  • Tom Waits rocks my world!! Is´nt there someone playing on a saw in the background? How can this bring tears to my eyes? Damn u Tom u the best!!!

  • his voice is not supposed to sing in that kind of song..its wrong in every way...it should sound like crap...but it doesnt . no one will ever make what Waits has done and is doing...that is the difference between an artist and a genius...Sir.. i hope you live forever

  • what a strange November...

  • So great!!

  • My song, my month

  • I love tome Waits and this song. Does anyone know if there is a theremin playing in it?

  • @kikikattz its a Saw being played, not a theramin.

  • @FnBast thank you :) they sound so similar sometimes...

  • so much passion

  • mam nadzieje, mam wiarę- kilka osób pokochało taka muzykę trochę inna niż celebrytki. pozdrawiam

  • november? more like YESvember....

  • some of the stuff you guys make as comments about are as cold as alaska if you don't like him listen to somefhing else,

  • Made of wet boots and rain

    and shiny black ravens

    on chimney smoke lanes

    November seems odd

    you're my firing squad

    November

  • : )

  • Tom's got me crying, but it's a good cry.

  • What is he waiting for?

  • November it is and this is the song of the month!!

  • ...dark...but Tom is good....

  • Made of wet boots and rain

    and shiny black ravens

    on chimney smoke lanes

  • And Russia.

  • I don't know why but this song reminds me of Neil Gaiman books.

  • I seriously Love This Song. There is now better song writer than Tom Waits

  • i was born in November, and I seriously consider to play this song at my birthday party

  • It's our thirtieth wedding anniversary in November. We could make this the spotlight dance tune.

  • Ahh the authum.. The shifting of the mushroom man, the quite aura and the strange glow.. I just to lissen to tom waits alot these times in the wild and cold nature with cigarettes and candlelights.. I love tom waits, thats one dude easy to like..

  • his voice is absolutely beautiful. one of the few singers i can think of who's music and voice got better with age! =)

  • @darinfl1 what's wrong with trying to sound rediculous though? if you don't like the absurdity and weird grunginess to his voice, that doesn't mean it's bad lol. I think his voice is incredible, and really adds to the emotion in his music. you're right though, he does put alot of undertoned humor in his songs, but even so, i still enjoy the sheer talent of his music and PERSONALLY don't take him as a joke.

  • @darinfl1 WHOOPS I WAS TRYING TO DO THUMBS DOWN ON THE COMMENT POSTED BY eyes....cat, I AGREE WITH YOU- HE CAN SING. LISTEN TO HIS EARLY, IN LOVE WITH DYLAN PHASE ESPECIALLY- AND I WAS LISTENING TO, I THINK, I ADORE THIS MAN AND SO MANY SONGS- I THINK IT WAS ONE VERSION OF CHRISTMAS CARD FROM A HOOKER IN M AND HE HIT A MUCH HIGHER NOTE- CAME UP AN OCTAVE OR TWO, SO YES IT IS PUT ON BUT HIS VOICE CRAPPY NOR HIS STYLE, NON-EXISTANT- OPENING HOWL OF RAINDOGS FROM BIG TIME TO eyes..cat! TWIT!

  • @MSYNGWIE12 ME EYES

  • @darinfl1

Just because he doesn't sing like normal folks doesn't mean he's absurd. Perhaps I find Steve Perry's voice absurd.

  • @peeeesh The fact that he's TRYING to sound absurd means, by definition, that the voice IS absurd. He can sing in a voice that is natural to him, and it is very interesting. The standard voice he uses is completely silly, as it is supposed to be. The fact that people call it "beautiful" and such would be funny were it not for the sad fact that so many clearly force themselves to like something that is called "cool" by a class of people who are oh-so sure about how different and edgy they are.

  • @darinfl1

I'm not even gonna try. You're an idiot.

  • @peeeesh Yeah, you're right. Calling deliberate growling and circus-like groans what they are makes me an idiot.

  • @darinfl1 idiot

  • @joeygarage77 Wow, Joey. Well said. I truly admire your ability to carefully explain and defend your position.

  • You militant Waits fans who spout such nonsense as "best voice ever" and "sounds like the voice of God" and other assorted rubbish might really learn something if you took a few minutes to give this an honest read:

    mileswmathis[dot com]/waits.html

  • @darinfl1 Isn't thier fault they like it? Let them like what they want, and you like what you want.

  • @darinfl1 Took a gander at the article you posted, read the whole thing. All I have to say is that the article itself is charged full of its own bias and opinion. The writer definitely has his/her own tastes and it's apparent. Better yet; it's perfectly fine. Your article and your opinion has the same amount of worth as the 'militant' Waits fans you dislike. The article was far from an impartial view, so enjoy your opinion which is shared by the article and leave Waits fans alone. Win/win.

  • @Legendarybard you are so right let then listento whatever

  • you tell it no one makes you listen

to tom waits so go away an leave him alone,...

  • @darinfl1

Dammit, if only this guy had been around to tell me what to like ten years ago, I might never have started listening to Tom Waits.

  • The greatest musician in all time

  • best singing saw ever

  • I always thought it would be great if Tim Burton directed a video for this song.

  • @GeneLattanzi Tim Burton is a chump. Brothers Quay inspired all his work and is much better.

  • @GeneLattanzi I thought i was the only one.

  • @GeneLattanzi I think Tim Burton and Tom Waits would work well together in any scenario!

  • best tom waits song

  • I was born in November....

    meh whatever. great song

  • i rather foolishly got drawn into reading these comments and missed the song ,won't happen again , thanks for the brief lesson in taking things too seriously

  • lol you all are a joke. flame me with your diseased lungs. flame me so i can open my email and laugh at all the sacks of skin who claim a throne.

  • @uberd0rk1337 cool story, bro.

  • Tom Waits is a master of melding whimsy, melody & melancholia.

  • Why cant i listen to this song without a smoke?

  • @Cha0sB1k3r I love this comment, now I need to go for a smoke. Dick.

  • literally the greatest song in the universe.

  • strange it's had such an effect on people

this song echoed through my head at a turning point in my life

and is still attached to that decision

each sombre autumn i remember when i chose to move on

  • 3 people like November

  • Was this the song that's intro was used in The Movie "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest"?Excellent tune.Love Tom Waits

  • @9746478 no, but they are both singing saws

  • the first time I heard this song I thought it was about manic-depression. all of us see it through our own eyes.

  • the first time I heard this song I thought it was about manic-depression. all of us see it through our own eyes.

  • I love this song, I listened to it so many times I have all the words memorized. During that time I made a strange association... the music in this song is eeriely similar to the opening theme in final fantesy 10 0.0

  • Does anyone know the name of the whistling instrument at the beginning of the song, i heard that same instrument at the end of "one flew over the cuckoos nest" when the "chief" busts out of the asylum and always wanted to know what instrument that is. Its so creepy but me likes. Anyone?

  • The wistling instrument is the theremin

  • @FERDYBOLDI i thought it was the saw.

  • @FERDYBOLDI it's a saw bowed with a violin bow, not a theremin. sounds very similar though.

  • @FERDYBOLDI It's not a theremin. It's a simple saw.

  • Used in old horror movies quite a bit that saw sound.

  • I was born in November as well <3

  • Great!

  • altro che a novembre di giusy ferreri!!!

  • @JAMAICANSKA60 lol ska

  • Don Neely - saw

  • that almost sounds like a Theremin in the beginning, I hope it is

  • It's a saw.

  • musical saw, similar to theremin but a much more acoustic sound.

  • hey man, calm down!

    it´s ok, i didn´t want to start a fight.

    cheers!

  • 0o _

  • no offence to the video maker, but these pix don't reflect the textures of the music - the song is dead leaves, buckshot flags and chimney smoke lane, but the pictures have a glossy coffee table sheen...

  • agreed

  • what lovely bent stillness...

  • Why does November suck. You should be thankful for the chance to enjoy what it brings. No one can control the weather anymore than you can control when your number is up. Be very thankful for enjoying what you have, you might not make the rest of the day.

  • i love november. my birthday is in that month :D and i love the fall

  • yeah me too. I am partial to fog.....don't due heat well anymore...from chico...still can't get use to the heat.

  • my birthday is in that month as well and to me november is one of the most beautiful and creative months.

  • Mine too! :D Totally agree!

  • Many born in November are scorpios and they tend to be extremely creative, outgoing and bold. Most of our crazy people are born in November.

  • @rlegear19 i am a november! and its true we are crazy! hahaha im sagitarious

  • @pepe7drum So's Tom!

  • November 8th here..

  • this song makes me somehow proud of beeing bourn in November...I know.. it dosen't make sence but still.

    Greatest Song In The World..

    peace

  • me too :) the 9th

  • I'm a scorpio.

  • The song is about how much November sucks.

  • yeah... that's why I said:

"It dosen't make sence but still"

  • So it is. And yet I find a similar pride, myself.

  • goosebumps...

  • @lirumlarum777 I never did mean to imply Mr Waites writes his song to suit my own emotional state.

I do indeed know a proper meal you can smell the difference tween a cow or some bull.....for the record.

I love the song Mr Waites is a musical champion, Ill take from it all the emotional introspection I choose.

  • @GRAILKNIGHTPARZIFAL

The name is "Waits"- not Waites.

PS: Der Herr hat ein Geheimnis !

  • @lirumlarum777

    Pardon my lack of spellcheck...

Just tie me to a old dead tree, november seems odd your my firing squad.......

  • @GRAILKNIGHTPARZIFAL

---Smell the difference between a cow and some bull---

Or just another sucker on the vine, thus is born the Waitsian school of conversational poetry.

  • @lirumlarum777

At least I dont go out of my way to insult people, seems kinda sad to me, its like your hurting on the inside and striking out to cause pain on someone else to mask your own hurt.

My heart goes out to you.

  • @ROBBEAUDOIN66 Emo faggot.

  • @ROBBEAUDOIN66 faggot

  • @ROBBEAUDOIN66 Nice long, negative, insulting post, douchebag.

  • @ROBBEAUDOIN66 maybe cut the bastard some slack, maybe he's drunk, or maybe even, he's really that bleak and sad... I welcome his negativity, I'm too positive.

  • @ROBBEAUDOIN66 Can I hire you to defend me on reddit?

  • @ROBBEAUDOIN66

Bleak sad little inners abound the western world.

  • @SparePartsII I agree, but its ok. The darkness helps to define the light.

    I really love this song!

  • @GRAILKNIGHTPARZIFAL

Yes it is a powerful song.

    Cheers

  • @GRAILKNIGHTPARZIFAL You fucking pretentious emo faggot.

  • @Tripo1iSamson Nothing really more lame then a anonymous person that insults people as some sort of natural function....Its just so frikking cowardly,

    I just dont get it..

    Anyhow... all the best.

  • @GRAILKNIGHTPARZIFAL Except it's pretty lame to be completely pretentious and leave stupid statements about things as generic as negativity, introspection, and other self centered bullshit.

  • @Tripo1iSamson Wow, you really go out of your way to be negative to complete strangers on a board designed for song comments.

Stupid statement about a inspiring song are infinitely more useful then random spoutings of childish cowardly anonymous bullying.

I bet in person your a meak little kitten that is so constantly afraid,

that when given a anonymous medium like a message board you are unable to express anything -other- then the bleak desolate landscape of your personality.

  • @GRAILKNIGHTPARZIFAL I wouldn't consider being negative to complete strangers on youtube to be "going out of my way."

"Stupid statement about a inspiring song are infinitely more useful then random spoutings of childish cowardly anonymous bullying." Bullying eh?

"I bet in person your a meak little kitten that is so constantly afraid," finish that with the typical "cuz I'll whoop your ass cuz I'm an internet badass."

  • @GRAILKNIGHTPARZIFAL And I'm gonna point out pretentious stupid statements for what they are, at the cost of someone not liking my negativity for the sake of someone who thinks negative/positive is the all-encompassing directorate of opinions and observation.

  • @Tripo1iSamson

No im not a internet badass, im also not a complete fake little comment troll, that finds it easy to insult people from the safety of their computer.

The only stupid / pretentious and frankly childish comments on a songs comment section are those not relating to the song....duh

So far the only thing you contribute is childish negative moronic cowardice.

I never called myself the "all encompasing" anything, all I did was origionally post how much I like the song.

  • @GRAILKNIGHTPARZIFAL I dont get it, so you can be Mr. Longwindednegativelecturefag, but anyone else who does so needs a lecture from you? Faggot.

  • ...you're my firing squad, November. The words and music remind me of the many windy, rainy, bare and cold Novembers I knew growing up (greying up) in Minnesota.

  • fuck yeah. The Tom Waits album no one ever fucking bought. The lost album of sorts. Great song...

    Great album.

  • ...No prayers for november to linger longer...

    che uomo...grazie Tommino!

  • I love seeing stuff stuck in other stuff ... and all surrounded by stuff. Reminds me of stuff. And, how stuff is all around us.

  • Fantastic...but omg, wh@ would he be like in January!! Waits, one of the true gre@s...yea!

  • i love this song ;]

  • Nice greys. Fits the mood very well.
