  • Thank you so much for this . I was 15 years old and lived at Farnham , 8 miles away .

The P 1127 Kestrel went through the sound barrier during the run up to the show whilst I was at school , amazing to see the Americans still using their variant in the Libyan conflict 2010 and sad to see we have taken the Harrier out of service.

  • No its designation was P1127. Kestrel was the name given to the 9 .development. aircraft that equipped a special evaluation squadron.

The cancelled supersonic version was P1154.

The BAC 221 was the original FD2 but was completely rebuilt with new Ogive shaped wings as part of Concorde development programme although by the time it flew the Concorde wing shape had already been fixed.

The little planes at the beginning are the Druine D31 Turbulent.

  • Thinking about it again the aircraft in the video is known as the Harrier as it it been ordered by the MOD. Kestrel was used after the aircraft came out of prototype stage. The designation as a prototype was P1154, and the supersonic version was going to be the P1157, but didn't have a name given to it before it was canceled altogether.

  • Actually your right but it also went under the title I think of the P1154, the P stands for prototype, but that could also have been a follow on model that was to go supersonic, but never went into production because of cost.

  • What a great find. That will have "hoarders" browsing their stuff for months... ;-)

  • The "pointy thing" is a Fairy Delta 2 with a Harrier, VC 10, Fiat G91, Folland Gnats, Sea Vixens and Buccaneer's, plus some little planes that flew using VW engine's from Beetle cars.

  • @D4281 Wasn't the Harrier actually called the Kestral in 1966?

  • @cbxsage See if they can find the TSR@

  • Ah ...back in the days when it actually WAS an Airshow.

  • nice to see the golden days

  • 44 years of hurt, Jules rimet still gleaming though

  • this better be 1996

  • are you sure it is the BAC 221? the BAC 221 was developed from the Fairey Delta 2

the FD2 also smashed the world speed record (1,132MPH) by 300 MPH.

  • that pointy thing, i take it, was a Fairey Delta...? :)

  • great stuff,i think it may be 1968 as there are nine Red Arrows

  • What a gem, thanks - those were the days!

  • Brilliant!

  • Fantastic! Thank you for posting.

  • Cheers - more treasure. Great to see the BAC 221
