Man, that must be pretty old clip, any idea which year? Beautiful song. (I don't know what that guitar is, it looks like the Rick Turner guitars made in Santa Cruz CA)
i had the pleasure of seeing Garaj Mahal at the Strip Mines Festival this summer, and ever since then Fareed has been a major inspiration to me in my playing. this video only deepens my respect for the man, even with that urkel look
Re: Urkel. I kow what you mean. I'd only seen a couple vids since this aired and was shocked at the ass-kicking Garaj Mahal delivered last weekend. HEAVY fusion. Nothing like the the more polite stuff I was used to.
I saw them at a small jam band fest in rural Ohio (Tabfest). They covered a lot of ground musically speaking, but managed to keep the tie dye girls on the dance floor.
This type of music comes from the very core of the deepest and most sincere passion for sound embedded in the depth of man's soul. This is a fine example of what music is all about and the infinite appreciation for it!
Fareed Haque on acoustic guitar, David Sanborn on sax, Hiram Bullock on electric guitar, Sting on bass, Jools Holland on keyboards, Don Alias on percussion, and Omar Hakim on drums
One correction: That's Phillipe Saisse on keyboards, not Jules Holland. Although he was co-host the first season, I don't think they every actually let Jules play with any of the bands. Then in the second season they canned him. He was really bad at interviewing the guests.
I do not understand why people comment, then respond to their own comments. Why is this so common on youtube now?

The second song, where the band joins in, is "Missing You' from Fareed Haque's excellent 1989 CD "Manresa" .

Pretty composition. Sadly, I missed see this show on TV when it aired back in the late 80s. :(

The first one is Venezuelan Waltz #3...one of my favorite compositions ever. Sting is a fan too. ;) Oh, and nice mustache.

Sanborn is playing (the rare) sopranino saxophone, an Eb instument tuned a 5th higher than the Bb soprano sax...for anyone interested!

This is wonderful. I'd like to know the names of the other musicians (other than Sting). Is that Omar Hakim on drums?
