fight tommy morrison ray mercer and lewis beat evander holyfield twice who beat the shit out of tyson so yeah he's better than mike
@0Shane13 Second round knockout? Second round knockout? this makes it abundantly clear that Tyson was much better than Lewis early in his clear. This loss exposed Lewis, If Oliver Mccall knocked him out in the 2nd round then Tyson would have ate him up, ate him up in round 1, 1st minute. STFU!
@0Shane13 it doesent matter holyfield was the champ your a goon....anybody who knows boxing knows that tyson isent anything he's over glorified for his knockouts over bums....lewis beat david tua and shannon briggs who would of fucked up tyson also....i love mike tyson that saying i think he was a beast but matched up against the best he isen't near the top he's not even one of the top 10 heavyweights of all time what makes u think tyson over lewis? his win over peter mcneely?
traded left hooks, mccall done better followed by a right hand trade lewis was always gonna lose cause he was off balance by the hook. ref made the right call lewis was wobbling everywhere however he might have been able to clinch due to his length and weight
The rematches won by Lennox were pissoff. mcCall not fighting at all and crying in the ring. Rehman already lost many matches. The two were not great fighters. Lennox winning over them is not a great thing. Just watch Ali, Foreman, Holyfield and Tyson in action. Seeing Lennox as great just because he KO'd Tyson is not good.
Lennox had the advantage of height and long reach, but he is not tough- the 2 times he lost, he lost with only one punch. Foreman, Holyfield, Tyson are not like that, they are real tough. Lennox defeated tyson, when tyson was psychologically down. Tyson before going to jail was very swift in defence, but we have seen a SLOW Tyson against Holy and Lennox.
Lennox is a true great, and a real gent. To come back and beat the only two guys who ever beat him, and to fight all the best guys in the world. They all make excuses about not being at their peak or whatever, but if thats even true its their problem....not for Lennox to worry about. He did all that could be asked of him by beating them all.
To the young turk you tube comment sniffers...the atomic bull reigns supreme..everyone ducked henry akinwande and oliver mccall knocked him out at 36 years of age..never been wobbled..never been knocked down...still fighting today..for one last glory shot at immortality...titanium chin..if he wasnt lazy and more disciplined..he would have been one of the worlds best...oliver mccall i SALUTE you!!!!
@ELAREH1 Everyone ducked Akinwande? In 1997 Akinwande stepped down as WBO Champion and relinquished the belt so he could fight Lennox Lewis. They were both the same age and going into the fight Akinwande was undefeated. Lewis fought Akinwande at the height of Akinwande's career but Akinwande spent the fight clinching and running away.
How good is Lewis? I really don't know... On paper he looks like one of the best, having beaten the likes of Tyson, Holyfield, Tucker, Bruno, Ruddock, Tua, Botha, and Klitschko, being beaten only twice; both times later being avenged. And yet... why did he lose to clearly inferior opponents? Why did he run from a Klitschko rematch? And why did he wait so long to face Tyson and Holyfield? Yes, Lewis is great, but is he a top 5, top 10, or top 20? Take your pick... For myself, I just don't know...
@93stormer He lost to Rahman & McCall because he got lazy & complacent.
He didn't have the rematch with Klitschko because the first fight proved his time was coming to an end and he didn't want to ruin his legacy by fighting on past his best.
Don King refused to let Tyson fight Lewis until 2002. Lewis had beaten so many of King's fighters and been on top so long that King never thought Tyson ready. The only reason the fight happened in the end was because Tyson needed the money.
@93stormer Lewis was going to fight Holyfield in 1992 but Holyfield lost to Bowe and retired. Lewis was going to fight Holyfield in 1994 but Holyfield lost to Moorer and retired again. Then Lewis lost to McCall. Both had to fight their way back to the top. Tyson turned to Holyfield cause King thought he would be easier opposition than Lewis but Holyfield beat him twice, avenged his loss to Moorer and finally made it to the scheduled fight with Lewis.
as he admitted after his loss to McBride: 'My career has been over since 1990. After I got out of jail, I beat guys because they were scared.'
Once Tyson was finished as an elite fighter, there was always someone willing to put up millions to get him in a ring. I hate the boxing game. That guy [I used to be] in 1985, 1986 - I don't know that guy any more.
lewis is the worst fighter that had all the tools he had i ever seen. he was huge long reach, good jab, power. if he had a chin or a heart he would have been the greatest. i didnt like him didnt buy his act. got a gift with botht he mercer and klitscho fights
@Pooledogg TYson as a 21 yr old beats lewis because lewis had a marshmellow chin and would have been ko'd 3 more times if lewis had the guts to fight top contenders before his 3rd year as a pro.He turned pro in 89 and hid from contention till 93 when he fought a dying ruddock already plastered and finished by tysons brutal killing of him.Your imagination is warped if you think lewis would beat tyson of 21 yrs old the same way he beat a ghost and totally shot tyson.
@Pooledogg Lewis was ko'd twice by 2 guys not known for their power.Lewis beat them in a rematch. My point is as a first fight, tyson would surely at 21 yrs old, discombobulate lewis because lewis never faced anyone with that much speed and power at the same time.Lewis got his brain rattled when two mediocre guys ,not one but 2 at 6 yrs apart during lewis prime, landed clean shots early ,finished lewis off.
@Pooledogg Tyson at 21 was a perpetual motion natural force and thru hindsite, based on lewis two kod times and tysons 9 title defenses, not losing more then 2 rounds in the entire tenure of his peak while fighting guys who would certainly and capably beat Mccall and rahman ,certainly lewis would have not been able to figure out tyson in time before tyson finished him off as two extremely lessor opponenets did already to lewis.Use hindsite.
@fadethetrade Do you mean hindsight? Lewis peaked at a different time to Tyson. Lewis was at his best around 34-38 years old. I could not see Tyson ever beating a Klitschko.
@Pooledogg Thanks for correcting my poor spelling skills.Yes,hindsight.In hindsight, the way tyson was utilizing the amazing defensive first posture,(which you miscalculated when he was 21) he would beat klitchko by unanimous decision as he did bonecrusher smith who was as good if not a little better then both klitchkos at that time.Klitshckos style of jab and throwing the big right,as lewis did, would both be nullified .You forgot or perhaps were a little too young at that time frome 86-88.
@Pooledogg The styles of fighters, even tall fighters, looking to jab then throw the right hand and continue to try to set their own pace, was suicide vs, the 87-88 tyson.Douglas was able to because tyson focus was gone before that fight. It took a foreman or ali type to stop that tyson of 21.His muscle fiber twitching was just too fast and too much for "set their pace" type fighters like klitchko or lewis to handle, unless they decide to fight a survival fight and hope to get a late fight rally.
@Pooledogg AGain, use hindsite. How lewis got ko'd twice, the way those guys ko'd him was a black eye in lewis' career because he showed extreme vulnerability when faced with an agressive approach and facing an early knockdown. He couldn't get up to win the fight or at least survive it. He needed a rematch.Tyson at 21 accelerated in that type of attack and early ko.Lewis getting ko'd by mccall and rahman played right into a 21 yr old tysons strength with vulnerable fighters.Use hindsite.
For seven weeks before Friday night's Oliver McCall-Lennox Lewis spectacle, HBO Sports had serious doubts about McCall's state of mental health.
Yet in describing McCall as ''despondent'' enough to drink whisky after the original Jan. 11 fight date was moved to Feb. 7, King said, ''He was ready to fight.''
BOXING: A Dream Destroyed; Bowe Won Championships, but He Lost His Family
By TIMOTHY W. SMITH
Published: July 05, 1998
It was really hard. Not to make any excuses, but I was rather sluggish during the Olympics
Soon after Brenda's death, Bowe's brother, Henry, was diagnosed HIV-positive. He later died from Aids-related illnesses. 'It was hard to go to the Olympics with what was happening. There was really no one I could speak with. So I just tried to deal with it the best I could
Lewis was too cocky, that was his only downfall, got knocked down not taking the fighters seriously enough. But damn that is one of the worst calls I have ever seen calling that fight.
lol this is a lucky punch tho. lewis moved his head exactly into his right hand, while mccal had his eyes closed. great KO tho. mccall was underrated. he gave tyson trouble during sparring sessions
McCall is a piece of iron He's so damn tough...Lewis appeared to NOT be ready to continue He was stumbling over himself....He got his ass kicked...Simple
Could you imagine if Tyson had never went to prison in 91, he would have fought Lewis in 92, 93 or 94, and imo would have destroyed him. Same goes for Evander Holyfield. Instead Mike Tyson comes out of jail in 96, having not trained for 3 years. He lost three of what could have been great years for him in the early nineties.
@gregm20072007 mike tyson never would beat evander holyfield, styles make fights, prime tyson might well ko lewis in the first fight, because tyson got great combinations and lewis did not have great chin, but evander holyfield? never, evander beats tyson always, of course prime tyson would be more competent, but still evander wins by decision.
@combatesdeboxeo I disagree, look at the first holyfield fight, tyson wasn't that far behind on points, and the tyson of the 80's was twice the fighter that fought holyfield in 96, both physically and mentally, holyfield would not be able to live with a prime tyson imo. He was a fucking wrecking machine
@gregm20072007 THE MYTHICAL PRIME TYSON NEVER FACED A FIGHTER IN THE LEVEL OF EVANDER, HE DESTROYED BUMS LIKE BERBICK IN HIS 30S, A FORMER LHW SPINKS IN HIS 30S, SHOT LARRY HOLMES, TONY TUCKER(NOT A GREAT THING), TYSON DID LOOK BETTER THAN HE WAS REALLY BECAUSE HE FACED AVERAGE FIGHTERS. EVANDER BEATS TYSON ALWAYS, MY OPINION
yes he did, it is because i think that foreman, liston and even tyson would ko lewis in the first match, but lewis was great in a rematch, he was focused and careful, of course lewis could be defeated by average fighters, (like mccall and rahman)
@Megadeth72 i would not put my money on him against several legends, but still in his best night he could well beat anyone as well. he was hot and cold, probably he would be defeated by ali, holmes, he would
be destroyed by joe louis, foreman and tyson in the first match, marciano and frazier would have his chance. but lewis would have chance to beat anyone in a rematch,of course he would not be undefeated in any era ,but probably he would avenge his defeats.
Tyson faced them and HE DESTROYED THEM, that was ORIGINAL TYSON. Evander had NO CHANCE against Tyson in his prime.
M. Frazier, Ribalta, Berbick, Pinklon Thomas, Bruno, Spinks, Larry Holmes, Ruddock, Stewart etc. He knocked them all. Even Buster Douglas ( he was down for 13 sec in round 8 ).
@TSOKES . yes, he destroyed bums and it proves what? the typical words of a blind tyson fanboy, sorry but you have 0 credibility.and buster douglas destroyed tyson.who evander holyfield raped . prime holyfield beats prime tyson always. "tyson in his prime the best hw ever" hehehe it is very funny, prime ali would expose tyson badly, probably even prime holmes would beat prime tyson(if tucker, smith or tillis survived against tyson, holmes would do it much better).
@TSOKES actually i am not a hater, i like tyson, checks my tribute on him, i hope you like it. simply i hate the blind fans, tyson in his best night would be dangerous for anyone in the history, but you said that he is the best ever basing on he destroyed a bunch of bums, a lhw or a shot larry holmes, it is pure nonsense, it is all i said.
@TSOKES george foreman in his prime would knock tyson out(clean ko, not tko) probably in 3-4 rounds, prime liston would demolish tyson as well. joe louis would have great chance to destroy tyson in a rematch if they fought 2 times. even jack jonhson could well frustrate tyson in the clinch like smith did. if rocky marciano increments his weight to 210 pounds(he could do it because he was a big boned guy). i am pretty sure , he would ko tyson. even vitali klitschko would have chance to beat tyson
Well hypothetically Im telling you that Iron Mike would' knock them out in first round ( Big George, Ali, Louis, Smokin Joe, Rocky, Sonny Bear Liston etc ), is that ok? Ur opinion, my opinion. We will disagree for 100 years, so... leave it.
He EARNED the nickname "Iron" Mike Tyson, no1 else had that nickname in the history of boxing.
LAST RUN OF THE ATOMIC BULL....i hope he gets a shot ..olivers a legend ..tysons sparring partner never went down once...never knocked down in any fight as of today..he and chuvalo are the worlds best chins ...pity drugs ruined him...a genetic freak!!!
i dont knock lewis at all but realistically he became a well rouned boxer late in his career if he would have really beat klitchsko he PROBABLY could have been put with the greats but he retired like a pussy
Yeah your probably right there he didnt have a glass jaw,he certainly fought tyson at the right time and would of been found out alot sooner had he fought tyson when tyson was hungry, how anyone could take his fight with tyson seriously when tyson wieghed 18lbs heavier than his natural fighting wieght of 215-220 max.Theres no way tyson had got himself in shape.Oliver mc'call should of been routine defence, and the same with rahman,so i will always question lewis's credability.
@frankieflem, Lewis' jaw wasn't made of the iron stuff, granted, but I don't think you can say he had a glass one. McCall caught him with a good'un, & history shows that if anyone gets hit with the right punch, they can lose. Rahman? Well Lewis was clearly out of shape and didn't take it seriously. But there aren't many Heavyweights in history who fought more big punchers than Lewis; Tua, Ruddock, Tyson, Briggs, Bruno, V. Klitschko etc and he survived them. Not a great jaw, but not glass either.
I shocked like everybody else that Lennox Lewis loss but I believe the loss was the best thing for Lennox Lewis in the sense that it made him stronger and better. Oliver McCall had tremendous potential but unfortunately had some demons he needed to fight off first and foremost and it was those demons that ultimately defeated him in the end.
@QUeensNYCUSA Brits get very cocky when they are doing well but they get humbled very easily, hence the Revolutionary War when we gave them the 1-2 combo to the point of the chin.
@blackoil911 Nice try. Lewis didn't "fuck up McCall so bad in the rematch that he cried". He had drug problems and mental disorders which is why he cried.
@shanahan142008 i can see fear and he was rocked;.... nice try tho u can keep those druggie problems as a coverup to urself hahahah dont matter all i know is he cried in the ring after getting iti from lewis
and this was the most unconvincing KO ever man, are you serious? your using this as an example when comparing to those names you mentioned? Wow come on now. Lewis one of the BEST EVER.
Lewis beat alot of over the hill fighters. Hes still a great fighter and he did hes job very well. Ali, Tyson, Foreman, Holyfield and Bowe would never got KOd like Lewis did against Rahman and McCall. You never saw those guys knocked out like that. Lewis is not underrated
Im sure Waldimir Klichtsco would have no problem beating Lewis. Seeing as he holds more belts than Lewis could only WISH he could had carried and accomplished.
Lewis was a faggot scared cherry picker. He picked all his fights and avoided all the top contenders. And when he lost he IMMEDIATELY demanded a rematch. But when he beats someone and they want a rematch stuck up faggot Lewis wouldn't grant it. Bottom line your boys a house nigger fraud. Keep suckin his dick for not.
i dont think any of Klitchtsco opponents cried in a rematch lmao..... lewis made oliver cry in fear and fucked his mind so bad he couldnt do it.... your crazy buddy..... sure tyson had the power to kill a man with his hands but lewis had more!!!!! lewis is fucking crazy buddy omg i cant believe u dont believe me...... have u seen this guy fight lmao sorry man if u dont agree with me u have surely strong opinions i guess i respect that but i know ali was better but still...
Lewis didnt grant Vatili a rematch cuz Lewis was clearly scared of him and thats what he gets for underestimating people. And anyone that watched that fight can see CLEAR as day it was fixed. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of his fights were fixed i mean come on, he is a good house nigger now and he gets rewarded like that for suckin the higher ups dicks like the good tool little nigger he is.
bottom line, Lewis is a fraud and a cherry picker. Get over it now.
@CUTWEST Lewis beat everybody worth fighting. Lewis destroyed Tyson and they were both the same age. the best two heavy weights of that period were Lewis and Holyfield and Tyson lost to both of them.
The fact that Lewis retired once Vitali earned his mandatory rematch speak for itself. He was scared of him because he knew after that fight that Vitali was the better boxer. That fight was clearly fixed. But Lennox along with Haye are your typical British house niggers so they could get away with shit like that from bias judges.
i mean hell, this is the guy that got stripped of his WBA title cuz he "refused"....(more like scared shit) to fight John Ruiz. Like i said, Cherry picker like floyd
@OHNSTAD85 Bowe got dropped 2 or 3 times by Golota (lost both fights if not for the DQ's), and then Lewis smashed Golota to bits in less than a round in his next fight. A prime Ali was dropped by Henry Cooper who would probably be a Super Middle or a Light Heavy if he was around today!! Prime Tyson was beat by Buster Douglas. Lewis took some of Vitalis best punches clean. Anyone can get KO'd. Nobody is untouchable
@OHNSTAD85 true...the thing i liked about lewis tho..and I used to dislike him..is he came back and beat the fighters he lost too. he didnt go to pieces he went got in shape and came back better....very resilient
lewis also if you watch him in this stage of his career fought wth a horrible stance for his type of body..his jaw is up and he looks flimsy...so when these big dudes hit him he went to pieces
what are u on about. ali got hammered by loads of people and put on the deck. henry cooper for one! it was only the fact that his corner decided they needed to cut his glove off to buy him time that he survived. tyson was knocked out by lewis! and the reason they didnt fight earlier was because tyson refused to fight him, and gave up the belt when lewis was number one contender, as did bowe. prob cus they new they would lose
@OHNSTAD85 You can't get knocked out by two bums and never beat a great fighter in his prime, and then say you're underrated.
You can do one or the other. You can win all your fights even if competition isn't great. You can lose fights if you have wins over greats in there too. Not both.
@OHNSTAD85 Actually tyson got knocked out exactly like that against Douglas and Lewis :) Foreman did against Ali, and Holyfield did against Bowe. Basically all similar TKO's other than Ali's KO of Foreman. And Lewis TKO'd Bowe in the Olympics - only mentioning it since Bowe ducked him in the pros.
@MandoGuerrero2 Lewis was knocked out with one songle punch! Tyson was knocket out by a four puch combination by 110 KG Buster Douglas. Foreman by a combinaton of 5-6 punces and Holyfield by a flurry. One punch by Rahman and one puch by Mccall.
@OHNSTAD85 Yep, I meant that he got back up and then ref stopped it tho....I mean, he *could* have continued. Lewis finished Tyson off with 1 punch as well, but I know it isn't the same thing. Lewis really should have retired undefeated.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward That's cool. Bowe threw the WBC belt in a garbage rather than fight Lewis. Never heard about this 11mil deal, but his manager, according to your post, clearly said the fight would happen 'in the summer of 1994'. So who ducked out of that one? Why did that fight never happen? As for Bowe's sister - didn't seem to have an affect on his first couple of fights. Show up ready to fight, or don't show up at all. Can't hold that on Lewis.
@MandoGuerrero2 Article: Lewis, Bowe agree to fight in late fall
Article from:
The Boston Globe (Boston, MA)

Yesterday promoters for World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and former champion Riddick Bowe announced the two would finally meet sometime in late fall
Boxing: Former champion outraged when fight is stopped in second round, canceling big-money bout against Bowe.
September 25, 1994|From Associated Press
The victory knocked Lewis, 29, out of a megabuck fight against former champion Riddick Bowe. The fight was to have been held in March. Michael Moorer holds the World Boxing Assn. and International Boxing Federation heavyweight titles and is scheduled to fight George Foreman in November.
1.) Riddick Bowe was offered $20m to fight George Foreman in China in 1992.......Rock Newman said even "his mother" didn't know who Lennox lewis was.....
2.) "As for Bowe's sister-didn't seem to have an affect on his first couple of fights".........So why was he LUCKY to get past a BUM called Alexander Miroshnichenko who DROPPED HIM TWICE (Not like the BULLSHIT TKO by Lennox Lewis but properly DROPPED!
3.) Bowe SIGNED TO FIGHT LEWIS But SPONGE CAKE CHIN Lewis got KTFO!!
So he got knocked down twice in his career by McCall and Rahman. He took power punches from Tyson, Ruddock, Holyfield, Klitschko and Tua by didn't get knocked down. He has no chin?! It's clear you don't know anything about boxing - even Ali says he is the GOAT.
@Duty281Returns lewis can get kncked out with a single shot or two he cannot hold punches he fought a washed up tyson n none of those guys hit him no real hardcore exchanges lewis cannot go blow for blow with no one he fights from the outside to guard his big glass chin...
@Duty281Returns An iron chin?? hahahahahaha you're so much of a fan boy that you would actually make urself believe that. i admit lennox was a good boxer from the outside n picking guys apart...But mainly everytime he was forced to exchange on the inside he would get startiled n hurt which resulted him to stop that action quickly n go bak to the outside... he has no chin get over it, he can get knocked out by any heavyweight that connects cleanly...
But he didn't. Tua connected cleanly on Lewis's chin with his left hook but Lewis didn't go down. Holyfield, Tyson, Klitschko, Mercer and Ruddock all connected but Lewis didn't go down. Lewis was down less times than Ali and Holyfield in his career. Lewis = Iron Chin.
@Duty281Returns Klitschko was beating light chined lewis's ass fact. Klitschko was beating him on the scorecards in the majority of the rounds...only thing that stopped Klitchko from winning was the cut since you like making excuses for Lewis. This one is just more concrete...After that fight, the fans wanted to see a rematch that he never granted Klitschko because he was scared of getting beat he was certaintly fighting like he was scared holding n hugging Klitchko so much during the fight...
@Duty281Returns where was the rematch fanboy fucktard?nomater what lewis will never get full respect for bitching out and not giving the fans what they wanted to see.To himself he probably thought mann i was lucky to have opened up a cut on him..cuz he was kicking my ass in mainly every round, hell no no rematch!! LOL love the interview on lewis after that fight where he was told he was losing in like every round and that the stoppage basically saved him, he got soo emotional result no REMATCH!!
commentator: "lennox lewis's career is now in tatters." lol...he sort of made up for it, no?

As a boxing fan, this is my honest opionion...
Lucky punch? Yes;
Fight ended prematurely? For a title match, yes;
Did Lewis have a chance if the fight went on? Not likely;
Does Lewis have one of the weakest chin for a heavyweight champ? Yes;

Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis: career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis' most difficult opponents:
Mike Tyson - Before we encroach this subject, lets rewind to 1998 and a statement by Emmanuel Steward about the quality of Lennox Lewis's opposition-"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight,"
Mike Tyson admitted he was ALSO a washed up drug addict in 2002!

That was a bullshit stoppage from the ref who was probably paid off by Don King. Lennox got up and showed he was ready with gloves near his face after the 8 count. When Don King is around you can always expect some bullshit like this... Just like the bullshit draw Lewis got against Holyfield.

STFU!

@0Shane13 I think Tyson > Lewis because no way in hell does mike tyson get knocked out in the 2nd round in his early 20s

The rematches won by Lennox were pissoff. mcCall not fighting at all and crying in the ring. Rehman already lost many matches. The two were not great fighters. Lennox winning over them is not a great thing. Just watch Ali, Foreman, Holyfield and Tyson in action. Seeing Lennox as great just because he KO'd Tyson is not good.
vijaykolliajay 3 months ago

11nytram11 4 days ago
How good is Lewis? I really don't know... On paper he looks like one of the best, having beaten the likes of Tyson, Holyfield, Tucker, Bruno, Ruddock, Tua, Botha, and Klitschko, being beaten only twice; both times later being avenged. And yet... why did he lose to clearly inferior opponents? Why did he run from a Klitschko rematch? And why did he wait so long to face Tyson and Holyfield? Yes, Lewis is great, but is he a top 5, top 10, or top 20? Take your pick... For myself, I just don't know...
93stormer 4 months ago
@93stormer He lost to Rahman & McCall because he got lazy & complacent.
He didn't have the rematch with Klitschko because the first fight proved his time was coming to an end and he didn't want to ruin his legacy by fighting on past his best.
Don King refused to let Tyson fight Lewis until 2002. Lewis had beaten so many of King's fighters and been on top so long that King never thought Tyson ready. The only reason the fight happened in the end was because Tyson needed the money.
11nytram11 4 days ago

@bobber0623 Imagine what an earlier tyson would have done to marshmellow chin lewis?! Tyson used to slap Mccall around in sparring!
fadethetrade 4 months ago
@fadethetrade I imagine Lewis would have boxed his way to a 8th round tko.
Pooledogg 4 months ago
@Pooledogg TYson as a 21 yr old beats lewis because lewis had a marshmellow chin and would have been ko'd 3 more times if lewis had the guts to fight top contenders before his 3rd year as a pro.He turned pro in 89 and hid from contention till 93 when he fought a dying ruddock already plastered and finished by tysons brutal killing of him.Your imagination is warped if you think lewis would beat tyson of 21 yrs old the same way he beat a ghost and totally shot tyson.
fadethetrade 4 months ago
@fadethetrade Prove it.
Pooledogg 4 months ago
@Pooledogg Lewis was ko'd twice by 2 guys not known for their power.Lewis beat them in a rematch. My point is as a first fight, tyson would surely at 21 yrs old, discombobulate lewis because lewis never faced anyone with that much speed and power at the same time.Lewis got his brain rattled when two mediocre guys ,not one but 2 at 6 yrs apart during lewis prime, landed clean shots early ,finished lewis off.
fadethetrade 4 months ago
@Pooledogg Tyson at 21 was a perpetual motion natural force and thru hindsite, based on lewis two kod times and tysons 9 title defenses, not losing more then 2 rounds in the entire tenure of his peak while fighting guys who would certainly and capably beat Mccall and rahman ,certainly lewis would have not been able to figure out tyson in time before tyson finished him off as two extremely lessor opponenets did already to lewis.Use hindsite.
fadethetrade 4 months ago
@fadethetrade Do you mean hindsight? Lewis peaked at a different time to Tyson. Lewis was at his best around 34-38 years old. I could not see Tyson ever beating a Klitschko.
Pooledogg 4 months ago
@Pooledogg Thanks for correcting my poor spelling skills.Yes,hindsight.In hindsight, the way tyson was utilizing the amazing defensive first posture,(which you miscalculated when he was 21) he would beat klitchko by unanimous decision as he did bonecrusher smith who was as good if not a little better then both klitchkos at that time.Klitshckos style of jab and throwing the big right,as lewis did, would both be nullified .You forgot or perhaps were a little too young at that time frome 86-88.
fadethetrade 4 months ago
@fadethetrade I disagree. Tyson would have got caught by Klitschko and Lewis. He would be Tko'd from 8 onwards.
Pooledogg 4 months ago
@Pooledogg The styles of fighters, even tall fighters, looking to jab then throw the right hand and continue to try to set their own pace, was suicide vs, the 87-88 tyson.Douglas was able to because tyson focus was gone before that fight. It took a foreman or ali type to stop that tyson of 21.His muscle fiber twitching was just too fast and too much for "set their pace" type fighters like klitchko or lewis to handle, unless they decide to fight a survival fight and hope to get a late fight rally.
fadethetrade 4 months ago
@Pooledogg AGain, use hindsite. How lewis got ko'd twice, the way those guys ko'd him was a black eye in lewis' career because he showed extreme vulnerability when faced with an agressive approach and facing an early knockdown. He couldn't get up to win the fight or at least survive it. He needed a rematch.Tyson at 21 accelerated in that type of attack and early ko.Lewis getting ko'd by mccall and rahman played right into a 21 yr old tysons strength with vulnerable fighters.Use hindsite.
fadethetrade 4 months ago
@Pooledogg In fact watching this mccall/lewius fight, the tyson of 21 yrs old would ko this lewis in 2 rounds.wouldnt need 4,just 2.

Soon after Brenda's death, Bowe's brother, Henry, was diagnosed HIV-positive. He later died from Aids-related illnesses. 'It was hard to go to the Olympics with what was happening. There was really no one I could speak with. So I just tried to deal with it the best I could

kevinwilliams1988 5 months ago
Could you imagine if Tyson had never went to prison in 91, he would have fought Lewis in 92, 93 or 94, and imo would have destroyed him. Same goes for Evander Holyfield. Instead Mike Tyson comes out of jail in 96, having not trained for 3 years. He lost three of what could have been great years for him in the early nineties.
gregm20072007 5 months ago
@gregm20072007 mike tyson never would beat evander holyfield, styles make fights, prime tyson might well ko lewis in the first fight, because tyson got great combinations and lewis did not have great chin, but evander holyfield? never, evander beats tyson always, of course prime tyson would be more competent, but still evander wins by decision.
combatesdeboxeo 5 months ago
@combatesdeboxeo I disagree, look at the first holyfield fight, tyson wasn't that far behind on points, and the tyson of the 80's was twice the fighter that fought holyfield in 96, both physically and mentally, holyfield would not be able to live with a prime tyson imo. He was a fucking wrecking machine
gregm20072007 5 months ago
@gregm20072007 THE MYTHICAL PRIME TYSON NEVER FACED A FIGHTER IN THE LEVEL OF EVANDER, HE DESTROYED BUMS LIKE BERBICK IN HIS 30S, A FORMER LHW SPINKS IN HIS 30S, SHOT LARRY HOLMES, TONY TUCKER(NOT A GREAT THING), TYSON DID LOOK BETTER THAN HE WAS REALLY BECAUSE HE FACED AVERAGE FIGHTERS. EVANDER BEATS TYSON ALWAYS, MY OPINION
combatesdeboxeo 5 months ago
@combatesdeboxeo and lewis got knocked out by bumps twice with single punch
Megadeth72 5 months ago
yes he did, it is because i think that foreman, liston and even tyson would ko lewis in the first match, but lewis was great in a rematch, he was focused and careful, of course lewis could be defeated by average fighters, (like mccall and rahman)
combatesdeboxeo 5 months ago
@Megadeth72 i would not put my money on him against several legends, but still in his best night he could well beat anyone as well. he was hot and cold, probably he would be defeated by ali, holmes, he would
be destroyed by joe louis, foreman and tyson in the first match, marciano and frazier would have his chance. but lewis would have chance to beat anyone in a rematch,of course he would not be undefeated in any era ,but probably he would avenge his defeats.
combatesdeboxeo 5 months ago
Tyson faced them and HE DESTROYED THEM, that was ORIGINAL TYSON. Evander had NO CHANCE against Tyson in his prime.
M. Frazier, Ribalta, Berbick, Pinklon Thomas, Bruno, Spinks, Larry Holmes, Ruddock, Stewart etc. He knocked them all. Even Buster Douglas ( he was down for 13 sec in round 8 ).
Tyson in his prime was the BEST HW EVER.
TSOKES 5 months ago
@TSOKES . yes, he destroyed bums and it proves what? the typical words of a blind tyson fanboy, sorry but you have 0 credibility.and buster douglas destroyed tyson.who evander holyfield raped . prime holyfield beats prime tyson always. "tyson in his prime the best hw ever" hehehe it is very funny, prime ali would expose tyson badly, probably even prime holmes would beat prime tyson(if tucker, smith or tillis survived against tyson, holmes would do it much better).

What Great fighter did Joe louis beat? What great fighter did Jack Johnson, Dempsey or Marciano beat?
If your going to mention Ezzard Charles or Joe Walcott im a bit confused why you dismiss Spinks as only a LH.
Ezzard Charles was a great LH but so was Spinks. Infact he was 1 of the greatest Lhs.
Ontop of this he beat Larry Holmes who was undeafeted for about 7 years.
Holmes wasnt at hes best but he was still good. He also koed Cooney.

Just to be clear, I think that Dempsey, Marciano, Johnson and Louis where all great fighters but I just dont get
why these fighters isnt criticized for not beating great fighters when Mike is.
Also I dont get why Tyson dosent get more cred for hes win over Spinks when Marciano gets cred for Charles.
That was Spinks only loss.
I dont think that Tyson is the best ever but i do think a prime Tyson could give any Heavy a run for there money.

combatesdeboxeo 5 months ago
@TSOKES george foreman in his prime would knock tyson out(clean ko, not tko) probably in 3-4 rounds, prime liston would demolish tyson as well. joe louis would have great chance to destroy tyson in a rematch if they fought 2 times. even jack jonhson could well frustrate tyson in the clinch like smith did. if rocky marciano increments his weight to 210 pounds(he could do it because he was a big boned guy). i am pretty sure , he would ko tyson. even vitali klitschko would have chance to beat tyson
combatesdeboxeo 5 months ago

Yeah your probably right there he didnt have a glass jaw,he certainly fought tyson at the right time and would of been found out alot sooner had he fought tyson when tyson was hungry, how anyone could take his fight with tyson seriously when tyson wieghed 18lbs heavier than his natural fighting wieght of 215-220 max.Theres no way tyson had got himself in shape.Oliver mc'call should of been routine defence, and the same with rahman,so i will always question lewis's credability.
frankieflem 6 months ago
Lewis had a glass jaw,a proper one,he got banged and was finished.A better fighter than bruno, but a weaker jaw.
frankieflem 6 months ago
@frankieflem, Lewis' jaw wasn't made of the iron stuff, granted, but I don't think you can say he had a glass one. McCall caught him with a good'un, & history shows that if anyone gets hit with the right punch, they can lose. Rahman? Well Lewis was clearly out of shape and didn't take it seriously. But there aren't many Heavyweights in history who fought more big punchers than Lewis; Tua, Ruddock, Tyson, Briggs, Bruno, V. Klitschko etc and he survived them. Not a great jaw, but not glass either.

A. One of them happened when he was 35 years old.
B. One of them resulted in a stoppage while on his feet.
C. He avenged both defeats, whearas some champions couldn't come back to defeat their conquerors.
D. He tested his chin on numerous occasions against other big punchers without ever going down.

The fact that Lewis retired once Vitali earned his mandatory rematch speak for itself. He was scared of him because he knew after that fight that Vitali was the better boxer. what are u on about. ali got hammered by loads of people and put on the deck. henry cooper for one! it was only the fact that his corner decided they needed to cut his glove off to buy him time that he survived. tyson was knocked out by lewis! and the reason they didnt fight earlier was because tyson refused to fight him, and gave up the belt when lewis was number one contender, as did bowe. prob cus they new they would lose

@OHNSTAD85 You can't get knocked out by two bums and never beat a great fighter in his prime, and then say you're underrated.
You can do one or the other. You can win all your fights even if competition isn't great. You can lose fights if you have wins over greats in there too. Not both.
TA152H01 5 months ago
@OHNSTAD85 Actually tyson got knocked out exactly like that against Douglas and Lewis :) Foreman did against Ali, and Holyfield did against Bowe. Basically all similar TKO's other than Ali's KO of Foreman. And Lewis TKO'd Bowe in the Olympics - only mentioning it since Bowe ducked him in the pros.
MandoGuerrero2 5 months ago
@MandoGuerrero2 Lewis was knocked out with one songle punch! Tyson was knocket out by a four puch combination by 110 KG Buster Douglas. Foreman by a combinaton of 5-6 punces and Holyfield by a flurry. One punch by Rahman and one puch by Mccall.

@OHNSTAD85 Yep, I meant that he got back up and then ref stopped it tho....I mean, he *could* have continued. Lewis finished Tyson off with 1 punch as well, but I know it isn't the same thing. Lewis really should have retired undefeated.

@OHNSTAD85 Lewis was a bum, even Floyd Patterson had a better chin than sponge-cake face Lennox Lewis

@OHNSTAD85 + tyson was knocked out after getting hit at least 200 times b4 the KO punch. obviously this mando is a noob at boxing

@OHNSTAD85 Not to Mention Tyson arguably knocked Douglass out in the same fight 2 rds prior.

@MandoGuerrero2 After Lewis Turns Down $11 Million, Bowe Fight Won't Happen Until '94
July 21, 1993|From Associated Press
Lennox Lewis, the World Boxing Council heavyweight champion, has rejected a deal to fight Riddick Bowe for the undisputed title.
"We declined that, and the Bowe fight won't happen until the summer of 1994," Maloney said.
WHAT????? DID HE FUCK.........LENNOX LEWIS DID THE DUCKING!!!.........OLYMPICS???......BOWE'S SISTER BRENDA WAS MURDERED WEEKS B4 1988 OLYMPICS!
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 5 months ago
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward That's cool. Bowe threw the WBC belt in a garbage rather than fight Lewis. Never heard about this 11mil deal, but his manager, according to your post, clearly said the fight would happen 'in the summer of 1994'. So who ducked out of that one? Why did that fight never happen? As for Bowe's sister - didn't seem to have an affect on his first couple of fights. Show up ready to fight, or don't show up at all. Can't hold that on Lewis.

@MandoGuerrero2 McCall Shocks Lewis for Title
Boxing: Former champion outraged when fight is stopped in second round, canceling big-money bout against Bowe.
September 25, 1994|From Associated Press
The victory knocked Lewis, 29, out of a megabuck fight against former champion Riddick Bowe. The fight was to have been held in March. Michael Moorer holds the World Boxing Assn. and International Boxing Federation heavyweight titles and is scheduled to fight George Foreman in November.

@MandoGuerrero2
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 5 months ago
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Then the Chicago Mafia made McCall drop the belt to Lewis on the re-match!!

all u assholes stop makin excuses for lewis he got knocked the fuk out he has no chin
FightMang36 7 months ago
@FightMang36
So he got knocked down twice in his career by McCall and Rahman. He took power punches from Tyson, Ruddock, Holyfield, Klitschko and Tua by didn't get knocked down. He has no chin?! It's clear you don't know anything about boxing - even Ali says he is the GOAT.
Duty281Returns 7 months ago
@Duty281Returns lewis can get kncked out with a single shot or two he cannot hold punches he fought a washed up tyson n none of those guys hit him no real hardcore exchanges lewis cannot go blow for blow with no one he fights from the outside to guard his big glass chin...
FightMang36 7 months ago
@FightMang36
Lewis was down just TWICE in a very long career. He has an iron chin not glass. Lennox Lewis is the GOAT.

I'm here because I was the greatest, I'm now no longer the greatest. He's the greatest, he's the champ."
Muhammad Ali on Lennox Lewis.
Say no more.
Duty281Returns 6 months ago
@Duty281Returns An iron chin?? hahahahahaha you're so much of a fan boy that you would actually make urself believe that. i admit lennox was a good boxer from the outside n picking guys apart...But mainly everytime he was forced to exchange on the inside he would get startiled n hurt which resulted him to stop that action quickly n go bak to the outside... he has no chin get over it, he can get knocked out by any heavyweight that connects cleanly...
FightMang36 6 months ago
@FightMang36
Duty281Returns 6 months ago
@Duty281Returns Klitschko was beating light chined lewis's ass fact. Klitschko was beating him on the scorecards in the majority of the rounds...only thing that stopped Klitchko from winning was the cut since you like making excuses for Lewis. This one is just more concrete...After that fight, the fans wanted to see a rematch that he never granted Klitschko because he was scared of getting beat he was certaintly fighting like he was scared holding n hugging Klitchko so much during the fight...
FightMang36 6 months ago
@FightMang36
Yes a cut caused by Lewis. Retard.
Duty281Returns 6 months ago
@Duty281Returns where was the rematch fanboy fucktard?nomater what lewis will never get full respect for bitching out and not giving the fans what they wanted to see.To himself he probably thought mann i was lucky to have opened up a cut on him..cuz he was kicking my ass in mainly every round, hell no no rematch!! LOL love the interview on lewis after that fight where he was told he was losing in like every round and that the stoppage basically saved him, he got soo emotional result no REMATCH!!
