mclaren f1 is naturally aspirated, compared to the veyron that has 4 turbo chargers. The Veyron takes the lead cuz the turbos kick in later but mclaren is still a winner in my opinion. The V12 engine BMW designed for this monster is pure genius.

For those who doesn't know what happened, both the McLaren F1 and the Bugatti Veyron have an advantage and disadvantage, the McLaren F1 has decreased top speed (240 MPH) while the Bugatti Veyron has better top speed (253 MPH), but the F1 has better 0 to 62 MPH than the Veyron, that's why the F1 pulled away at the start and then the (almost defeated) Veyron took 1st place again!

Ehhhh no, its called television, its supposed to be entertaining, Hammond even admitted once the this drage race was staged, so it was more exciting to watch for the audience.

And by the way, the standard veyron was clocked by almost every car magazine with 2.5 secs 0-62 mph, the McLaren F1 is more like 3.4 secs, up to 200 km/h the veyron is already 2 seconds ahead, which is quite a few carlengths.

But as of now, Veyron SS beats the SSC in 0-60, 0-100, 0-150, 0-200, 0-250 and top speed.

Veyron SS also corners faster and stops faster. For now.

A 2005 car racing against a 1994 wonder and still worked extremely hard to outrun it. In my opinion, there will never be a supercar with greater impact than the McLaren F1. Ever.

Given the F1's performance, he's lucky he had the extra HP or he probably would not have caught up. And his win was not by that much over a car that is at least thirteen years older than the Veyron. The McLaren is still the best looking of the two. Squeeze a couple hundred more HP out the F1 and he would have been looking at the tail lights at the finish line.

This is where many are wrong. The Bugatti wasn't set to top speed more where the wing would have stayed down and the car would have lowered a bit. Or not in normal mode, it's meant to reserve the power and so on. Facts don't lie as the Bugatti will do 0-100 km/h in 2.5 and the F1 in 3.2.

veyron has a higher top speed but as one poster already noticed, a shorter range race would have resulted in a clear f1 win. the highest top speed car will always win if the distance is right. however. extend the distance past the effective gastank range and I can beat the veyron with a prius!!! the quickness of the f1 would dominate the veyron on a windy track.... especially since the veyron is designed to come out of "speed mode" in turns.... the set up is what made the veyron win. f1=legend
