True Blue, Mate! Who gives a toss if there's an extra 'L' here or there, not a biggy writing badly if you get the friggin' context! Now grow some hair, stop ur boring whinging, grab a heavy & go wank ur chain! Slang is alive- always changing melding and recreating itself- it's a bugger the idiot box only uses Politically Correct jargon- mostly yanky crap- when Aussie vocab is so much lighter, brighter and drop-ur-guts funny! Well done for creating this vid, mate! Fuck the small pricked wankers!
No use saying "I'm Aussie and I haven't heard this" you grew up in the city, that's why you haven't heard it. Some Aussies don't like Vegemite either, doesn't make it any less Australian.
@tahnaleigh I agree, before you shoot your mouth off people, get your bloody facts right first. Aussie slang is so diverse and what is written on this page is only scratching the surface. If you haven't heard it or said it doesn't mean it doesn't exist or isn't being said. Life doesn't evolve around you, you are only one generation, these sayings have been said and created generations before you all over the country. I can't understand why people are arguing over this page.
@fjeopgjde Exactly, I wonder how many of these people can tell me what a Cobber is. Haha I said the same thing in another comment, "the reason you haven't heard Australian slang is because you live in the city." It very much exists whether they like it or not. Good to see some people agree and know what they're talking about. :)) It's not worth the argument, let them bask in their pretend glory of being know it alls. Silly Galah's :))
Yes, there is slang in Australia, but to find the full fledged Aussie slangers you need to go to the country, or smaller country towns. It does exist mildly in the cities and I know because I am a business woman in Sydney and use a lot of slang sayings. But that is because I grew up half my life in the country and am 7th generation Australian.
Thanks HalfEatenDimSim for keeping the Aussie slang alive : )
@tahnaleigh Most of the people on here seem to think that everything evolves around them. They think they know all about Aussie slang, and if they don't know it, it doesn't exist. I bet most of them are city slickers which proves my point : )
Can you imagine saying half of these things to someone from India or China etc, they wouldn't understand a thing you were saying. So.. enough of the "we don't say that here crap here" because somewhere in Australia these slang phrases are being said, or have been said, its just sad that as the generations pass down this slang is diminishing. So.. for our overseas friends who are reading, sorry for the un called for arguing on this page.
My dad and his dad and so forth use to talk in slang all the time. When I lived in the country you speak in slang, end of story. However living in capital cities half the people don't know what you're talking about. I often say things and people look at my funny and I have to remember where I am. Now, for the youth of today that mainly live in cities the main reason you won't hear half of this slang is because we are very multicultural.
just because you haven't heard of it or don't say it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Yes, most of us don't say half of these things but you have to remember these slang terms have been generated in different states for over 200 years, so unless you have lived that long and have lived in all those states then you probably won't know most of them. Plus... they are a generational and sadly due to multiculturalism over the last 50 years or so it is sadly dying out.
not for you to have a spit because you're uneducated in Australian slang. But what you have done by not having a laugh with the rest of us and by carrying on is make us all look like idiots. What HalfEatenDimSim has said is this is some Australian Slang, so if you visit Australia you might like to learn some of it. And what half of you uneducated Australians have done is shoot him down. Now....what he has written is Australian slang, that is fact,
I have to do this in several comments as my response it too large.
As an Australian who has travelled and has grown up in several states of Australia, both cities and the bush, I would like to say a few things. Firstly thank you to HalfEatenDimSim for putting this on youtube. It made me laugh and brought a smile to my face. Most the people who have made comments on here are missing the point, this is put on here mainly for our international friends,
This is a load of crap. And badly spelled crap at that. Not all these expressions are Australian. About 99 percent of Australians wouldn't be caught dead saying most of these. At least learn to spell before you ascribe these ridiculous expressions to most Australians.
I love our slang and would have loved to share this but there was just too much swearing. We don't all swear that much. We are always up for a laugh and can laugh at ourselves. We have huge hearts and that showed after all the floods when so many Aussies got out to help anyone that needed it. It's not that I care what the rest of the world thinks at all but our older generation started this slang and they didn't use that lanuage then. Background song spoilt it for me.
@ew18827 You mean you don't, I'm fucken Aussie and I do. So what you really fucken mean is, some do and some don't, which is the whole fucken point of this video, so the other half know what the fuck we are saying.
two little things... . ive never heared anyone refer to a red head as "bluey" everyone i know calls them ranga... and its only very large male roo's that you shouldnt pat, and mostly in spring, otherwise they usually run away and are fun to chase :)
Im from America and If I said this stuff to people they would give me a dirty look! I think Ill try it, lol. Oh and how much do you Aussie's swear? If I say shit I get yelled at!!
@TwiFreak19 Very few Aussies swear as much as this makes out. We certainly don't all have filthy mouths. Most of us here have an education good enough that we can spell words that have more than 4 letters in them.
HAHAHA!! I have only ever heard it as 'Need to shake a snake', but otherwise... And for us Queenslanders, anyone below the border is a Mexican, including all you fella's in NSW and Canberra!! My mum's a NSWer and she gets shit every State of Origin. Especially as the maroons kick ass every time, hahaha.
Haha this is great, my only complaint is i think you have the definition of a "dag" wrong! It is both genders and means someone is very casual in their behaviour or dress, somtimes a girl will say it about a guy is he is a bit unfortunate but nice so he is still a catch. Some of theme i wouldnt use, but most are pretty regular just drop the swearing, and im not from the complete sticks. Good collection!!
@Loz90Child Thanks for your feedback. I was pretty drunk when I typed these up, hence the added swearing and spelling mistakes. However, I thinking the swearing if anything captures the relaxed persona of the 'typical Aussie'. Regarding the 'dag' reference, us men with our huge ego's, don't like to be thought of as unfortunate. This is why we despise the term, it crushes our ego.
One this is for sure. It was never proof read. The spelling mistakes are abominable. I found it amusing. I must admit, I do say some of those sayings.
So it seems, I am a Mexican, engaged to a wog, and have just been over to see the crow eaters.
One thing they forgot was Western Australians, have always been known as the sand gropers.
After living all over Australia I can confidently say that if you dont know at least 90% of these sayings, and are Australian, then you are probably a yuppie from Sydney. If you are Australian, but believe yourself to be above the "Bogans" who are the basis for our unique culture and outlook on the world, then please keep quiet and stop embaressing those of us who love what out country is realy all about.
@CombatArmsHackNoobs Not sure the relevance of your comment being directed at me. I do not have a particularly high opinion of Sydney, and nothing in my post suggested otherwise...
I lived in a small country town and now I live in a city and tbh I think I know of about 6 of those sayings not many people say that in Australia and most of the time if you say "cunt" your gonna get a lot of people looking at you with a disgusted look on there face most of this is just shit and I wasted my time watching this so I agree they should rename it because you will find many Australians will disagree with this video unless your a bogan - the equivalent as the usa term for redneck
Why are people finding this offensive? I'm FIFTEEN and I've heard all but a few of these. Honestly, it's not that much of a big deal. Even if people in the city don't use them as much, people in the bush do. And people down the pub. I picked most of this up from my dad, I never say most of it, but if I heard it I would still recognise it and wouldn't be offended!
Thanks - this is hilarious!!!! We have lived in Oz in the past and planning on moving back. We have to do an ENGLISH test for visa!!!! This info will be handy!!!!! LOL.
(For those that dont get it, that is tongue in cheek!!!!). Love OZ!!!
This isn't how to speak Australian Dammit, most of these things are what you're really typical 'aussie' guy would say. I've only ever heard half of these things, perhaps it's cos I live in the city....I don't know.
@IIproductionsII No it doesn't. You'll find that 80% of Australians don't say this shit that you've said in the vid. Only the dick head typical rednecks would say this crap. Therefore, it's not how to speak Australian.
@IIproductionsII I assume you were responding to me. Yes, your first sentence does contridict itself. Please tell me if this is not Australian, what langauge is it?
@HalfEatenDimSim Well "Australian" isn't a language, and no my sentence doesn't contradict itself as i'm saying..the idiotic rednecks aren't the only Australians you know..given most Australians don't say this crap..it's not how to speak Australian. Please change your title to "How to speek like a fucking bushwacka peice of shit"
@IIproductionsII There are no rednecks in Australia, only bogans. Going on your logic, not everyone in Italy says Ciao. I know a guy who lived there and never said it so therefore, Ciao is not Italian, it's only what most Italians say.
@HalfEatenDimSim That's not what I'm saying...I'm saying hardly any Australians say this shit. It's not how to speak Australian, if only a few idiotic peices of shit that happen to call themself Australian say it.
My god, why is everyone being so stupid? This video is just meant to be a bit of fun! I'm Victorian, and technically a mexican! I don't use half the slang listed, but do you see me jumping up and down, stamping my feet and whinging that I am being stereotyped? Bloody hell! Thanks for the upload, and sorry that the rest of these pussies can't get thier heads outta thier asses long enough to realise its all a bit of fun. Cheers! To the guy bragging about travelling the country- get over it mate!
Hahahaha I'm 21 from Melbourne, Victoria and I use most of these with my friends as my dad has with me, I think it's a shame that most young Aussies don't recognize and understand most Australian slangs
@kipral Cheers Mate. Queenslanders' came up with the term Mexicans refering to Victorians migrating from the south. Also, I forgot to add 'He's a sandgroper' (He is Western Australian). A reference to WA being mainly desert.
@HalfEatenDimSim ... Now every time I hear the word 'sandgroper', I'm goin' to think of perverted beach-goers in W.A. XD But yeah, the Mexican thing makes sense now. Ta.
Any bets you're a fuckin yank, bloody poof.. After this fuckin ear bashin I might need to go down to the pub for a good ol' piss up. Thumbs up so the fuckin yank can see it
Just got back from Australia, missing it sooo much. This vid is offensive but it's meant to be funny! Don't take it seriously and you'll get a laugh out of it :)
@TheWeasleyTwins13 im australian and i use alot of these sayings, and most of the people i know do aswell, maybe theres more of australia outside of your home weasle twins lol.
I dont know about the other fella, but the Australians I know say some of this shit all the time. We seriously cant be the only country that says that
This is steryotipical bunch of bullshit us Aussie never say that shit and your making us look like a bunch of un-educated hillbillys in the world you complete dumbass.
@musicjasful Your fucking right us aussies don't go saying new zealanders fuck sheep and that americans ride fat kids + you all live on mcdonalds. aussies never fucking say shit ilike that we aint hillbillies like you yanks, stereotypical bullshit man your a fuckhead
@slutiva Cheers mate. Alot of these are becoming obsolete, but still crop up from time to time. PC has changed everything, and the youth here wouldn't be too familiar with these.
just saying that this video makes all of us aussies look racist and dumb. ok, so i have heard alot of those expressions so fair enough but we dont really use them in everyday convos... mainly in outback australia anywho.
btw, a wog stands for western oriental gentleman soo its more than italian and greeks but mainly refers to them.. and yes we do say footy 95% of the time but it refers to NRL. most people think AFL is gay.. and rugby isnt as popular here anddd we call it soccer.
On a side note though i have never heard the "They just found out the war is over" as tasmanians but i like it and will make sure i do in the future. You should also put in "They're proof that tasmanians can swim" for Victorians.
I did an actual count of the ones i have used or commonly hear it was about 70 that i have heard used compared to about 20 that i haven't. Although i didn't count mate (english word) or kangaroo, because it's just an animal not a slang.
Thumbs up if your a normal Australian tired of being betrayed by a handful of Australians... We do not and I mean ever use a third of these expressions.
@BurleyKTFO Speak for yourself arsewipe, not others.Obviously you don't listen to every conversation, at all times, by everybody in Australia, so how the fuck do you know what expressions people don't use? I've simply compiled a list of ones I have heard used.
@HalfEatenDimSim The only australians that talk like this are the 10% of australia that live in the outback and country and then out of those 10% Im sure only about 4% actually use all of those stupid expressions. You also made Australia seem really racist.
@LetsFlyOnceMore You're a 15 yo female, who has travelled around Australia and knows it all. I am sorry, you're right, nobody ever says these things, I made it all up but you were on to me. Good stuff.
@HalfEatenDimSim wow mate you are an arse whipe from the city arent you LOL arent i gald i dont normally go in to the big cities to deal with people like you
@BurleyKTFO ppppft its endearing. and its not a handfull of australians - true these are worded more offensivley than they way i would say them, but if you don't understand at least 90 percent of the meaning then you should see more of your country and meet some more interesting people from your country.
Good collection!!Respond to this video...
LOL Please everyones with less then 5 years of living in any country... don't attempt slang, you'll mess it up and offend someone and most of those Aussie slang are now seen as offensive unless your a tradie or farmer :P and girl speak much more proper than guys. I'll never verbalise cunt :P

@highihigh Nah I dont run my mouth all the time, Im actually quiet thanks, lol. Not every American is loud, I hate loud people.....
TwiFreak19 2 months ago
@TwiFreak19 Very few Aussies swear as much as this makes out. We certainly don't all have filthy mouths. Most of us here have an education good enough that we can spell words that have more than 4 letters in them.
MsCaz007 1 month ago
Fuck it. I'm gunna try to use all this slang more often- fuck being Americanised!
H1sMaj3sty 2 months ago

Loz90Child 2 months ago 2

One thing they forgot was Western Australians, have always been known as the sand gropers.
vikingcis1 3 months ago
After living all over Australia I can confidently say that if you dont know at least 90% of these sayings, and are Australian, then you are probably a yuppie from Sydney. If you are Australian, but believe yourself to be above the "Bogans" who are the basis for our unique culture and outlook on the world, then please keep quiet and stop embaressing those of us who love what out country is realy all about.

MrMatt2122 3 months ago
Why are people finding this offensive? I'm FIFTEEN and I've heard all but a few of these. Honestly, it's not that much of a big deal. Even if people in the city don't use them as much, people in the bush do. And people down the pub. I picked most of this up from my dad, I never say most of it, but if I heard it I would still recognise it and wouldn't be offended!

This isn't how to speak Australian Dammit, most of these things are what you're really typical 'aussie' guy would say. I've only ever heard half of these things, perhaps it's cos I live in the city....I don't know.
IIproductionsII 4 months ago
@IIproductionsII Your first sentence contridicts itself.
HalfEatenDimSim 3 months ago
@IIproductionsII No it doesn't. You'll find that 80% of Australians don't say this shit that you've said in the vid. Only the dick head typical rednecks would say this crap. Therefore, it's not how to speak Australian.
IIproductionsII 3 months ago
@IIproductionsII I assume you were responding to me. Yes, your first sentence does contridict itself. Please tell me if this is not Australian, what langauge is it?
HalfEatenDimSim 3 months ago
@HalfEatenDimSim Well "Australian" isn't a language, and no my sentence doesn't contradict itself as i'm saying..the idiotic rednecks aren't the only Australians you know..given most Australians don't say this crap..it's not how to speak Australian. Please change your title to "How to speek like a fucking bushwacka peice of shit"
IIproductionsII 3 months ago
@IIproductionsII There are no rednecks in Australia, only bogans. Going on your logic, not everyone in Italy says Ciao. I know a guy who lived there and never said it so therefore, Ciao is not Italian, it's only what most Italians say.
HalfEatenDimSim 3 months ago

I grew up with most of these, and I'm only 20. They can't be that uncommon, you lot. Most of you probably don't even realise you're usin' them.
Though, admittedly, some of the 'He's a --' were new. Who came up with mexican for Victorians?
kipral 4 months ago
@kipral Cheers Mate. Queenslanders' came up with the term Mexicans refering to Victorians migrating from the south. Also, I forgot to add 'He's a sandgroper' (He is Western Australian). A reference to WA being mainly desert.
HalfEatenDimSim 4 months ago
@HalfEatenDimSim ... Now every time I hear the word 'sandgroper', I'm goin' to think of perverted beach-goers in W.A. XD But yeah, the Mexican thing makes sense now. Ta.

just saying that this video makes all of us aussies look racist and dumb. ok, so i have heard alot of those expressions so fair enough but we dont really use them in everyday convos... mainly in outback australia anywho.
btw, a wog stands for western oriental gentleman soo its more than italian and greeks but mainly refers to them.. and yes we do say footy 95% of the time but it refers to NRL. most people think AFL is gay.. and rugby isnt as popular here anddd we call it soccer.

On a side note though i have never heard the "They just found out the war is over" as tasmanians but i like it and will make sure i do in the future. You should also put in "They're proof that tasmanians can swim" for Victorians.
youbetzler 5 months ago
I did an actual count of the ones i have used or commonly hear it was about 70 that i have heard used compared to about 20 that i haven't. Although i didn't count mate (english word) or kangaroo, because it's just an animal not a slang.
youbetzler 5 months ago
Thumbs up if your a normal Australian tired of being betrayed by a handful of Australians... We do not and I mean ever use a third of these expressions.
BurleyKTFO 5 months ago 26
@BurleyKTFO Speak for yourself arsewipe, not others.Obviously you don't listen to every conversation, at all times, by everybody in Australia, so how the fuck do you know what expressions people don't use? I've simply compiled a list of ones I have heard used.
HalfEatenDimSim 5 months ago 6
@HalfEatenDimSim The only australians that talk like this are the 10% of australia that live in the outback and country and then out of those 10% Im sure only about 4% actually use all of those stupid expressions. You also made Australia seem really racist.

@BurleyKTFO Indeed, and if we did, we wouldn't americanize them.....we would say "Pig's Arse" not Pig's Ass" !!
grassabrutta 5 months ago 2
@BurleyKTFO ppppft its endearing. and its not a handfull of australians - true these are worded more offensivley than they way i would say them, but if you don't understand at least 90 percent of the meaning then you should see more of your country and meet some more interesting people from your country.
