it sounds both sad and optimistic ... some parts even make you feel agony and deep sorrow ... ! but it's like something happens suddenly and shows a drop of hope for a forbidden love to blossom and survive .. like Romeo and Juliet's love ... ! So I think that is the most suitable song to describe the feelings in this epic scene .. the balcony scene ,,
I've listened to this so many times since I heard it on Classic FM and just had to find out what it was. Beautiful. One of the most moving pieces of music I've heard in years.
I wish the annoying sample from the movie wasn't on the end though, gets on my nerves a bit.
@worldaccordingtodunk Nah I hate it, samples from the movie should never go on the soundtrack in my view, its irritating to my ears. That, and Shakespeare in an American accent? No thanks! :-)
@hammyzone I couldn't echo this comment enough. I also heard it whilst listening to classical fm by chance in 2009 whilst working at Catterick Racecourse. It was snowing heavily and this came on, I was immediately entranced by this piece of music and my immediate surroundings. A truly wonderful piece of music
@Lavezzi Actually it was myself Tim Atack and Des'ree who composed this. Listen to Kissing you and you'll see that Balcony scene is a musical work based on that song.

love this so much, i want this to be playing at the start of my wedding and i want to walk in with my dad at the bit at 1.07...whats weird is that im only 15
thank you so much craig armstrong for writng this beautiful piece, i am truly grateful
I got into my Jeep the other day, turned on the radio, and I guess I heard from about 2 mins in till the end... This piece of music left me in tears, it seemed so wonderfully beautiful in a world that seems so dark right now... Amazing piece of music...
@RAWRmeghanx3 Yes it was used in the Leo Dicaprio/Clare Danes (Baz Lurhman) film, formed the basis to the song Kissing You by Desree, (also used in the film!)
I could swear that I've died and am ascending to heaven when I hear this music, I too remember it when it was used for the euro 2004 trailer, I was but only 13 at the time...yet this song left such a strong imprint mentally in me...I didn't know the name but would constantly look out for it...
When I finally found the name of the song, I just couldn't help but listen to it over and over...i know listen in moderation as else it can be depressing, such a powerful song.
wow ... 4:38 till 5:00 got me a tear and goosebumps !! its soo beautifull.. you will get the same feeling if you really live for music ! this song desirves more viewers and thumps up!
I started by listening to drum and bass, then clicked on videos to the right. I went from drum and bass, to dubstep, to reggae dubstep, to reggae, to jazz, and now to sad music like this. I love the suggestions bar, never know where you'll end up if you click enough.
in 2004 in the uk this music was used by the bbc as a trailer for euro 2004 football finals they used the section 4:38 - 5:01 alongside a series of photos of the top players at the time . Lovely music and the lanscape picts melt perfectly with the great craig armstrong piece .
I have a request Mr Armstrong. Please remove your statement "Nothing clever, nothing special". This is outstandingly beautiful and I say we can't get too much of that in this world. Thank you for creating this and sharing this. You needn't "hope" people will enjoy this either.
@xxkewldudexx I got these pics from varies different websites. They are all desktop wallpapers i have saved on my PC. Best going into google and typing HD 1680x1050 (or your screen resoution) wallpapers and looking through the websites.
We're studying Romeo and Juliet in English and we had to watch this film... I came so close to crying at the end... :'( Now I am alone and can cry to my heart's content...
This has to be favourite piece of music in the world...was played at my mum's funeral last year as it was also her favourite piece too. I hope i can live life to my maximum potential just like my mother. Love you with all my heart and i miss you dearly xxxxxxxxxx
im still in love, im so in love, i never met love quite before, until i saw your face, and watching stars without you, my soul cries..my heathing heart, is full of pain, when we're appart, the aching ... iiiiiiiiimmmmmm Kiiiiiisssiiiinnnngggg youuuuuu ...
No seriously, 4.22 marks the beginning of perhaps the most heartbreaking but stirring musical progression ever written, the effect it has never tires and I love it.
Ahhh the pains of love... they're the best kind if you ask me. It's horrible when you go through them, but it's much better than just go through life without feeling anything. Only the weak off themselves because of a broken heart.
