They are known as Red Backs here in Australia and we have the fuckers everywhere. You're bound to find them chilling in old discarded tyres or sheds, even under the roof which extends over my verandah (in their hundreds.) There's no getting rid of them. They don't worry me though just leave the bastards alone and they won't harm you.
@Nezzizzle Yo, i live in an area were theres both. You rarely see them but you should be cautious when you do.. most people think black widow and brown recluse are small, but they are actually large. just a tip!
Good your fighting what you fear. There are spiders that have even worse venom than widows like the sand spider, Brazilian wandering spider, Syndey funnel web, hobo spider and white tail.
Man no lie at all I used to catch these mother fuckers then collect them I even brang that shit to skool to show my teacher and shit I let her have it then she gave it to some type of lab or something
Im glad we dont have black widows or any venemous ones in canada..i hate spiders and i wouldnt even imagine having those in my backyard...how the hell you guys can even think about having a bbq in the summer or just sittin down on the grass or even sleeping at night...wowww
Hey I live in Bakersfield too, there's alot of black widows in my backyard and I kinda have a phobia of spider so some I might go to valley plaza to cool down after seeing a spider.
@YourConscience360 Try watchin it, and a moth comes flying passed your face and next thing you know, it's crawling on your neck... I screamed like a lil girl... lol...
There is only one advice kill them. Anyway you seems to be allergic to the poison from that spider. I guess its like when you are allergic to poison from a wasp. I had a sting from a normal wasp few year ago. After 15 min i had fear of death. After another 15 min there was nothing and i was fine. I was not allergic to the poison and didnt have a big red spot from the sting, but it wasnt a nice experience.
Black Widows are surprisingly friendly. I kept one for quite some time. it did not show any aggression at all. Though it does not like other spiders :/
@ChaoticHeretic well i thought since it was a female it would be interested in mating... She ate the male spiders :/ She is very friendly to me and my pet cat. i noticed that one of his fangs is gone. not sure if thats holding it back from biting us but i have fun. Especially scary the living crap out of my friends xD
Is it bad that I keep trying to get spiders addicted to nicotine? I trap them in a glass or something, and breathe cigarette smoke in there with them...
i used to start feeling a heart attack when seeing black widows... and most other spiders now i hunt them with my handy dandy lighter and hair spray! kaspsshhhhhhh burn nigga burn i killed about 50 in a day i never see them in my backyard since the egg sacks burn to :)
@fatgreenguy1 heart attack brought on by fear is the main way people die when bitten by them. their venom really isn't that potent. you need to fear fear itself in this case...
when i was at home and i set my sandwich down a black widow crawled into it and when i saw legs on my sandwich i was like wtf??????? a walking sandwich no
yes, you can find them under old stuff like a shed if u have old stuf like a 1960 oval or sum thing ud def find one underneath i had this bug thing that were u put it and it cant gte out, cant bite you or attack you so what i did was stare at it and whta it dd was bite the thing and i saw posion come out of its fangs
I understand his fear for it after being bitten, but! black widows do NOT attack unless you are invading their web/space. They will defend their web. Black widows do NOT bite you without purpose, in fact, they try to avoid people. Now, on the other hand, the brown widow, or button spider, won't defend their web as much. I have a black widow as a pet. If you go around sticking your hands in dark, dusty places surely you should expect the possibility of being bitten by something.
The brown recluses are a pain, if they bite you they have a necro toxin (?) that causes the skin around the wound to decay and turn black, which is painful. :( My mom was bitten by one.
@bonafiedjay dont smash them movie them :( i know there scary im scared shitless off them i got bit by a wolfspider the sting was intense as fuck but i still prefer to move them rather than kill them, imagine if we were as tiny as spiders and black widows were 400 times our size and killed us when we werent bothering them just for fun/out of fear, it would suck!
I once saw one at Redlands Univ in CA at the top of a round light pole, similar to that traffic signal. Pleasant thought that they can climb up damn near anything. I was looking up at a jet and it caught my eye, it was fat. A few years later, in my painting class, I pulled a canvas that was leaning against the wall and it made a tearing sound. A BW had built a web between the canvas and the wall. It rushed out at my fingers and it splatted when I dropped the canvas.
the house we just bought was vacant for a year (or more) and the entire house was completly filled with black widows and brown recluses, (i live in kansas) we had the whole house sprayed, but im still scared and im getting more scared the more videos i watch, anyone that can provide some info, please do!

We'll the ground had alot of dead grass and the time was like 7:00 p.m. sp they were just coming out. The black widows would go in, what i think are snake holes. Then come out and get there food, or me. Anyways, i'm also scared of them. I can pick up almost any other spider but i get a werid chill when i see one...
i live in swfl and their pretty common but im terrified by them. at the same time they are extremly interesting to me and i just watch them cause their such monsters to me.
My mother was bitten 4 times by a black widow spider on her abdomen when she was 6 months pregnant with me. The told her that it was unlikely that I'd live and a miracle that the both of us did because it was so near her chest. I'm the only one in my family not afraid of spiders. I spent my whole childhood waiting for my Spiderman powers to kick in LOL.
Quit killing innocent spiders NL, you're racking up bad karma! (Funny video - my brother wouldn't even be able to watch it.)

I've been bit by one of these and only felt sick for a couple days. My mother has been bitten and didn't get sick at all.
These spiders are actually known to give 'warning bites' to things they know are not prey...but only if you are lucky.
Can you blame them? If I had to live in a world with creatures 5,000 times the size of me; I'd want a defense mechanism, too.
