  • Awesome vid made it so easy to pick up. Many thanks

  • gilmore doesn't bend on this tune--look at live pulse tour

  • On the Pulse tour he does bending too... so not sure what you're on about.

  • @GKFC , just saying that the bend that's very difficult because of your thick strings, Gilmore, just slides up instead of bending.

  • Not all the time. On the original he bends everything...

Downside- Comes with a price ... Which is Pain (during the sliding)

  • Hello Justin,

have the same question about the three notes before playing the last G note.

    Thanks so far!

  • So after you bend down at the end, what are the three notes you play leading to the G?

  • I got confused at 6:21,where you said it's the same as the 3rd section. What were the strings you played?

  • salut je ne parle pas englais mais j'ai aprie le solo de cette chanson grasse a

cette video je tan remercie grasse a toi maintenant je la fait complete merci encore et bonne reussite dans la guitare merci a plusse

  • **when you play the very first part of this (the first slide) i find it better to play it slower making it sound like three fast notes not one. it sounds better because that is how it is in the actual song (ONLY on first slide though anywhere else it sounds silly.)**

also don't do the bend if you're a beginner because i ended up breaking the string the first time so make sure you know what you're doing

  • @MrHippyhead if i was a beginner and didnt even know how to bend, I'm pretty sure i woulnt attempt this song

  • @a55edwards i was a begginer and couldn't even bend and i attemted this song, its really not hard

  • legend

  • Best youtube guitar tutorials in existance!

  • chears ,a lot ov help,

  • Bro that note you have trouble bending try bending it down I personally find it way easier. especially wehn getting towards the top strings.

  • Thanks Bro =]

  • My fingers hurt of playing all the time, not only this song but also other songs, but ecspecialy this song because you got to slice.. is it normal that they hurt or am I just pushing to hard on the strings? :)

  • @Rhodox01 It's normal for them to hurt, Especially with steel string guitars, Depends how long youve been playing for, Ive been playing 5 years, Andi barely feel a thing on my fingertips now, So Don't worry, It's normal. (:

  • @Rhodox01 Totally normal. Give it a few more weeks, and your fingers wont feel a thing when playing guitar.

  • hahaha the automatic closed captioning is so funnyy

what he really says "open g string slide back up back down open g string 5th fret 4th string 4th fret 3rd string"

according to google cc "back at the statment said. smart back up backed down, i do. let me thank you all spring forth ranked third string"

  • your style is so great! Thanks!!

  • your a boss

  • Justin you're the man! Your teaching skills are on point. Keep doin the damn thing!

  • Great Great lesson thnx!

  • Great Great lesson thnx!

  • i just watched a pink floyd video and david gilmour doesn't do that bend that tears up justin's fingers. it looks like he did it the "cheating" way. i may be wrong. im kind of a rook.

  • @colinrenteria2006 you're right, he slides for the live version

  • dudde ur th best teacher in the world

  • Did you try to play the 2 intro parts together?

Thats not easy but interesting to try.

I tried it but it's very difficult to play the second intro over the first (which I first taped) in the correct tempo.

Your video helpt me, but now I want to try the whole double intro...

  • lol you make this sound a lot easyer to under to stand... and to follow then most ppl do!!... so thanks!!.. =) thanks again!!!....

  • awesome and easy to follow lesson man,was tryin to learn this for a while, and all thanks to you i can play it now

  • thank you justin!!!

  • I just watched a video of Dave Gilmour doing this live and I was surprised to find that he didn't do that big note bend. He instead slid up the frets like you show as an alternative. Strange.

Great lesson btw, and love your site.

  • @mecon92 Performers can take luxuries in the studio that aren't as viable live. Playing the solo on a guitar with lighter strings on a separate track works in the studio, but live, you don't want to use light strings or chords will sound wimpier and buzz on the frets. So instead of doing the super bends, you do slides instead. It's easier and less tiring. Less true to the original work, but sometimes you have to make compromises when playing live.

  • Thanks from Portugal!!

    You're funny and a gr8 teacher :D ahah

  • thank a lot mann...really thanks im from argentina and i hab been looking lesson for all youtube xD

  • haha, i love how the cameraman always chuckles xD

  • thanks man!, cheers from Guatemala!!

  • it's not fret! He says Thread and Thread=Chords

  • Justin i love your lessons. Simple stupid method off getting it across without baffling brains with all the notes etc etc.

My playing has came on great with your tuition.

    Thanks

  • WOW! thank u pal! u r the best teacher!

P.D.: can u teach how to play layla acoustic on guitar? =S

  • I like your lessons, but why the hell are you saying the frets instead of the notes?

  • cause thats what they r called

  • Because many beginners don't understand tonic, or root notes of the pentatonic scale. They understand frets and basic chord shapes.

  • thanks from france you're very helpful !!!!!

  • the way you break it down is real helpfull keep it up!

  • You sir are my hero. Amazingly well taught solo. I learnt to play this in 45 mins with your help! 5/5 and keep rocking! :D

  • You really are a great teacher and your videos are just awesome!

  • Awsome lesson always loved the intro wanted to play it

  • awesome lesson

  • Don't feel bad about the slide... I've seen David play it both ways... Great lesson, dude

  • to finish it all off.. you should have done the whole song all the way through from start to finish as if you was performing the song..

  • Thank you so much for your time. Your vid tutorial has been a great help in many different ways.

  • thanks. this helped alot ;)

  • You are great! (and cute ;-)) Thanks for your videos!!

  • Okay, so I haven't found anyone on youtube who has covered how to do the second solo/interlude between verse one and two...could we get a little something like that, maybe on the website or something?

  • Ur video lessons are truly awesome.. hav learned a lot frm those... ummm.... if possible could you upload a nice lesson on "Lost for words" solo from Pink Floyd.. A humble request from a Pink Floyd lover.

    Keep rocking :)

  • way to go, guy. this is great

  • what are the tabs for 9:09? before he transitions in the G chord.

seems like he didn't cover it on the video how to play that particular part

  • You got me lost when you started going on about flicking.. like what the hell are you flicking? .-.

  • Hes talking about using your left hand, 3rd finger, to flick the string right after picking it with the right hand. So youre not using your right hand after the initial pluck for that portion, you 'flick' with your left fingers.

  • the propper term is "Pull off". youy know like hammer on and pull off?

  • his bean.....

  • that was the hardest part of the song but ur explaining very well !

  • WHAA HOOO

    I can do this now!!

    Thanks Justin

  • im playing that same strat thats on the stand behind him =)

  • to justify my earlier comment that got spammed, when I said plug in the electric guitar to play those notes I meant because he said his strings were to heavy to bend

  • What a riot! Justin, you are so cool, and funny, and a great, great teacher. I love my guitar. I practice every day. My fingers are comfortably numb and this is a wonderful trip. Thanks!

  • @writeDVD AHHHH nice pink floyd reference dont say im the only one who caught that

  • @MrHippyhead

I can't not smile when I look at Justin in this video.

  • dave gilmour doesnt do thoes bends he slides instead

  • listen to the record

  • I believe he bends, then slides

  • You look stoned in the beginning :)

  • you are soo good thanks

  • Thank you

  • U R THE BEST TEACHER EVER!! i cannot play the guitar at all and have just got mine and now i can play this!! GENIOUS MAN!

  • Hi justin, i'm a beginner and i learned a lot from your videos , all i can say is "GOD SAVE JUSTIN!!"

there is a little problem i can't bend my strings is there any way that i can train my fingers for a best bend technique ???

    thanks ^^

  • There isn't really a way to improve bending other than to do it a lot. Most bends go a whole step up, so go up 2 frets, see what the note is, then go back down and see if you can bend exactly to that note. It's important to get the right note when you bend. ITmight also be that your strings are too thick. Most acoustic guitars have strings that are hard to bend, if you use an electric it should be easier. Besides that, don't worry, after a while bending becomes much easier. Hope this helped =)

  • Then GOD SAVE JUSTIN !

    thanks !

i play wish you were here for my father he told this is the good music of my time !

    he was impressed !!

    thanks again !!!

  • i dont no if u hav tried ro not but u can try adding some of ur other fingers to the bend to add more strenght to it

  • I did with one finger it's hard but i got the tune !

thanks for your help now i'm learnin' comfortably numb from your video !

man the solo of comfortably numb is so ......... there is no word to express the goodness sorry !!!

  • Thx for da help, u rok!

  • hard to bend with a 12 string

    :(

  • That's why that passage is played on a six string on the song. It's possible to do the bend on 12-string, but it's hard to keep the unison strings from going too far out of tune from one another and starting to sound shitty. You have to have an iron grip on them!

I'm doing it right now, and there's no way I'd be able to pull it off without sounding crappy at speed. Just use a six string for that part, your fingers will thank you.

  • agreed no one can teach like this

  • best guitar teacher in the world.

  • love ya

  • Awesome lesson!!!!

  • Thank you

  • Grat teacher...grats and thanks!!

  • u're sooo cute *-* and u have helped me a lot!! :D thank you thank you thank you!

  • sei un mostro di bravura compà............sto imparando grazie a te una canzone fantastica thanks

  • umm...theres an electric guitar in the background. he could bend that note on the electric??

  • Justin thanks , my mates where well impressed when i pulled the solo out , bearing in mind I'm a beginner and this is first solo I have learnt. Most can't play it and they where asking me for advice . Cant wait to play this to my folks when I next go over to Ireland , they brought me and my bro's and sister up on The Floyd !
