@paperweightgirl Lyne, I would have thought that Downchild would have played Suds periodically back in the 70's and 80's. But you would have had to be of legal drinking age to get in (:->
@aldiakaroofus I don't recall which of the Downchild LP's actually sold the most Aldi. "Straight Up" may have had the closest thing to hits, although I recall the "So Far" LP selling very well as it was a Greatest Hits comp.
I've never heard The Downchild Blues Band before, but yes, The Blues Brothers did covers of "Almost" and "Flip, Flop, & Fly" on the "Briefcase Full Of Blues" album, one of my favorites.
@bluenazz Wow! You've never seen the film? A classic! Highly recommended. Lots of action, comedy, car chases, and great music! One of my all-time favorite movies! I saw it at the theater when it came out in 1980! Unfortunately that movie theater closed down years ago, and it is a church now.
@astrosafari727 I've seen bits of the film Jeff but never the whole enchilada. I guess that movie theatre that is now a church is still full of "soul music" (:->
My favorite album for getting me out of bad funks is Briefcase Full Of Blues by the one and only Blues Brothers. As soon as I saw your title "Downchild Blues Band" I thought of Belushi giving the band a shout out on the album before they went into the song. I think it was either 'Almost' or 'Flip, Flop and Fly'. The Blues Brothers just did every song on that live album superbly.
I am going to check out some of the some of the DBB songs. Another well informed Canadian record series.
@kissarmy110936 The RCA Best Buy series were good pressings, although they were not "original" runs. They used the same masters and vinyl as the original pressings, I would guess. The KTel LP's would squeeze about 10 songs on each side and that wasn't particularly good.
damn, you should do radio with that voice, incredible. A friend has played with a few of these guys over the years at Grossmans as part of the house band at their open mic nights. Downchild were playing Grossmans and those guys from Second City were hanging out there, I think it's stated these guys were the influence and were playing along with them there circa maybe Godspell?
@DoctorDeadwax I've heard of Grossmans Tavern but I've never in been there. I regret now that I wasn't a clubber back in the 70's when I had the opportunity. Especially in the late 70's when the whole New Wave thing was happening in T.O. I was a family guy by then (:-> I'm sure the Second City crowd were hanging out with Downchild though. And a lot of the music came out of the Hair/Godspell/Jesus Christ Superstar casts.
@DoctorDeadwax So I'm in the Spadina and College Street area and pull out my digital camera and do this big thing on the El Mo and Grossmans where I talk about the Blues Brothers and Jeff Healey and BB Gabor (not sure about Rough Trade) and I walk into Grossman's Tavern and there isn't a single living soul in there! I go on and on about the best blues can on the continent with so much history...and there isn't even a cockroach in there to greet me. Anticlimactic or what?
Never heard of the band before, and yet they have a lot of records.

I've seen "Straight Up" often in used record stores. Must be their best selling album.

I'm loving your Canadian series. I wouldn't have necessarily known how much I wanted these records before.

@TheZeekgeek1 LOL! I wouldn't recommend all of these Canadian LP's Zeek, especially the Tony DeFranco...
