  • I love this film!!!! I love the theatrical version. The extended version. The version cut for TV. I've always loved this film and OMG Robert Stack as General Stilwell!!! One of many great lines in the film, " Now that might be the craziest son of a bitch I've ever seen." I'm sorry a lot of people love the Blues Brothers but I think it's over rated.

  • thank God. Japanese people are awesome since after the war

  • HOLLEWOO!

  • How would you like to drive to work one day and all of the signs are written in JAPANESS?!

  • I always thought the movie was funny.

  • Shame the teaser is a lot better than the film

  • This film is probably the most underrated comedy of all time...it's just sooo damn funny!!!

  • chewing cigarr? XD

  • @Grumberf

You can chew leaf tobacco just like chewing tobacco.

  • I saw it today and enjoyed it

  • i have seen this movie, it's ok, i guess the best part is the tank that shoots up down town trying to put out the lights because the black out order wasn't given.

all in all i give it a 5-6 out of 10, ok, not great.

  • WHAT DOES 1941 AND the film A.I. HAVE IN COMMON? (how about imaginarium parnassus and brazil (and about three other Gilliam films, combined with matrix) can you continue the secret society thread?

  • @SatansMullet

    *I'm not an American.

    *You are missing the point.

Japanese refuse to apologize to the victims who are still alive.

US teach truth about slavery & Native American massacres.

Biography & autobiography of slaves are required reading at US schools.

Japanese teach that the victims were well-paid prostitutes who volunteered to suck cocks for money.

How would you feel if you were gang raped for years & baredly espcaed w/ your life but the rapists call you a whore who volunteered?

  • Japanese were as evil as Nazi.

Japanese abducted 200,000 girls throughout Asia & Caucasian women in Indonesia & raped them up to 50 times a day & buried them alive to save bullets when they became too sick to be raped.

In 2007, Japanese gov't-sponsored org's bought 1 pg. of Wall Street Journal & filled it w/ LIES: 1) the females were prostitutes who volunteered to serve Japanese soldiers. 2) Japanese gov't paid them more than it paid Japanese army generals.

    GOOGLE: Japanese military sex slave

  • @KimInLosAngeles It's a COMEDY!

  • @KimInLosAngeles Just so you know, ANY race is capable of total evil. dont fool yourself. just because America HIDES its evil doesnt mean it doesnt HAVE any. every race on earth has done evil. just cause you list all those things the japanese did, doesnt give you any reason to be racist against any of em now. nor the germans. nor ANYONE. everyone forges their own destiny. lets TRY OUR BEST to make it a good one

  • @KimInLosAngeles NO.NO.Japanese were'nt as evil as Nazi.It was certainly true.

Anyone never know history of The greater east asian war,They think that Nazi and Japan was equivalent. It was awful mistake,I think.

  • wat the tilte no english escuse me

  • LOL, Belushi was fuckin hilarious.

  • That ... sucked.

  • People consider this a huge flop because speilberg was the hot new director in town and he already came off of making jaws and close encounters and this film...well you get the idea. Well Cast but maybe not well directed. Speilberg is great no doubt about it but I think the directing duties should of went to robert zemeckis. watch his first film, I wanna hold your hand and you'll see why.

  • I totally agree with you AI was a godawful mess of a film. But i dont understand all the hate for this film its funny, yeah its not the greatest movie but its good.

  • I totally agree with you AI was a godawful mess of a film. But i dont understand all the hate for this film its funny, yeah its not the greatest movie but its good.

  • Aerospace i like it.........

  • I noticed they were calling him Wild Wayne and in the movie he is Wild Bill. There must have been a change along the way. This has always been my favorite Belushi movie and character!

  • woow... americans have ads even in this kind of movies ;/

  • Even classic movies have product placement

  • did he just eat his cigar?

  • @mechislander Hell, yeah!

  • @mechislander

    No, he's chewing the tobacco.

  • Spielberg had A LOT of flops. Maximum Overdrive was another.

  • @heroineworshipper Maximum Overdrive was directed by STEPHEN KING!

  • @heroineworshipper HUH? lol

  • @heroineworshipper

Spielberg did not do Maximum Overdrive. Dino DeLaurentis was the Producer and Stephen King was the Director.

  • I wouldn't say that the patriotism was blind. After all, a foreign power had waged an unprovoked attack on one of America's naval bases and it served to put a fire under the American people's asses that pulled them together.

Patriotism is one of the things that helps keep America free.

As far as the movie goes, it is a childhood favorite of mine and I'm hoping that someone will post the entire film on here due to the lack of a video store where I live.

  • Never seen this movie but my dad told me it was a good movie and he also said it was his favorite movie of Belushi's

  • What the hell was Steven thinking?

  • loads laughsd, the sub fight ha ha,, were going blow shit something big ha ha

  • this movie was such a relief to watch. I've been getting sick of movies where all they talk about is their dick. This movie was soooo FUNNY!

  • who cares if it "flopped" its a great movie!

  • I love this movie! It's hilarious. Hollywood?! NO! HOLLIS WOOD

  • Comment removed

  • One of his best. Certainly the most personal!

  • The best burlesque made!

Spielberg made some heavy hiters and since this is a unique comedy it is not judged corectly. Any time I catch this moovie, I make a point of enjoying it.

  • is there much fight/battle scenes in this movie or is it just comedy what takes place in war?

  • @Battery20678 Yes!

  • @reichmarshall its a comedy but half the movie is a fight scene, in hollywood.

  • @Battery20678 its a very funny movie lol you gotta watch it!

  • @WooZIE997 i saw it about week ago and i really liked it.

  • The movie with the most chaos and destruction in the history of cinema :D

  • Did he just bite off a chunk of his cigar? XD

  • where can i watch full movie

  • @singningwongho try renting it

  • @singningwongho

    go to crackle(dot)com

  • @singningwongho Netflix!

  • @singningwongho Try Crackle man. its a new site that works awesomely but theres adds in the movies but there really short. works great for me

  • 1:22-- Is that Luke Skywalker(Mark Hamill)?

  • @ryanstiles I think it is dude!

  • Anybody notice he has a different name in the trailer? He's "Wild WAYNE Kelso" and it was "Wild Bill" in the film

  • A waste of great talent that fell victim to poor writting. Suprisingly, it was written by the same man who gave us Back to the Future.

  • The reason this movie was a flop had nothing to do with "Jaws" and "Close Encounters." The reason it was a flop was because of poor audience reaction. It just wasn't very funny.

  • Fantastic Mr. Belushi.

  • I think it looks as a very nice film :-). Woul anyone, please download more with Mr. Belushi??

  • that's my favorite part.. Warren Oats saying... " let me hear your guns son!!! yak yak yak yak yak....!!!!"

  • i wanna hear your guns!

  • i luv this film wit a passion!=-)

  • HOLLYWOOOOOOD!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • the whole movie is very entertaining :)

  • Chaotic movie with some great moments. Slim Pickens steals the film though.

  • Maybe you should watch it a couple more times just to make sure!

  • Its going its going its going... Ferris wheel scene is hilarious

  • funny..great....

Does anybody know the beginning of the song that plays at the 1:11 mark?

    I forgot.

    THANKS GUYS

  • I don't know the name but it's your stereotypical German "Oom-pah-pah" song. Nice catch!

  • This was the funniest movie ever made! There wasn't a moment during it that I didn't laugh!

  • After Spielberg's 2 colossal sucesses, Jaws and Close Encounters every actor it seems wanted to jump the Spielberg bandwagon, never mind that they didn't have any idea what they were jumping into

  • This original trailer doesn't show the hilarious comedy of hysteria in America during Dec. 7th, 1941 which the movie shows & exemplyfies

    !

The movie is a must buy to laugh your guts out over the hysteria of FEAR during the following day of the 1st attack on Pearl Harbor!

    !

One of Belushi's classics... on the line like "Animal House"!

May he rest in peace, soothed by the joy of our laughter. a true sumurai of comedy with Dan Akroyd & supporting cast.

    HollyWooooood!.

  • Some of my random responses to the film:

Amen to those praising this film, I agree wholeheartedly!

I saw the film in my youth, and only remembered short scenes, like the woman getting picked up by the sub and the ferris wheel. Seeing it again was absolutely wonderful.

    John Belushi... hahahahahahahahaha....

And to those criticizing the film because it is supposed to be 'not as good as other Spielberg films'..

    YOUR LOSS

CAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS FUCKING HILARIOUS!!

    :) :D xD

  • I thaught it was wild bill? hheh

  • hiliarous

  • whoa spielberg used to be edgy:) belushi's very strong, almost a bit of cagney there?

  • True!! Belushi's a legend. So is Cagney!!

  • James? Cagney?

  • John Belushi reminds me of Hurley from Lost.

  • you mean hurley from lost reminds you of john belushi

  • dammit i want to see this movie

  • This is also one of my favorite movies from spielberg.

Belushi is stunning as a deranged pilot...also eddie dezeen...LMAO

I hope it`s going to be on dvd soon...can`t wait to see this wonderful movie again.

The 1941 march music is Williams on his best.

    A very chaotic, feelgood comedy.

Watch the chinese at the beginning...HOLLYWOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!

  • It is already on DVD for a long time...

  • Not here in the netherlands with dutch subs.

Maybe in the USA...but not here.

  • Most unfairly classed as a flop when in fact it is one of the greatest comedies of all time, as good as the best of the Marx Brothers' and even better than "It's a Mad. Mad. Mad. Mad World". Even the music is extremely stirring and catchy. I would be glad to buy the DVD if I came across it, but alternatively would also be happy to find it posted here, possibly labelled backwards as "1491".

  • hendrikdevuile it's a mad mad mad mad world is the funniest movie ever made what's the big deal!

  • only257, you have blocked replies unless one is an official friend, so I am forced to write here: No big deal. I used to think that "It's a Mad x4 World" was the funniest film ever until. much later, when I saw "1941". The two are very similar, both having a hectic pace and many stars. but the latter is painted on a far vaster canvas, and. in my humble opinion. somewhat madder and funnier. It does not surprise me at all that some people should think that the former is the funnier,

  • expect that it's a mad mad mad mad world is the funniest movie just saw this movie on vhs some laughs but not too funny though!

  • HO-E-WOOOOO!

  • I love this movie, john belushi, dan akroyd, and john candy? with a topping of steven speilberg? can't get any better. although my favorite carachter has to be the chrismas tree guy.

  • lol 1:37 he bites and eates the cigar lol

  • lol wonder why lol xD

  • I saw this movie for a long, long time ago.

    It was pretty nice! ;)

  • This is a great little comedy. The only film I can compare it to is It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world what with it's long runing time, large star cast, and multiple charecters connected to one thing.

  • This has always been my favourite spielberg film.

    Tuly Excellent Comedy.

The critics obviously had no taste.

  • I´m not sure about the "identity" of this P-40, but it may be NL9837 (its civilian registration number), with an obvious war make-up...

  • I was 13 when this came out and i loved it! Its a bit hard to watch now but still not as bad as its reputation. I think you need to enjoy the time period to really get anything out of it though.

  • "ya think yer best girl'll look good in a kimona? how would you like to eat sauerkraut for the rest of your life!?"

he always puposely mixes up the japanese and the germans like when he said in animal house, "was it over when the germans bombed pearl harbor? HELL NO!"

  • "...how'd you like to look out and see the street signs written in JAPANESE!!!!!"

Like Sony, Nissan and Sushi Bars...lol.

  • he should have drank that bottle of coke in one gulp and said 'i needed that'

  • Actor Christopher Lee later worked with actor Martin Mull (also of TV's Roseanne). He (Mull) admitted in a 1978 Newsweek interview that he never yelled in reallife thus he is naturally lobotomized. How weird it must have been for Lee to work with Mull!

  • Man, Spielberg must have been thrilled to work with all those a-list stars

  • It was just a bit of fun...don't think it should be taken seriously.Enjoyed the nuttiness of Ackroyd and Belushi and it was filled with stars, really good actors.

  • I really enjoyed '1941' Spielbergs use of the louma crane was brilliant, the dance routine and fight sequence very entertaining and the model work (yes model work, no cgi rubbish here) quite superb. A very underated film, pity.

  • The problem with this film is that it wasn't Airplane. Aside from which, it's extremely enjoyable.

  • Hey! That looked like Mark Hamill refueling the plane at 1:22.

  • It was a flop because it mocked the patriotism in a conflict that was forced upon us, which claimed millions of American lives, for some reason that tends to deter box office gross.. imagine that, human decency.

Maybe during this advert they should have shown a Japanese soldier lopping off some POWs head to test his shiny new sword?

Funny how Spielberg never sympathized with those "poor" Germans that were murdering his people isn't it?

  • millions of americans didnt die! where the hell did you get that idea? it was just over 200,000 which was not very many compared to other nations. altho it was the last war in which america did any good...

  • Actually the estimates range from 300,000 to just under 600,000, my mistake.. I can get somewhat annoyed when a soldiers death is denigrated by a bourgeois intellectual or writer in this instance.

  • that must b casualties as a whole

  • Commie, eh?

  • It's a brilliant picture for a more sophisticated audience.

  • I thought conservatives believed in self-reliance.

  • So long mama,

    i'm off to Yokohama!

    Awesome ;)

  • The girl who played betty was beyond hot! what happened to her?

  • A very fun movie.

  • The voice-off was Dan Aykroyd's. He plays one of the leading roles in this movie.

  • My third favourite film:

    !)Blues Brothers

    2)Animal House

    3)1941

  • For a second I was like I didn't know John Belushi was dead, problem was i confused him with Jim Belushi.

  • John Belushi is Albanian.

    wikipedia. org/wiki/John_Belushi

  • John Belushi WAS Albanian.

    Now he's dead.

  • Well yes. I know I am sorry for not using the proper past verb. God bless you all.

  • Boy do I love that P-40 Warhawk.

  • john belushi the best

  • YEAH...

  • ohhh what a great movie!

  • notice how they call him "Wild Wayne Kelso" in this teaser and in the actual movie he was "Wild BILL Kelso"

  • drive to work one morning...and the street signs...they'll be in..JAPANESE! HAA!!

    LmAo

  • LOL!

  • Best line in the movie is from Slim Pickens:

"You ain't gettin' shit outta me!" LMAO

  • The portuguese-translated version is SO hilarious!

  • i think this movie is underrated i love it

  • It had too many main characters, its comedic style was inconsistent---but it had some of the best miniature work ever done in a movie!

  • was the attempt at political commentary necessary? it's very glib to say "seems oddly familiar in today's political climate." bad enough we got freaks like o'reilly and coulter on the air, let's leave these comedy greats alone! I'm begging you! *sob*

but seriously, I love your stuff, keep up the great work

  • It's a movie about how post-attack paranoia makes everybody act like idiots. I saw a parallel.

  • any plans to come nyc? the revival of swing, rockabilly, hot club jazz etc are still going strong

  • Hahaha this movie was awsome, did you notice the announcer was none other then Dan Aykroyd hisself?

  • I wanna see this movie!! I can't find it in Japan.

  • a great movie!! ;)

  • I don't think it was banned. only one movie in America has been banned, Uncle Toms Cabin. But Wild Bill was great

  • film banned in america for being too funny :D

    i just love it.

But there was funnier and better trailer with everybody screaming...

  • Yeah I know if I was in the theatre in 79' and watching the preview for the first time I would be laughing but also think that this was a lousy movie. It's not lousy but it isn't Speilberg's best either.

  • I know I think I'll post it, because that is one of the funniest movie trailers in history. I think though if I had seen that in the theatre I would think this is going to be both funny and lousy.

  • Wild Bill (this was an early trailer) Kelso and don't you forget it! The opening jaws sceen was great with the origional Kristy in the water with the jap sub. One of the great cult movies!

  • Haaeewuud! (English Translation: Hollywood) :D

  • an all-time favorite! if i find myself feeling a bit low for whatever reason, this film always makes me laugh and feel good all over again. love the musical score! to hell with the critics, lets see them make something better! thank you, steven spielberg.

  • He was the best thing about that film. Not suprised it was a flop, after watching the trailer.

  • One of my all-time favourite movies.

  • this movie is da best i have it

  • Because of Wild Wayne i became a pilot he was my inspiration when i was a kid back in 1979.

  • i saw that movie it was realy good

  • I LOVE THIS FILM

  • Love how he's "Wild Wayne" in this bit...
