Hector Ramerez, a tv reporter from GI Joe (the guy who gave Shipwreck a hard time that one episode) also appeared quite a few times on Jem, and Inhumaniods.
Therefore if GI Joe and TF share a universe, they must as well.
For those who don't know it here in Los Angeles,Ca the network known as Haboom has G.I.JOE AND TRANSFORMERS AND JEM playing on their network station!Cool, huh??
A year or two before this episode was conceived, Marvel Comics did a crossover with Bumblebee going into the G.I. Joe universe. I personally found it less interesting than this episode. I was very shocked and happily surprised though, to find that this episode had been done.
I also find hilarious the fact that Cobra Commander can take 2mph steps and walk 25 mph going down the road. :P
This episode is the only direct crossover minus a minor Flint cameo in another Transformers ep. But it's basically established that Transformers and GI Joe (and Jem and the Holograms, and Inhumanoids too) all take place in the same universe.
Hasbro made both the GIJoe and Trasnformer toys, so there were plenty of crossovers. In the comic books, Cobra teamed up on and off with the Decepticons. I recall recently seeing a t-shirt called the "devil duo" that showed a combo of the decepticon and cobra logo's.
Ok. I grew up watching transformers and GI Joe when they were still making new episodes. This is an interesting little vid, but I don't see any reason to suspect that it was on an ep of transformers.
yep, it's on here actually. look up 'transformers only human' in the search. Transformers season 3 took place in 2006, and that means cobra commander is 20 years older than in the joe cartoons, which were set in the 80's.
I have been watching a lot of old transformers recently and it hit me that, the person who does starscream's voice is probably the same person who did cobra commander. so now it makes even more sense, the same crew who did gi joe was involved with transformers.
@jacyonelove As a matter of fact te reason Optimus had 2 die in the movie was bcos a GI Joe character (I think it was Duke) was orignally supposed 2 die in the GI Joe film
@227060 Other way around.. they were both supose to die, but fan reaction to optimus dieing was SO huge they changed the script in gi joe to make Duke live. and they also edited the ending of the tranformer movie with stuff about "dont wory the greatess leader of all will be back"
to tightmadness: On a comment posted 8 months ago U said Cobra Commander was out Bcus of Serpentor. Incorrect. The series took place in 2006. Since all the Joe shows all follow the same continuity the events in this take place after GIJoe sigma6 during the time of GI Joe: Extreme. (Extreme story took place in 2006 like G1 TF season 3&4. This clip is proof between universal connections.)
I remember seeing this episode and cheered when he yelled COBRA!!! but felt bad when he coughed....They dont make terrorists like they used to...classic
wrong willow, a terrorist is someone who creates terror for a political agenda. It's only convenient that those outside the system are called terrorists.
Politicians generally hold some form of legitimate power. Their use of terror is not their primary method of political change and is less like to be their defining characteristic regarding the political activism.
If you want to accept a more broad definition then many of histories heroes become terrorists.
its important to understand the definition of such a powerful and nowadays common term. the vietnam war was big terror operation. the vietnamese were supporting the wrong people so we tried to terrorize it outta them.
To clear it up razorblademask is right. This episode takes place with Rodimus as leader not Optimus. So the timeline is 2005 not 1984 with Optimus. The old transformers movie from 1987 takes place in 2005 when Rodimus was still hot rod before he got the matrix. So if he already has the matrix then this is after 2005. That is why cobra commander is older that his 1984 G.I. Joe counter part.
I know that, but Like i said, Hasbro could have done a better crossover with either season 1 or season 2 of the transformers before the Unicron Movie itself since both G.I. Joe and the Transformers franchise were dubbed successful. But did Hasbro do that? No of course not, They were too busy selling stupid merchendises
What the hell gives?!! Why didn't they do a proper crossover with G.I. JOE? Hasbro owns both those stinking franchise, so don't feed me the "licensing issue" crap...
Because the Transformers storyline takes place the 2000's but the G.I. Joe storyline was set in the present at the time. Read Transformers vs. G.I. Joe if you really want to see a crossover.
FYI razorblademask, The Autobots and The Decepticons came online in year 1984. So don't feed me your Bullshit about The Transformers taking place the 2000's.
Bullshit? You really don't know them then. The cartoon started then, but the timeline wasn't 1984, it was the 2000's. Get your facts straight, then try to argue.
"More Than Meets the Eye" pilot/mini-series The pilot introduced Optimus Prime's Autobots and Megatron's Decepticons, transplanting them from their metallic homeworld of Cybertron to Earth. Four million years pass. It is the year 1984, and volcanic activity stirs the half-buried Ark, awakening the computer systems aboard. Teletraan I sends out a Sky Spy satellite to reconnoiter this new world, and scans examples of terrestrial machinery in order to reformat the Transformers into new alt modes.
I wasn't taking about this one, Hasbro could have done a better one with either season 1 or season 2 of the transformers before the Unicron Movie itself.
I concur with Shadowhawk, like what Marvel comics did by crossing over G.I. Joe and Transformers, a televised crossover done the same way would've been both a money making experience for Hasbro and a landmark event.
I'm glad they didn't crossover. The "cartoon" Transformers would have wiped out the entire G.I. Joe and Cobra forces (see Megatron's Masterplan). The great thing about the early t.v. Transformers was that humans couldn't beat the Transformers. This was different in the "comic book" Transfomers who were punks.
Because GI JOE also took place in the 1980's, same time as the early episodes of transformers.
Transformers the movie narration declared that it took place in 2005 (where hot rod got the matrix and became rodimus prime), and season 3 declared the year was now 2006, which is when this transformers episode takes place.
In other words, Cobra Commander is 20+ years older than he was in the time of the gi joe episodes.
And wait a minute, I never said about their activation in my original comment. I said what time period this storyline took place. It is in fact the year 2006 in this episode hence Rodimus being in there.
Like i said, Hasbro could have done a better crossover with either season 1 or season 2 of the transformers before the Unicron Movie itself since both G.I. Joe and the Transformers franchise were dubbed successful. But did Hasbro do that? No of course not, They were too busy selling stupid merchendises.
to give you the benifit of the dought the original transformers the movie took place in the year 2000 so did season 3 and 4.season 1 and 2 was based in 1984

@PatrikPanik I knew they sounded alike!!I knew it!!If they crossed over in the comics, why didn't they do a movie together back then??odd huh??Marvel had the rights to them both you know??
Flint sort of made a cameo in "The Killing Jar" well, a hologram of him made by a Quintesson was used to lure Autobot ally Merissa Fairbourne into a trap. Merissa was the daughter of Flint and Lady Jaye. Flint's name wasn't spoken but he LOOKED like a 60-something Flint and had the same voice actor.
This also shows that over the time since the events of the Mass Device and weather Dominator Cobra commander has gotten smarter because he is not in jail like Destro, Baroness, Major Bludd and the others of the Cobra Terrorist group
Just shows he was smarter than people gave him credit. He just got fed up with people questioning his orders (guess he got the last laugh). Note CC is wearing Serpentor's gauntlets as a trophy.
That or the script or whatnot saying they were meant to be gloves with the fingers worn out, as I read somewhere. Doesn't quite go together with his "This is the world, Mr. Draft. Everything is for sale" mentality earlier, and presumably getting paid a lot and regularly for his technological know-how.
Yeah, despite how the rest of the Cobra insulted him, called him names and laughed at him(especially after Serpentor took over), it looks like Cobra Commander had the last laugh on both them and GI Joe because he was never captured. I doubt that he will ever want to break them out.
the events of the Transformers movie where Optimus Prime dies happens in 2005 and this episode happens in 2006 to where it shows that the Cobra terrorist group has been dissolved and Cobra Commander goes by the name Old Snake to hide his true self from all police.
I can tell you is with the way the time table goes between the G.I.Joe and Transformers shows is the events of the first two seasons of Transformers are the same times as the G.I.Joe episodes but then after the events of G.I.Joe the movie the DIC episodes take over and they change cobra commander back from a snake and then by the time of the end of the DIC episodes it would be like 1993.
True as Both Starscream and Cobra Commander. I only wish they did a Transformers/GI Joe Crossover Television Series Since It was done with the comics.
You never know, they will no doubt try to capitalize on the sucess of the 2007 "Transformers" movie, and bringing in G.I. Joe might lead to two movie series.
do you know that cobra is snake,it was a member of daft punk electro group,he left the group for a misteryous reason in 1995,GUY-MANUEL DE HOMEM-CHRISTO AND THOMAS BANGALTER(daft punk) appears in theyr film interstella 5555(see high life song in youtube),and snake appears in the 3rd episode of transformers, they 3 look like robots, right?
Well you have to understand CC is in his late 60's here. One could argue the Operation Dragonfire treatment wasn't 100% effective too. But when the animated GI Joe movie was written they really didnt care much for continuity and ignored CC still being human 20 years in the future.. Also note that in the "Weather Dominator" miniseries the back of CCs head was shown and he was a bald white guy with no eyes all over his head. The right hand didnt know what the left was doing at SUNBOW.
Wait if this episode is in the future and G.I.Joe took place before this one then how does this chronologically fit I thought the last time we saw Cobra Commander is when he was mutated into a snake in the G.I.Joe Movie
watch G.I. joe dic series when they turned cobra commander back to semi-human form(he looked like then when he was running from cobra la with roadblock)
watch G.I. joe dic series when they turned cobra commander back to semi-human form(he looked like then when he was running from cobra la with roadblock)
Since this is a Season 3 episode, it would conceivably take place after 2005 (assuming that G.I. Joe took place in the 80s), which would certainly explaina way Cobra Commander's advanced age.
Was this episode released before the G.I. Movie? That could also explain why he's human here, as the CC becoming a snake idea wouldn't have formed.
Classic! I remember watching this episode repeating to myself, "That sounds like Cobra... nahhhh, they recycle voices that's all." When the episode ended I jumped for joy just off of the idea of it.
I'm sure he'd try to scam the society out of any money possible out of (lack of) principle(s) alone. Even if you rather expect selling hi-tech secrets to current criminals to pay well.
"An aged Cobra Commander (the series is set in the then-future of 2006), going by the alias of "Old Snake", is approached by crime lord Victor Drath, who wishes to purchase synthoid technology, as seen in some episodes of the G.I. Joe cartoon series. Cobra Commander transfers the minds of Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Arcee and Springer into synthoid bodies, leaving their robotic shells for Drath's use in his crimes."

Wait if this episode is in the future and G.I.Joe took place before this one then how does this chronologically fit I thought the last time we saw Cobra Commander is when he was mutated into a snake in the G.I.Joe Movie
mgk22 5 years ago
watch G.I. joe dic series when they turned cobra commander back to semi-human form(he looked like then when he was running from cobra la with roadblock)

wat season is it

Since this is a Season 3 episode, it would conceivably take place after 2005 (assuming that G.I. Joe took place in the 80s), which would certainly explaina way Cobra Commander's advanced age.
Was this episode released before the G.I. Movie? That could also explain why he's human here, as the CC becoming a snake idea wouldn't have formed.

You have it right. This ep was before the movie. SUNBOW was primarily concerned with pushing toys rather than telling coherent stories.

Classic! I remember watching this episode repeating to myself, "That sounds like Cobra... nahhhh, they recycle voices that's all." When the episode ended I jumped for joy just off of the idea of it.

This was the one where Cobra Commander turned Ultra magnus, Springer and I forget who else into humans.

Only Human, Starscreams Ghost and Ghost in the Machine, were the only decent post movie episodes.
Due to the fact Chris could use his Starscream/Cobra Commander voice again.
Oh and 5/5 for the video.

I wonder if he was collecting social security?
fronio88 4 years ago
