Well Basically when gordon stepped into the portal he basically became the Gmans property and the connection between 1 and 2 is that iff the Gman hadnt intervened i think gordon would have died at some point where he wasnt supposed to so what the gman is trying to do is change time for some reason were not entirely sure of so in short the Gman put gordon into stasis so that he could be put back into time when it was most nescessary
