The accompaniment here is superb, and the singer sings with real power. Maybe she would be good as Oberto, but all I know is that I enjoyed this very much
Oh you have no idea how jealous I am of you European Baroque lovers! But then also I'm ever so grateful for your generosity to share all these wonderful performances with the less fortunate (e.g., Brooklynite like me).
Having said that, I find this singer not fully equipped for Serse. Simply too feminine and youthful to my ears. She'd be perfect as Oberto (Alcina). Even Il Giardano Armonico sounds to me pretty thin and underpowered, surprisingly, almost like a small ensemble.
For me as well 1. Marie-Claude (although the only H aria I've ever heard from her), then Ann Murray (had almost forgotten how good she actually was, after 13yrs or so).
Without any doubt for me, Madame Chappuis has the best accompaniment. I love this violin player e.g. at 2:14 when she sings aspergetemi. Or transitions like 2:48 ... so rarely heard!!
She hardly sounds convincing as a desperately disappointed king. The timbre is too thin.

her straight tone on the word "datro" when she sings the D is slightly flat. she's sitting on the lower end of the overtones.

Man, I love how aggressive the orchestra is with this! The singers also got such a clean coloratura.

Hi M. and tx a lot for sending me this excellent version! It found me right in my Serse nostalgy, coincidence or telepathy?
Btw, Madame Chappuis seems to HOST this Lied Festival. Definitely the best singing host I've ever heard :-))

obviously it's telepathy ;-)

Well, if you lived in the neighbourhood, you would have heard of my Serse days ;-)

Hey plmplp, I was wondering if you could send me the mp3's of this if you have it and if it's not too much trouble.
Thanks,
LN.

True, she sounds very juvenile. Hmm ... for me still OK, as Serse is not a villain, although he swears to be one at the moment of this aria, haha.
Anyhow, GREAT idea to cast this lady as Oberto. Good and challenging role. 100% youthful :-)
Why are we never asked here???

Great! I love this aria! Her voice is so fluid sounding! Was this the full opera? If so I need to know that cast so I can request some more lol

Hillevifan, I was waiting for this comment, haha. Unfort. only a recital/concert where this was the only Handel :-((
Have btw never heard (of) her before, but she convinced me already with this aria.
What's your fav Crude Furie version?
Gudrun74 3 years ago
Anne Sofie von Otter and Ann Murray were tied before- but Marie-Claude has just bumped Ann Murray out of her spot lol
BTW I posted some scenes from La Clemenza di Tito with her as Annio

Agreed, the orchestra is awesome, the singers interpretation could be a bit more furious though, she sounds too beautiful :P
