Now my question to all my pakistani friends who claim to know so much on this topic is;

How did this mullah (who by the way lost one eye during soviet war) with 50 odd talibs, old kalashnikovs, no tactical knowledge and no money to begin with made taliban the potent power it is today ?How did ahmed shah's rule in kabul toppled? as the taliban did not exist before 91 & america became indifferent to the region after 89, then who created taliban?

The group clearly did not have the manpower,tactical power,financial power and ammunitions to fight other relatively powerful warlords within afghanistan. The most powerful of these being the group led by ahmed shah masood, the son of a former afghan army officer, whose brilliant tactical moves proved instrumental in the war against the soviets.He led the strongest group within afghanistan composed of pashtuns ,uzbeks and tajiks called the northern alliance. He ruled kabul & adjoining regions.

Once during this period the mullah of a mosque in an afghanistani town, was approached by the locals against the warlord who committed several injustices on citizenry. The mullah killed the warlord. he became instant hero and soon formed a group of talibs(students) from local mosques. The group had about 50 members & some relatively old weaponry(mainly old kalashnikovs) left over from the soviet war.

Those who think america created Taliban are deeply mistaken. america created mujahideens with the help of ISI & finances from american government & Saudi petro dollers. They won against soviets and soon forgot afghanistan. Then started civil war in afghanistan between various groups many of which fought the war against the soviets.The leader of One such group was ahmed shah masood. This happened between 1989-91. Taliban was still nowhere in picture.

Pakistan today is the only country through which the US is able to send its military supplies to Afghanistan. 90% of the cargo comes to Karachi and is then sent by road. Without it the US is crippled.
