What I don't understand is why a car insurance company would use "funny" ads. A car accident isn't something humor can solve. This is akin to a hospital advertising with a slogan like "We'll try our best not to let you die!".

@xSceneCuppyCakex My point is that no matter how funny they might be, it doesn't say anything for how good an insurance company they are. The funniest advertisement in the world could just as well be for the suckiest product in the world.

Car insurance isn't exactly one of those things where if you get a bad product you can just laugh it off and go "I'll choose better next time". If you get a bad insurance policy and get into an accident, you're probably screwed.

My father told me once that he'd read that the reason there aren't more funny commercials is that research shows that many viewers often remember everything about the ad EXCEPT what the actual product was. Whether or not that's true, I do find it to be true in my case. I love funny commercials, but indeed---I usually can't remember what it was they were advertising.

The Geico campaign is one exception, I think, because it builds the joke directly AROUND the brand name.

Too bad the majority of people don't even understand this commercial which is based off of what I thought was a pretty common saying. I get it, and so it is hilarious and genius. First time I saw this, I had just turned on the TV and DIDN'T SEE THE BEGINNING! I thought it was antique roadshow, saw the figurine and pushed numbers on the remote to change channels.
