I personally use the Canon HV40 & the Canon 7d .. Even though the hv40 is older , I still love it .. It's just something about it .. I also use the GoPro & Kodak PlaySport.. But they r more for underwater or outdoorsy /shaky shit ..
Ok the one shot with the bee in the flower, that was epic. And you got all these shots just from playing with the cameras functions right out of the box? I'm getting one tomorrow so I myself can't wait to run around and see what I can get during test runs. Your shots are amazing.
@meheh "Whatever" is not an argument. Whatever is what people say when they realize they have no argument to make. That's why you hear it used a lot by junior high kids.
@moonrice555 Whatever is what somebody says when they are wasting their time being teacher to whiny people who think they are owed everything in life rather than working for it themselves. Stop being lazy. Go pick up a fucking camera and play around with it rather than sitting on your ass asking people how they do it.
I just bought a used hv30 and decided to check it's real-life capabilities by looking on YouTube. I can't wait to get it in my hands. You have done some really cool stuff.
goodnight. My name is andre varela. was born and live - in Brazil-Manaus-Amazonas. I have 35 years. I finally got the money to buy equipment and make cinematic image capture. I'm a huge doubt if I purchase a 16mm camera of film or digital equipment buy 20 or 40 .... hv noticed that they are all great ... My intention is just to capture images and sound collar background documentary style perhaps I can capture in HV40 in 24 pe ... then move to 35mm what you think. thank you.
@meheh does it have a focus ring // way you can manually adjust the focus by turning the lens ? this video is ridiculously beautiful and awesome by the way!
@meheh Wow! Super quick reply! lol. Well I'm actually SUPER new to video cameras that are this amazing lol so that sounds fine to me. I'm just looking for a HD video camera that has autofocus but then also manual focus. Because it's just awesome when you focus onto something in the background and then bring the focus back to the foreground yourself! Just incase you do know of any, can you recommend me any other cameras with focus scrollers?
@AppChat The HV40 is the only one with a scroller that I can think of. If you can, look for a camera with the focus ring...they are always going to be the best. also, my camera ins't even real Hd. It's fake HD, hehe. I don't know many model numbers, but I suggest just doing a lot of research to find the right one. :)
@meheh Lol ok, thank you! By the way I subscribed, you are just fantastic! All the shots are just great in this but I am particularly interested in one shot though, well curious - at 0:48 did you literally just hold the camera at the ground and then lifted up or do you use like a special tripod thing lol. It looks so cool! I know you can get weird golf club like attachments lol i
@meheh Clever! I thought it may be something like that because the tripod just makes it that much more stable. Gah, and the music of this video is so beautiful too! All so amazing! Ok well I should probably stop taking up all this space commenting lol :P haha thanks so much for answering and again, you rock :D
@meheh sweet.. just awesome! I have to get one of this... but would you tell me what's better for short films and semipro stuff? the HV30 or the HV40?
did u use a 35mm lens adapter? The shallow depth of field looks amazing and un-digital! also, this had to be 24p right? or just some nice editing, either way the image looks really good.
I'm sorry, I'm new to the technical side of filming, and I just want to know, with the slow motion, do you have to slow it down in post, in a program like after-effects, or can you achieve the slow motion without editing? Please help :)
It depends on what you want to do. The HV30 and Hv40 are pretty much the same. They both do the trick very well. If you want to shoot in 24p then get the HV40.
this is great. i have an HV40 and it the only thing i don't like is how small that focus ring is. also, what editing software do you use. this slow motion looks so clean and the frames don't seem to blend as much as mine always do. what other settings did you use for this?
This is such a fantastic video. Unlike other test vids, this one never comes across as cheezy or pretentious and proves that everything looks cooler in slowmo. Great choice of music, as well. And the shot of the bee flying out of the flower? Fucking unreal.
MAN THAT IS THE MOST AMAZING HV20/30/40 VIDEO I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! I have an HV20 myself and am just now starting to learn more and more about it. this looks absolutely amazing. shows what the little guy can do. i have one, but i don't use it very often. after seeing this, i plan to do a lot more wit it.
Did you use any post-processing, filters extra objectives etc? just wanna know how you got those great colors in the first cloudscene for example. Or is it just that great natural colors in this cam?
I just change the speed in the editing. This was my first test, so the slow motion didn't turn out as great as my recent videos. Thank you for checking my videos out!
S100 has the sharpest picture of all your choices. The HV series records to tape and has more of a film-like quality. It records in MPEG-2 which most decent computers can handle for editing, AVCHD can demand more from your computer.

Wow... It's great to see someone who can take this camera and push it to the fullest extent of its capabilities and do it all without any modifications. Bare bones is the way to go dude. Looks like I'll be passing on that 35mm adapter for now...
I have an hv 20, and I got to say it still takes great video. What a great camera...

Wow... It's great to see someone who can take this camera and push it to the fullest extent of its capabilities and do it all without any modifications. Bare bones is the way to go dude. Looks like I'll be passing on that 35mm adapter for now...

I don't use 24p mode. I think it'd pointless.

For me it is. Plus, I render in 24 anyway, so it doesn't matter if I use it or not.
