It is for this reason that the Ottoman empire by the time of it's defeat in ww1 had zero industry capability and nil ability to export it's good & resources as the population was still stuck in the middle ages style of thinking. Instead of fostering economic trade with it's neighbors it modal of thinking was of conquest and expansion.

@Mahdiarmy This mode of thinking of only expansion was the death of the Ottoman empire since it prevented any foreign trade (something that is vital to all nations today) rather then allowing merchants free passage through their land they charged them a tax. It was to late to reverse this mistake by the time the few educated Ottoman elite's realized their mistake.

@Mahdiarmy The fact that non muslims were in the government throughout it's histories is proof that the empire was secular (the brightest of the Janissaries were sent to serve in posts in the government). Please go and study the history before you claim I am uneducated. I can easily tell you my achievements in my field of expertise thanks to my university degree but it is pointless since this is youtube and I cannot back up such a claim. As a Turk I happen to know my people's history very well.

If not for Ataturk then Turkey would not exist but a fractured micro states (look up sevres). As for the Ottomans the style of the gov was one of secularism since the sultan was not a religious leader (compare to late Safavid rulers). The sultan's were first tradesmen (not enough to be state leader) followed by gov leader. I wish you well.

The answer is no and in time they also added conquered people into their own collective with many of them becoming government members & religious leaders for their religions. This is secularism but the empire was the empire of Islam because Islam teaches that we must be respectful to all other religions!!! Go educate yourself

Dont forget the first war of Turkish republic troops was the expelling of allied invaders in 1922, against Turkey all have failed & the Greeks were the first to taste what it means to be blitzed (1922 Turkish great offensive). HAHAHA Bulgaria was attacked in the second Balkan war by your "Orthodox allies" lol learn your history mate!
