this is a ylod issue only it doesn't yellow light. reflow with liquid flux and LET IT COMPLETELY COOL DOWN. after that you'll be good to go, at least till your next ylod. otherwise have the rsx chip and the cell chip reballed, if you're gonna do one of them you might as well do the other. my 60 gb phat did this after 3 ylod heatgun fixes with no flux. applied flux and reflowed again and voila.. no probs in 6 + months.

1. Give your ps3 LOTS of air space around it.

2. Dont put oily or dirty disc's into the system .

3. Dont play for to long and take 15 minute breaks every now and then . (8 hours at most)

If you do these things your ps3 will last a LONG time mine has lasted for about 3 years and still running perfectly .Better than buying a new xbox 360 every year.

The SAME THING happened to me!

But then I opened the thing, applied AS5 cooling compound, and put two quarters on the heat-sink-y-screw-things (for more pressure) and then I left it on Folding@Home all night to test it and it worked fine. Then I started playing some music and the graphics started doing that shit again. I think I might have to take a heatgun to it.

yes. i was playing CoD4 and it went to the kill cam when the screen just started having green boxes everywhere. i turned it off then back on and the screen did the same thing again. i turned it on again several times over 1 day periods just for it to do the same thing over and over again.
