@TheForester101 Congrats on the Class 1. I have spent a lot of time on here trying to get an idea of how controls , etc work on trucks, etc. Hope my video helped. If you have any questions or would like to see something just drop me a line and i will see what i can do. Take care from BC.
thank you for the insight of one of these trucks. Tomorrow I start driving a tri axle dump for the first time and this vid helps to see whats going on in there. not sure what model I will operate but I am sure it is a similar process
I was looking on youtube for videos of dump controls prior to running one myself. Didn't find any so i figure once i started doing it, i should post some videos of it. So far they turned out okay. Thanks for the comment. Good luck. Nothing like getting thrown in the deep end and learning as you go.
deep end with a weight tied to the ankles....I got there in the morning and the boss threw the keys at me, gave me the address for the dump site and said "I'll see you when you get back" I did ok on an old International. My day was fun...my camara ran out of power when I was recording but I will post a response video tomorrow.
I had that comment when i had to learn the loader and the backhoe. I was told, you will have to load yourself as you are the only one working Saturdays, so go out and start learning. I was shown the controls then set out on my own in the yard. I actually like it this way as you only learn by doing. I look forward to seeing your video. Glad you enjoyed it.
loaded the video. tried to do it as a respons vid but dont know what happened. even the info didnt take right. the name is dump truck vid 001. let me know of any insight even though you cant really get it wrong right?
I actually like the truck overall. The controls are smooth and work great. The only thing i don't like is that from my point of view it's under powered for the gearing/trans it has. It is a 300 with a 8LL trans. Just my opinion though. Comfortable inside though.
Ive heard from a bunch of Slegg guys the Sterling trucks are a cheap Ford Louisville substitute. Cheaply shoddily built they say. Just 3rd hand info, I wouldn't know. Looks new and shiny to me, like all of Michells gear. Hey theyve been hauling asphalt over here a lot on the Juniper project to Island Asphalt by the way. I would have said more but I think you just work weekends.
I don't know about cheaply built. My only complaint is the fact that the horsepower just isn't there. I don't know what goes on during the week as you are right, i only do Saturdays. I notice tar on one of the trucks when i was doing pre-trip the other weekend. Oh and yes all their trucks do look shinny and new.
I like the tarp controls, my brother's ex-Pete still had the best layout, dash mounted electric PTO and 3 Danco handles like yours and air switches for the truck and pony tarps.
The other one i drive sometimes is better, like the one you are talking about, just one air switch for the tarp. That works well. No dash pto though. I can't complain as it isn't like the old days when driver confort wasn't at the top of the list.
thanks

@TheForester101 No problem. I will try and get a video of the controls on a Mack truck in the next week or so.

hydraulic gates pretty cool, closes quietly instead of slamming every time.
