Sometimes the best person to run an organisation isn't the best practitioner. I've trained with Ohtsuka, Shiomitsu, Sugasawa etc. I respect all of them although this is no longer my style.
Always good to see martial art videos on youtube of any style. Ohtsuka has great knowledge and such people are rare. I guess he doesn't really need to show things too dynamically at his level.
Have you trained with all of these people to add validity to your statement or are you judging things based on videos. If you are judging things on videos alone then I suggest you would discard this one taken on my naff camera.
I have only trained with Supreme Master Otsuka and I think he is extremely talented. I haven't trained with any of the other people you mentioned so I am not qualified to make the judgment.
I have trained with all of them. Sukuki was the best--but he is a phenomenon. I have trained with Supreme Master Otsuka--but this was about 17 years ago when he was visiting the UK. It was in Shoimitsu's Dojo somewhere in Putney. I think he is head of Wado due to his dad rather than his ability--you must make your own decision. If he suits you and is a good instructor then stick with it Tony.
I thank you for your reasonable comment on this in that case but you must understand that Master Otsuka is still a very good Wado Practitioner and is capable of running the style and judging what is going on very well. The last time I trained with Master Otsuka he was wearing some pretty heavy duty knee braces and so I imagine he is being held back a lot with injuries at the moment.
I was at a tournament the other day and the guy that opened the tournament who I dont know but is highly respected in the Saga Ken Karate circuit could not actually stand without a walking stick. It does not take away from his ability to judge karate but he can no longer practice it.
Your experiences with the various masters I commend but can you see that it is kind of disrespectful to call a 73 year old master embarrassing just because he right now is not at his prime?
Not really--Sukuki is 80 and still outsatanding; as was Hironori Ohtsuka
Master Otsuka wasn't very good when in his 40s/50s. Isn't it disrespectfull to split up Wado and call yourself "Supreme Master" when there are better instructors around? I commend you for your loyalty and I accept that we will not agree on this matter - we tend to end up with a style/instructor by chance rather than design; I feel I was lucky to stumble across T Suzuki in the early 80s.
it sounds like a guy snoaring in the back ground, i'm sorry but this is boring, no sharpness, i no it's showing the moves properly, but as the guy below me said would he be in that position if he wenrt the establishers son???
Thanks for the feedback. From what I have seen from your profile you seem to like criticizing karate videos. I will take your feedback as that of an uninformed troll. Take care and work on your grammar.
Totally irrelevant. Everybody is different and in Japan there are still such old martial arts family traditions/protocols f.e like Soke title. It is just like that.
Beautiful! It's very intriguing to see how shihan let his body dance on the wonderful music of Wado Ryu. Thank you very much for posting this video Tony-san. Greetings from Belgium.
trainning - not competing. its about 'demonstrating'

Why?

He is the top man in Wado in Japan. His movements are average to poor and certainly not as good as Sugasaswa,Suzuki,Shoimitsu etc.
