The new album's an automatic purchase for me anyway. With this on there I will sprint, not walk, to pick up Sonik Kicks! I love having Weller stretch my ears & expectations! Good stuff.
"Sonic Kicks will be ground breaking"?? Ha Ha Fuck off!! This is nothing more than that shite David Bowie song Hallo Spaceboy crossed with some dreadful Beady Eye cack. How am I supposed to ponce around the gaff in me latest threads to this? I can't even fantasize about going down to Brighton on a Lammer cos I just keep thinking of Bowie singing into a lamp in highheels;)

Sounds excellent. Paul is trying something else. I love that. We have that historic sound, always there to come back to, but an artist must remain interested and changing - no other way.
whilsted all the people in the town said " the Emperor is wearing the finest clothes anyone has ever seen" a little boy said "the Emperor is wearing no clothes", all of the people looked again and they could see, that yes, the Emperor was not wearing any clothes. The people of the town felt very foolish indeed.
he's so different, but he's still good, consider him a new artist and then he's great, but if you're gonna compare this to Going Underground then ofcourse it's crap.
Hating can go to hell. Too caught up in The Jam that you can't see that Weller just keeps getting better and better. Sure, some of his material has been very BRAVE and certain elements of it haven't worked well but 90% of Wellers music is stunning. This is absolute brilliance.
i wanna drive my car round with a grimace and this on full blast , for some reason theres an angry tension in this love it ...delay good riff driving beat !!!! ace
Thankfully Paul is move forward ever faster and better for those who don't there is always lady Gaga or even G Numan who whatever else was an ok guy. I remember always wanting people to just repeat the winning formula then I matured and I wanted to here Boundaries pushed

Love this Mr Weller, can't see how anyone couldn't unless theyre not weller fans and just spoiling for a fight. As far as not keeping Jam fans happy, this couldve been a B side to Funeral Pyre? Come to think of it, couldve been the A side. Very sound affects / joy division etc. Well i'm happy.
Great vocals, he's having my money, might be the " 7 and 3 is the strikers name" part 2, and probably just a little album taster... but it shows someone who still has drive, passion and belief, plus utter disregard of what the VERY conformist elements of his fanbase want from him! You gotta love that attitude alone, even if you dont completly love the music!
The Jam played on the TV show, 'Something Else' in 1979 alongside Joy Division. I know Weller liked them. The late Mr Curtis would love this. I do too.
Is there anything more boring than cloth-eared Weller 'fans' who moan every time Weller releases new material. I guess you get used to it. To these 38 year-old ears, it's a slow burn growler that'll kick off live.
@Krudster Totally agree. The same fans who let out an audible groan at gigs when he plays things like Dust and Rocks (tune) and anything more contemporary. I understand that they have their memories of The Jam from back in the day but the appeal for me with Weller as much as anything is, his ability to move on and push boundaries.
@andylanc05 Quite. Has anyone else managed to maintain this level of consistent quality throughout their career? I can't think of many. Fair enough, the stylistic changes won't always please everyone, I accept that, but sometimes people come out with absolute shit about when he supposedly 'lost it' and just can't move on from The Jam. Their loss. All the solo albums have had inspired moments, and this one will be no different.
gr8 shout about ftj but lets not get into the tired old arguement.....& just sit back and acknowledge that this is WELLER_WORLD and hes all the better for it!
again the great man just ignites another firework into his musical inferno....hes having the time of his life & this shows......i
to all of you so called weller 'fans' that bitch & moan when he does something different, look in the mirror....are you still wearing the same clothes as 20 years ago? times change, it's about time you did. i like the fact that weller tries everything in his music these days, if it works for you, great! if not, tough shit!
The irony is his new stuff is more Jam-like in spirit than any of his earlier solo stuff, and yet his 'fans' still wanna hear music he made 20 years ago
