Like so many videos on YouTube that were made before better definition was allowed, it isn't possible to see the necessary detail. It's a real pity because so many videos that would be really useful fall down because it isn't possible to see them properly.

DD-wrt is tricky for noobs like me. I have permision to share my neighbors net but I can't get a solid signal. I have a WRT564G v8 with the latest build. Its has repeater mode but I can't get to repeat his signal. I know thi sthing will do it I just need the setup. The Wiki is no help. Can you do a new vid? I'm not looking for a bridge just a relay booster...

Awesome. A neighbor came to me asking me how they could accomplish this. I was going to buy a new router with dual SSIDs but guess I can try this first. Will give this a test run on my router tonight.

Just go to the Wireless Security settings and changed the Disabled to Enabled. Select your settings and you're good to go.

You need to be closer to the signal. There are some tricks you can do, like use a different antenna or boost the signal strength with DD-WRT. But the best solution would be to run a cable and put the wireless router closer to your room, or get a second wireless router to use as an extender.

Use OpenDNS to restrict what websites the open wifi side can access and the bandwidth limit settings in DD-WRT can control bandwidth usage by people on the shared side too.

i would so do this if i could throtlle the bandwidth on the other internerface, i know how to make it work on a transparent proxy to keep ppl off my ip for the most part, its just the limiting the QOS baffels me

Sharing your wireless with anybody is foolish. They do something wrong, and you get blamed for it because its your IP. Let alone the fact they would be hogging your bandwidth which usually is bad enough as it is by yourself.

i have 2 questions

1. do i have to have my wireless sender as dd wrt for this to work? or can i just put my wireless reciever on dd wrt?

2.when i go to download the firmware, it shows like 10 different things to downloads and it says only one is the firmware.. is this the right firmware for my router, or do i need to find some other firmware?

You have to turn on wireless security. Its called WEP or WPA. You have to configure it through your wireless router, and set a password.
