The music from this movie is amazing -- the instrumentals in this clip, Khan's vocals later -- it's all excellent. I'd like to hear more. Is it available as a "soundtrack" album or CD? I think this is the best movie ever made anywhere.

A good film; well acted; subtle and understated as with all Satyajit Ray films.......good camera work, plot and direction.

There is no awful background music to emphasize dramatic effect. Why can't Bollywood directors watch and copy this style......why didn't Bollywood offer work to Satyajit Ray?

I found it! From a spirited exchange in The Illustrated Weekly of India, 1978, between Ray and one Rajbans Khanna. Involving the historical authenticity of the film. In 6:21 the King is leading a Moharram Procession, otherwise called Azdari--the Indian version of the Shia mourning for Imam Hussein's martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala. 1977 was the last time it was allowed in Lucknow because it was always an occasion for Hindu/Muslim rioting.

Thats a shame; You know Hindu Muslim rivalry only came to the fore under the rule of the British Raj, and then intensified there after as independence drew closer, and the Partition of India in 1947 by the British.

actually they weren't hindu-muslim riots but were shia-sunni riots...some hindus used to participate in the moharram procession

thats how we roll in Lucknow..kites/pigeons ..its a typical royal thing to do..we also breed/fly pigeons..we also do cock/bataer fight once in a while. ...this movie is awesome.
