  • Charles was a classic boxer. A lot of viewers may get angry at my opinion but I truly feel that Charles would have walked thru Roy Jones, Jr.. Roy had great reflexes but Charles fought in a much tougher era. Plus Charles went over 20 rounds with Marciano.

  • What a beautiful left hook from Ezzard Charles! Picture perfect shot. Thanks for the upload. It's great film footage like this that keeps the memory of the all-time great fighters alive.

  • Ezzard Charles is a Top Ten P4P all-time fighter... anybody who says otherwise doesn't know a damned thing

  • Charles is the man if he were fighting today he would be a super star.. A truely legendary fighter.

  • @myaangeline

    lol not even top 50

  • LEFT HOOK perfectly delivered

  • this proves marciano beat a man at the top of his powers!! charles was a great great fighter. there is no beter footage of him, he looks beter here than he did beating valentino, louis and wallcot. satterfield was a rated danger man he knocked out a peak cleveland wiliams years before liston. proves what a great era it was. a hot bed of talent.

  • @choklab It proves Marciano beat a very, very good fighter. I wouldn't say he faced the best Ezzard Charles, though.

His bouts with Bivins, Walcott (III & IV), Layne and Harold Johnson suggest a man on the decline.

Truly, Charles at his best weight was better than Marciano at his best weight. It's hard to argue against Marciano as the better Heavyweight, though.

  • @choklab

at the top of his powers? no fucking way. ezzard charles was like 40 when he fought rocky, with some 80 fights under his belt. also he was a light heavy.

  • @Robstailey

Charles was 33 and showing signs of wear. He lost the title 3 years before and the Rocky fights were his last hurrah.

He fought at heavyweight because he couldn't get a title shot at 175lbs. Charles had 3 wins over Archie Moore and 5 over Joey Maxim and might well be the greatest light-heavyweight of all time.

  • that Ezzard Charles's right hook was perfection

    RIP real brawlers

  • I respect the great boxers before I was born, They were the pioneers of the boxing art and are owed the respect of the youth. I have mad respect for all boxers before our time(1977).

  • Bob Satterfield was a good friend of my dad. I recall as a kid my dad and Bob talking on the street and him looking very thin. Dad told me he had cancer

Then I found out my uncle and Mr Charles lived on the same street so one day I knocked on his door, his wife answered..told me to come in and she brought him in a wheelchair. We chatted for 10 mins then I left but I never went over there again. The next I heard he had died.

So thanks for posting this fight...it brought back memories.

  • look at 0.05 ....... great shoulder roll, i wosh more guys would fight like this now

  • @vanderpant2116

check out toney's fights v. vassily jirov and iran barkley. he learned a lot from charles and took the art of slipping punches to a whole new level.

  • Ezzard Charles died in 1975 of Lou Gehrig's Disease. Former boxer and wrestler Scott LeDoux has also been diagnosed with it. On Dec. 27, 2007, my cousin died from this after she was diagnosed on May 5, 2005. Sad.

  • so is that satterfield or tommy harrison

  • This is the real Bob Satterfield.

The Tommy Harrison who fought Floyd Patterson, Ezzard Charles, Bobo Olson and Jimmy Bivins only pretended that he was Satterfield.

  • Satterfield died of cancer in 1977. Harrison from what I know is still alive.

  • Thanks for posting this. It's good to see some more of Charles, one of the most under-rated heavyweights ever.

  • thats true man, charles is vastly underated, he's a fantastic technical fighter and he was really tough also!

  • Spot on, not just an underrated heavyweight but p4p of all time in any weight division from middleweight through light heavy to heavy. His class of opponent was incomparable and he beat all the best in his prime.

  • Absolutely - he beat Archie Moore 3 times at LT HWT when Moore was in his prime and many rate Moore as the best LTHWT of all time.

  • great post.thanks
