Basically, Type 1 civilization can harness and control the power of the planet. Type 2 of a solar system. Type 3 of the universe. Because of most of the star system were formed from the collapsed Molecular cloud, which is Hydrogen. By counting the Size of the stars, we can compute the possibility of the distance planet around it. The possibility here mean the limit, which allow the star system to be stable, otherwise, it collapses.

Basically, Type 1 civilization can harness and control the power of the planet. Type 2 of a solar system. Type 3 of the universe. It is not that much of a far-fetch prediction, but a simple reasonable postulation of natural progression of technological advancement.

@ktchong I don't find it reasonable, and there's really no logic behind it, just sci-fi fantasy. Maybe we can find a way to harness the energy of the earth in the future to some degree. We have solar powered cars, can seed clouds with some accuracy, and are working on using geo-thermal energy. However, to "theorize" (i use the word liberally here) we can gain control of a solar system or an entire universe is nothing more than a ego-fueled wet dream at this point.

Capitalism, or better yet, the profit motive and the need for money to survive is a far bigger obstacle. I realise its not just his opinions but if these were speculations of scientists i would be so very dissapointed beacuse of the lack of imagination in humanities scientists. mutliplying robots?? i mean that could happen yeah but, how the hell can WE even imagine what kind of methods a type 3 civilization could invent?? As humanity we should be more aware of the fact that we can not guess, cuz we do NOT know a lot of the facts.

Those who oppose the transition from type 0 to type 1 are not the "terrorist"
but fucking corporations like BP and people like George W Bush and his friends (the top 1% that control 50% of the wealth) Those people fear the transition because they want to remain THE LEADERS. A type1 civilization has no leaders. Decisions are being made by scientist based on facts and not ideologies. Also a type 1 Cvl does not uses money. it just uses his resources. We are still in the monetary system mr. Kaku.

Furthermore, new life still growing up. In the multiple genesis conceprt, different forms of life may have appeared quasi-simultaneously in the early history of Earth. The other forms may be extinct, leaving distinctive fossils through their different biochemistry (e.g., using arsenic instead of phosphorus), survive as extremophiles, or simply be unnoticed through their being analogous to organisms of the current life tree. (wikipedia copy, LOL) So I can say, we are not alone in this world

haha, just watch the interviews, seriously there are several ways for scientists bend their point of view so it can suit to more-than-3-dimension space. The easiest one is cheat your mind, put it in lower dimension then think about what lifes are there, then step up to higher dimension. If you need extraodinary evidence, plese read the book Elegent Universe, Brian Greene (in fact, this guy is much better than Kaku).

@insanewarlock666 nah, there are 2 most important thing for life: the size and the mass of the star. Because of most of the star system were formed from the collapsed Molecular cloud, which is Hydrogen. By counting the Size of the stars, we can compute the possibility of the distance planet around it. The possibility here mean the limit, which allow the star system to be stable, otherwise, it collapses.

By calculating the distance and the size of the star to the planet, we can calculate the amount of energy it receives, or contains.

the earth magnetic field switched many tim in the past, it take 2000 years for the magnetic field at the equator become 0 and 11000 years for Poles. So, as you said, we dont have a chance to araise do we.
furthermore the solar wind (star wind)- the million-kilometre-an-hour stream of hydrogen and helium nuclei from the star - wraps itself around the Planet in a way that induces a magnetic field in the ionosphere. In fact, we dont need mag field
