  • i enjoyed this vid

  • Very enjoyable thank you

  • Not that I'm trying to bad mouth other countries, but you do realize we can actually see the Northern Lights in America too, and I'm not only talking about Alaska, I live in North Dakota, and we can see them too. Before calling American's stupid, you might like to learn a thing or two about America first. Thanks.

  • @PhiloftheFuturama You can see them from North Dakota? Really? Here in Europe we can't see them below Scandinavia though Berlin (I live there) is farther north than the US. Strange...

  • Never before have anything with such beauty...

  • @cav3mo2 Yes. :) I was just responding specifically to the other poster who needs to the words in the Bible.

  • God bless our Canada and our Lights, i'm so proud and privilaged to be canadian.

  • See you stupid americans, Canada is gifted from space even!

  • Hey look, I Pienza such that this phenomenon is all the energy you can get to live forever. Do not ask me why ... Only what I feel, no but "if we could capture that energy then we would have energy for all" clean nature. I believe that the earth is charged with solar explosions and the earth absorbs.

  • It's so beautiful.. what does it mean? what does this mean!! *cries*

  • Dear those angered by overzealous Christians I say:

I'm sorry these people ruin my faith and make my God look like a simple destructive bigot. Ignore them and they will go away they just want attention. To the atheists I say this: If you are a good person he doesn't care if you have faith or not.

  • @thelewddwarf28 Even though He says otherwise... faith is required, not just being a "good person".

  • Thank you, Don, for exploring the heavens and sharing them with us. The physics of the aurora are fascinating--and everyone should learn more about the science behind this 'natural art'. I found this video on the "Scientifically Yours" blog from The S3 Initiative. Check it out if you are interested in the place where science meets space meets society.

  • it is amazing..

  • you know how proud the people must be to actually be able to get this footage, its so amazing and beautiful.

  • it is very CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a cool video

  • I wish I could see thatamazing spectacle from there... :(

  • yea, more fake shit from nasa.

  • Thank God I'm atheist :P

  • earth is beautifullllllllllll <3

  • @marsowaconlycsbre it truly is, i have experienced aurora lots of times. We are destroying our earth slowly but for sure though :-(

  • Beautiful !

  • If god is forever then why cant the universe be forever? As soon as you say God created the universe you are just making things more complicated, who or what then made God???

  • @3556df44 Don't feed the troll. Idiot christfags probably get off on posting retarded comments and sparking controversy.

  • @3556df44 no where in the bible does it say god created the universe, it says the heavens and the earth

  • @3556df44 That is a question i ones asked my mother (i'm born christian) i asked her if god realy excists then who created him? where did HE come from, and she answerd: "that is gods secret and that one day we all will know in time.. U don't have to belive in the holy bible, u dont have to pray eveyday or go to church aslong as u are a good human being and have a heart of gold and done good in your life. God will carry u on his shoulders" now that is religion for me.. being a good human.

  • And we're destroying that in every single moment we breath.

  • screw religion. this is beautiful.

  • @thec4nt1 and unlike religion,this is REAL! :)

  • @thec4nt1 YES!!

  • uuuh, fuck that stupid christian discussions here!!!!!!!!

  • @Mordan666 Why "christian duscussions"? There's alwas two sides to a coin. The atheists are guilty, too!

  • @createwithnate thats true but, i wouldnt say that to anyone. maybe u get killed, because thay think u are crazy or a blasphemer :P

  • So thats where my kryptonite is!

  • this planet is fucking beautiful. full of many mysteries and secrets. i cant wait to find out!

  • The auroras look so much cooler in space.

And I can't help myself, but it reminds me of the lifestream from Final Fantasy VII

    LOL XD

  • Epic

  • our earth is sooooo beautiful

  • @aribunnie12 Yes it is beautiful, but when you see what BP oil has done in the gulf of Mexico, it makes you think about how we as humans are so close to destroying this fragile world. Change has to happen, but not even this disaster will stop the consumption of the earths resources. I wonder what horrific event has to happen for us to stop?

  • @imjustachillin it could only happen once we will truly discern what have we done to nature.. and that we are only tenants in this part of the universe.

  • @adoboogie I think you are right, but this BP oil well is still losing alot of oil!

I wonder if this is indeed the "once" you speak of?

    lets hope not!

I'd like to think that the next tenants have a nice universe to live in.

  • @imjustachillin just part of it, learning experience.. yeah you are right.. BP officials neglected their engineers' and experts' recommendations for lesser cost. It is sad and disappointing that some people's greed resulted to massive ecological destruction.

Move for the renewable sources of energy. Some of it lay dormant waiting to be discovered.

  • @imjustachillin People have been shouting the word "change" forever now, one man in particular used it as his sales pitch and got elected... what change do you suggest? If it's so easy for us to change and save this "fragile" world, then guide us oh great one. Sure, we need to take care of our home, but until people put some back into it finding affordable, logical solutions, quit preaching about how evil we are. Change by force costs people/families jobs, is that fair to them?

  • @aerowenn "oh great one" thats me I guess? I think it's going to be hard for those of us who "need to take care of our home" when there is a big old oil slick around the coast. As for finding affordable, logical solutions, when I invent something I will let you know. I never said or preached about how "evil we are" as for being fair to "people/families jobs" I think a lot of people will have lost there jobs directly or indirectly through this Disaster, & NO it is not fair for them.

  • @aerowenn change could be done slowly, not an abrupt one. we cannot do it overnight. otherwise, there would always be falling back.

  • The Northern Lights are one of the things everyone should see before they pass away. It makes me sad just to think that I see them many times in my lifetime, when some of us never will. :(

  • @Varjostin you have?? wow...ur so lucky...i doubt i'd ever be able to see it....remember aribunnie12 everytime u look at it ok...XD

  • @aribunnie12 Just book a trip to Alaska or Lapland or somewhere in winter :D

But I try to remember also ;D

  • A unique form of life--conscious and ghostly?

  • omg, the northern lights are so scary ! i live in northern norway so i see them every winter, its amazing but still scary !

  • @emo0fuck ~ how amaze if i can c it by myself~~

  • this alm0ost looks fake

  • Very beautiful - From an unusual viewpoint too

  • Remind me of solar flares

  • @Coryphaeus can be caused by them too

  • Fantastic Go NASA

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • LOL

  • Comment removed

  • They obviously do. How else do you think they got the video?

  • @Burton-- They do; if you notice, this video is taken from a satellite and is a series of photos as opposed to video. It's a much more efficient way to capture and store data.

  • I realised that about a month ago. Besides why are you replying to something that is a month old?

  • @chadmrw

Your comment made me think you were like a star: Not very bright!

  • @chadmrw:

holy shit, dont you know any word but fuck??? you sound like a effin idiot and if you don't like stars, why are you here????!!!!! you shut the fuck up

  • Que hermoso !!,Increible no sabia que en el espacio se daban estas maravillas .

  • If you'd watch another vid of aurora borealis that contains the explanation you'll understand.

Somehow there is a collision of gases in the northern part because of something that sun emits. (something like that)

  • AMZING !! SO COOL LOL

  • Tell me, why don't you see stars during the day? Nothing to do with gases, as you can see them at night.

They went to the moon when the sun shined, so no stars. Why would they conspire against something so dumb...?

  • BECAUSE IT'S TOO LIGHT IN THE DAY MORON

  • You really don't understand. It was addressing people who believe in the stupid moon conspiracy. :P I wanted to find what they would say.

  • whoa, that's not nice.

  • @Feedmadcat - isn't the sun, a star?

It's just too light during the day to see the light the stars bring and addition to that, the stars you are saying are distant from the earth.

The stars are present even at the day, they don't disappear

Look how the night contrasts the brightness of the stars, that's why those distant stars are visible at night.

  • @J0viiS Yes, you are correct, the sun is a star. You are damn right correct.

  • "reflection drowns out the light of the stars"

Why would you post a comment that clearly contradicts what you can see on the video? The sun IS shining on the planet. Look around 0:40. Is it possible that you would post a stupid comment like that because you want a lie to be the truth? If you come from a country built on lies, Kennedy assasination, Vietnam war, Iraq weapons of mass destruction, 911, etc... When you take away the lies, what is left? A bad smell, that's all.

  • There are a number of factors that explain why stars are not displaying in several of the moon landing shots, not the least of which is how the camera is calibrated. Space is very bright; it's not like night time on the earth. If the cameras of the day were set to pick up distant stars the images would have washed out. Focus and film quality has much to do with it as well. Also, take another look at the images from 0:27 through 0:38 - almost starless due to the angle of the images.

  • Look at the stars... Wonder why they were not included when men allegedly "went to the moon"... too hard maybe?

  • Look at a "Book". The nearest star to us is 4 light years away. That is TRILLIONS of miles. The moon is only 280,000 miles. We cannot get to a star even if we wanted to. It is way too far away. But the moon is very close.

  • do you realise how shitty the cameras were back then. and the lunar surface is so bright that its impossible to see the stars beyond. read a book and you'd realise it

  • Are you serious? If you had any bit of an education (or even common sense, for that matter) you could google that exact statement of yours and find out the answer in a matter of seconds.

I know you're trying to come across as a smart conspiracy nazi and all, but trust me when I say that you're terrible at it. Read about a topic before you decide to dismiss it as false.

    Get outta here.

  • What terrible lies!

  • Amazing!:) Thanks!

  • this better not be a screamer video!

  • some read what is written some look with their eyes....helmsman 69-71 a non techy projection

  • its fantastic!!...

  • Hey does anyone know how fast are auroras in person? I feel that most videos on auroras speed up the frame rate. But anyway I hope to see one in person soon

  • they don't move very fast, sort of like clouds changing shape.

  • ohhhhhhhlala fantastic my friend i love it 555555555 ********

  • this can be explaned in sience !!

  • If ancient man didn't beleive in god, this would be a wery good reason for them to invent the idea.

  • dont speak about religion, please. it's not worthy of being mentioned in the presence of SPACE

  • Your right, I don't want space thinking there's a bogeyman hiding in the closet.

  • yes a body without preconceptions sorry about the three letter word

  • ancient man didn't know of god? that's an awfully presumptious assumption. Can you prove it?

  • The poster likely means that ancient humans were not aware of "God," meaning the Judeo Christian god, which is true whether you think he doesn't exist and is a human invention (and therefore didn't come around until the first or second millenium BC), or if you think he's real and believe that he kept a low profile between Noah and Abraham.

  • looks so unreal ;O

  • Very cool to observe, but also not very healthy when you have to work during an aurora borealis in this thin atmosphere environment.

  • it is animated, the spacestation never passes over the poles, and not in such a high orbit

  • Comment removed

  • i read it, but the guy i was commenting to did not.

  • can you imagine being an ancient man before we knew anything about science and stumbling upon the Northern or southern lights one night? You'd probably think God has chosen you.

  • not necessarily, because ancient man didn;t know of god.. so its more like they must have been aww inspired by these lights, i presume, accordingly speaking.

  • Does God believe in Apes?

  • I'd be scared shitless =P

  • lol your comment has got me laughing XD

  • Do Apes believe in God?

  • @createwithnate i was just thinking that

  • @createwithnate i can imagine

  • @createwithnate .............Yeah I know,..........Knowledge will be the death of mankind

  • @createwithnate they didn't have god back then. that was only invented recently

  • @createwithnate

    haha yeah

  • @createwithnate every time man looks at creation he can't help but see Gods awesome wonder, Me and thousands of other people who love science and love God cant help but remeber that God HAS Chosen us. I don't know your heart and what you believe but your comment touched my heart and reminded me of love my God and i have, Lord Bless!

  • @Strings4TheSavior why must there be a god?

why cant beautiful things just exist?

  • @Alex2149 Because without God nothing beautiful would exist...

  • @gibsondude07 Pathetic christfag is pathetic.

  • @Moonshield15 That's cool man :)

  • @Moonshield15 christfag? you sound like a christian

  • @createwithnate Or, maybe those ancient people knew maybe more about religion and our creators than our fairy tellers from our days :)

  • Astounding!

  • I've swum in bioluminescent sea under the moon and stars...

The next best thing maybe ^^

    Very beautiful - both

  • me too luckily :)

  • and this is yet another good reason to live in Finland :3

  • peace

  • yea. Suomi Rules

  • metal, northern lights, koskencorva(don't know the spelling :P) , ooh yes finn girls XD

  • @Hukari Finland, Finland, Finland! Thats the country for me!!!

  • @Hukari in wat part of finland you can see that? and when? i'd like to go someday..

  • @darketteoh actually (I'm not making this up) I saw some northern lights 15 minutes ago, but they weren't that bright... but yeah one can see northern lights in Finland's winter. it's kinda once in a month thing though

  • Beautiful!! very beautiful, but unfortunately i live in NZ (Wellington) so i never see aurora.

  • Friend of mine said that while observing Aurora Borealis in Canada's NORTH the strange noise is present and some how speaking is forbiden. Who will elaborate on this?

  • oxygen is a rare red color, yellow and green colors are oxygen at a very low level, nitrogen is a red color that always seems to form lower fringes, blue is for hydrogen and purple is for Helium

  • watch me peace

  • with the music it seems pretty creepy, but at the same time really cool!

  • aurora became one of the concept designs of windows vista right?

  • Amazing!

    Space for the win!

  • gr8 effort, awsome result, thank u :)

  • I have a doubt.

If this solar wave hits atmosphere and creates this effect on it, how the solar radiation affects the ISS??

  • The "solar waves" don't directly impact the atmosphere...The solar wind pumps energy into the Earth's upper atmosphere, making it glow... Some particles from the Sun impact the upper atmosphere directly, but mostly the effect is indirect...The ISS is well inside the Earth's magnetic field, so it's pretty safe.

  • Beautiful ^_^

  • That's just incredible!!!!!

  • what gives it the green color?

  • Oxygen emits green, yellow or red light.

    Nitrogen gives off blue light.

    :-) Peace everyone !

  • Nice. But why does the Earth apear to move while the stars stay on the same palce? Maybe the camera mount was moved? Still, i'd expect the stars to move.

  • the space station is moving

  • earth is in orbit and the stars are faraway so you cant really tell if they move much and its a serious of still images moving quickly

  • Nah the stars wouldnt move, they're too far away. It's like when you're driving in a car and you look at the sun and clouds, they seem to be following you. It's because they're so far away and massive that the amout you move relative to their distance and size makes their movement unnoticable.

  • beautiful thats all i got to say

  • It's COOL man!!!!

  • I love the auroras. ^_^

  • I`m afraid - moneyshop16 - is exactly what he sounds like - a 14 year old boy who fantasizes about fast cars, doesn`t read books, and gets his rocks off swearing at people on the net. Certainly does not seem to be the owner of a brain..

  • muy chido video {

    sube otro donde des

    explicacion de las auroras boreales }

    pero en español please

  • si. bueno video, :)

  • beautiful! It's just our planet magnetic field interacting with radiation from the sun.

  • Beautiful!

It's Mamma Earth getting her groove on!

    Go Momma Go Momma!

  • incredible... and yet it seems more than half the world is doing its best to destroy this beauty.sadly, we're succeeding. look at the kinsale head gas field.

  • Life is all coming to the beauty of this.

We should be happy for this. Should we char ice it for ever

  • All signs point to a universe created from supreme consciousness. Even chemicals have a grand design.

"Bhagavad Gita" has no single author. It was translated from ancient unwritten languages into every known language, long before the time of Buddha, Christ, and Mohammad. Yet all three are credited with quotes directly taken from a book written much earlier, a book of love.

    Oh, yeah, nice video!

  • What are you talking about?

  • A wonderful Blue planet with a green shield. Thanks for the upload. It just makes you want to try and save it more and more you know?

    Chiv

  • This is so beautiful! Love it when it is here home, but it's more amazing from the space!

  • keajaiban allah.

  • i have one thing to say:

"It's the wonder of nature baby!!!"

  • Шикарно! Это настоящая корона нашей Матери Земли!

  • In short, yes. To be honest, any theory science or theology comes up with is just that; a theory.

I'd just rather stick with science, who at least try and prove their theories, than theology, who generally just start wars with anyone who disagrees.

Plus I know this sounds kind of biased, and I apologise, but I don't think it even is possible to have a debate without bias.

  • Prevolution

Scientists theorise that some chemicals in the primordial ooze adapted to survive, similar to the way that creatures are generally believed to evolve today.

Eventually, a certain chemical adapted in such a way that it was able to copy itself, making it the most abundant chemical, absorbing other chemicals in the primordial ooze, and becoming what could be called 'life'.

    If you're going to keep saying, "but where did that come from?" then let me ask you;

    Where did God come from?

  • God is outside of time so the question doesnt really match up.

You cant prove or disprove God with science, and if the bible is true then youre not supposed to even try, "it is an evil and preverse generation that looks for a sign."

You just look around you and either believe that there must be a God or you dont.

Also, why would God want you to intellectualize him if he is the creator of the universe?
