Very interesting; a Jewish violin virtuoso and a Jewish conductor playing a german concert probably in the same theater hitler attended concerts. WHO WOULD THINK THIS WAS POSIBLE 70 YEARS AGO!!!....Great!!!!
I love Perlman, he's truly one of the greatest musicians today, if not the greatest.
He does the multitude of little things that others ignore. For example, as the bassoon starts his solo at around 3:16, Perlman backs way off and lets the bassoon shine, despite him being the soloist. The other soloists obnoxiously try to hide it. Also, that little grace-note played, at around 1:06, was so delicate and perfect. I could go on and on about Perlman's awesomeness.

1 - Perlman is a god. His wonderful personality, obvious love for the music, and unbelievable talent combine to make a breathtaking musician. And he looks like a big teddy bear.
2 - This is one of the best pieces of music ever written and Itzhak plays it flawlessly. I think he brought tears to his OWN eyes with that soft shit at 3:27. THAT is what violins are made for.
3 - This is the kind of stuff we should be sending into space so the aliens don't destroy us.
I know! That one section (just like 10 seconds or so) is among my favorite moments in music history. It's absolutely beyond beautiful and no one plays it like Perlman.
This is the best music performance in my 200 CDs (even though 100 out of 200 is by Perlman... *cough*). This performance with Barenboim is just sweet and powerful (not just the 3rd movement, but all movements). When I listen to this performance in my room with closing my eyes I always cry, but if I was there in the audience I am sure I am smiling throughout looking at his performance. Wonderful.
For those who must try to impress us with their critiques....post your performance of this Beethoven piece or shut up. I'll listen and admire Perlman's worst performance anytime!

Pudgy magical hands. Overwhelming, my heart in my throat, and one of the most beautiful performances I've heard. Someone is right here about the nitpicking that goes on. At 3:04 I found myself thinking "whoa, Barenboim, I think there is piano in the orchestra score but why so piano, almost pianissimo? The violin line will stick out too much" Then after a few seconds the violin sounds so lonely, like crying and praying... just beautiful.
Even if he had 20 million up his ass and a fiddle to prove it he would sound like a fucking cat being tortured
I sold a Beckman six foot upright to people who had a little concert pianist daughter. She could barely play Fur elise -- and even she could that is nothing to right home about.
Really? You must be unclaimed treasure. If she is so good why have you not had him in the Tchaikovsky competition? You must be angry idiot. I'm certain your little brother could not play the first two notes of the concerto without everyone running as it would sound like a fucking cat being murdered.
alexxxxxx -- what are you a fucking pederast. Who would pick a name like that.
Perlman really is a genius!! He always has a great interpretation of pieces he play.. He's one of the few violinist I really want to be like in the future, because despite his condition, he could still create such a magnificent sound, which I call 'PURE'... i wish i could be his student... or just to meet him in person is fine!! ^__________^
I would not necessarily agree. Its like pianos. If it has Steinway printed on it every one thinks it is the best. Well certainly the most costly, but since around 1940, they have not built a decent instrument. I remember when I played Rachmaninoff at Kenyon College on a 9 foot grand 1962, and the thing was such a piece of garbage I just walked off the stage when I was done.
Yamaha and kwai are much better, especially for your wallet.
I never usually comment because I think its a waste of time, but I must say that I am deeply disturbed by those who listen to great performances and pick out a few errors, that in Perlman's case I would hardly call errors, and prove to everyone that they can here them. I am not saying that great artists are above scrutiny, but I do believe that picking out tiny flaws out of a musically fantastic performance is petty and immature. Music means much more than that.
I know its a waste of time, but I have insomnia so it gives me something to do in the evening. Anyone who rip on Perlman is an ass. Everyone makes mistakes. You should have heard me play Chopin's f minor prelude. It was a disaster. But I can play the damn thing. When your in front of a crowd, you want to talk about motor skills being compromised. That is when a little vodka would help you out.

Listened to other recordings of this and even though they are all technically accurate they somehow just don't compare to Perlman. It's truly outstanding...the last minute of this movement took my breath away
@Baconisdelicous - Mr Perlmann is Jewish and probably never tasted bacon. Your choice of name speaks volumes - you are the kind of idiot that really thinks that asphalt is a rectal problem - but just remember that V.D. is nothing to 'clap' about, and the best part of you ran down your fathers leg
@cullivoebhoy wow, first of all, you responded to a comment 2 pages ago, why??Next I suppose you'll respond to someone who wrote a comment a year ago, right? Next, why would you respond to someone just talk about their name? Are you venting on the internet or something?Oh, and what is so bad about bacon?I actually really like bacon, goes great with eggs.I get Straight A's, so im not stupid. Also, are you saying I can't respond to a video because of my name?Well i'm SO sorry then.(note my sarcasm)
@cullivoebhoy Also, i couldn't fit this in, but I'm pretty sure you are the idiot for responding like that. If your wondering about the no spaces after my sentences, I tried to fit it all in, OK? So don't even try to get me on that. You are truly an Asshole. You actually define all the swears I can think of, but I don't want to bother you with them. Thank you for your time.
This conductor annoys me. Idk why. I just think Karajan is the end-all conductor other than Beethoven himself. Although, I think Beethoven would admire Karajan. And as for Perlman- unbelievably good.
I am an amateur. This music means so much to me and yet I have a completely untrained ear. I used to attend CSO concerts, alone if need be, find myself completely taken, and not really know who I was listening to e.g., Barenboiim conducting. But I have attended with trained musicians, a violinist or two, and they identify the same errors; they identify the same errors, as with Pearlman at Symphony Hall SF last year (winter '11), but with a smile and a seduced understatement: "but so wonderful."
@Johnnie23457 Totally. I play violin myself and I wouldn't even dare comparing my intonation to that of Perlman. My comment was actually more of a derision of people who do just that, finding tiny defects in everything..
I've realized that sometimes, when I love a music video, I make the grave mistake of reading comments. Then some jerk finds some minor defect about it and it literally destroys my listening experience forever afterwards.
I am a short film maker. I loved the piece (Beethoven's Violin Concerto played by Itzak) that you have uploaded. I want to use a small piece (30 sec) for my short film which about an old Violinist. @Baconisdelicous - Mr Perlmann is Jewish and probably never tasted bacon. Your choice of name speaks volumes - you are the kind of idiot that really thinks that asphalt is a rectal problem - but just remember that V.D. is nothing to 'clap' about, and the best part of you ran down your fathers leg
cullivoebhoy 6 months ago
@cullivoebhoy wow, first of all, you responded to a comment 2 pages ago, why??Next I suppose you'll respond to someone who wrote a comment a year ago, right? Next, why would you respond to someone just talk about their name? Are you venting on the internet or something?Oh, and what is so bad about bacon?I actually really like bacon, goes great with eggs.I get Straight A's, so im not stupid. Also, are you saying I can't respond to a video because of my name?Well i'm SO sorry then.(note my sarcasm)
Baconisdelicous 6 months ago

Johnnie23457 1 year ago
@Johnnie23457 Totally. I play violin myself and I wouldn't even dare comparing my intonation to that of Perlman. My comment was actually more of a derision of people who do just that, finding tiny defects in everything..
I've realized that sometimes, when I love a music video, I make the grave mistake of reading comments. Then some jerk finds some minor defect about it and it literally destroys my listening experience forever afterwards.

Hi Rideg62,
I am a short film maker. I loved the piece (Beethoven's Violin Concerto played by Itzak) that you have uploaded. I want to use a small piece (30 sec) for my short film which about an old Violinist. Its a no budget film and I was wondering how what are the Copyright nuances about this particular recording. Don't know if you would be able to help...but if you can please share your insight.
Thanks

I´m not an expert in music...problem note in 2:21??

@rubkas what problem note?
MrViolinGuy 1 year ago
@MrViolinGuy I repeat I´m not a expert but in 2:22 I think the note is not sound perfect. Am I wrong?
rubkas 1 year ago
@rubkas His bow may have caught something on the string. Either that or he didnt come down with enough pressure. You're right though, the note wasn't 100%.

I think it's obvious : I.Perlman is the HANDMAN of the orchestra; his eyes could kill anyone who is wrong, or problematic on stage or in the crowd !
Sylvain894 1 year ago
WOW! Don't you just love Beethoven? He never disappoints. The only way it could have better if it had been Perlman and von Karajan.
