If you belong to a group that shows when you were last on-line, it's helpful to be able to hide this info. As was the case for me when I was being stalked by a lunatic late last year. I wanted to keep as much of my activity as I could to myself... :-) (thankfully *all* of his avatars were finally deleted by the Lindens, he must have upset them too...)
The problem I had with this before I realized the new option... it had automatically hidden some groups, as I recall it was mostly or only the ones I created.
Only later I saw the new checkbox and knew to check through the list and unhide the ones it hid by default which I think shouldn't have happened when the feature got introduced.
Since you always see all groups in your own profile some people might have the same situation and not know that some of their groups are not showing to people.

Worsed feature ever. Now people can be a member of some form of terrorist group (PatriotNigras for instance) and allow them to plan attacks more organised nastyness inworld.
Also for my club its a bad thing, as I can nolonger be certain im keeping out the people I dont want. (Child roleplay, Escorts, etz.)
This doesn't hide that a group EXISTS, and if you go into search you can look up any group and see it's members. It just keeps you from snooping through someone's profile to know where they spend their time. It's none of your business the places I go.
How can I hide the tag they put over your head?

So Easy! Thanks!
Another Great Tutorial!
Now if you can just get SL to revert to work with the previous Quicktime version for Windows 2k Users. I don't want to use a bloated XP just for SL!
Love your tutorials tho!
Thanks Torley!

I doubt that. It's useful for cleaning your profiles up. I've got alot of vendor groups being a designer that I don't like to spam my profile with.
It's a good feature.

If youre a filthy hooker looking for work, I do NOT want you in my club. THATS why I think this feature is a stinking heap of annoyance.
