They use glass made out of sugar in movies and stunts and stuff, is supposed to shatter really easily, i guess it didnt that time XD Looked like it was made from rubber or something, the way it bounced

In the audio commentary of this episode on DVD Andrew did say it was meant to break and did hurt him. You can see him cringe quite realisticly.

Poor Andrew! The boys probably asked the props department for a "stunt bottle" to hit someone over the head with and the people took them to mean a rubber bottle. (Sugar glass bottles are very expensive compared to rubber ones.) Chas picked it up assuming it was sugar glass and hit Andrew hard enough to break it - hard enough to hurt him with the rubber bottle which it in fact was. They wouldn't have rehearsed of course as that would have broken the bottle.

I think you'll find they ment the kind of glass bottles they use in movies and tv shows when they smash it on someones head, the ones that are designed to smash easily with out doing any real damage to the person being hit
