  • looks safe

  • Why the blade is so big? Do they know about cordless chop saw?

  • A middle aged man died today when he tripped and fell into his wood saw. Details at 11.

  • Looks dangerous, but so is a chainsaw

  • Comment removed

  • Ooh there's SOooo many ways that that could go wrong

  • Where could i get something like this for mine?

  • Nothing wrong with a set-up like that as long as you don't use it right after eating a big lunch.

  • c est bien il a penser aux lunettes et au casque de protection a par ca rien de dangereux!!

  • Looks like a good way to get yourself gutted!

  • What is the RPM of that blade?

  • Tata tez taką piłe miał :)

  • Comment removed

  • pretty funny all these know it alls really know nothing in the first place these kind of saws were built because chain saws in those days were a handfull and two people on this saw could realy go through some wood. i'm sure osha would have a hemorage today, it would be fun to see one with all of todays safety standards on it

  • in germany impossible because of safty fail

  • I wanna give it a hug!

  • looks very dangerous

  • scary, crazy etc.

  • who eles wants to see him back that thing into some ones car

  • @1overthehillsfaraway I have a chainsaw. I want to pick up the wood so I don't have to be bent over all day. That's great that you know all about saw rigs like these, however, you don't know all about my back.

  • @grandfatherjim i agree with you on this one. not as loud, safer, doesn't need to be sharpened nearly as often, and unless you feel like bending down all day, this is the way to go.

  • @1overthehillsfaraway I have a rig similar to this and they are better and faster than a chainsaw. I use mind a bit differently though. If you stand in front of the saw and hold the short piece of wood as well as the log, instead of letting the cut piece of wood fall to the ground you toss it straight into the trailer. Of course my saw has a better guard but its very similar. For a chainsaw to cut quickly you have to spend time stacking it properly. I spend that time cutting wood.

  • @1overthehillsfaraway Also I have cut around 30 tons of wood with my saw and never once have I sharpened the carbide teeth, When I cut wood with one of my 3 chainsaws I have to sharpen quite often, more cutting time lost.

  • @anthony9thompson I know why people use saw rigs like this... it is because they are familiar with them and were introduced to them back in the day when they were an improvement over the existing technology. Then chainsaws came into general usage, what a wonderful thing they are too. Still, some old timers keep on using these saw rigs and try to convince themselves it is an easier way somehow. I've fell timber professionally for 25 yrs and I can tell you chainsaws are faster, easier and safer!

  • @1overthehillsfaraway I stand by my original comments.I have a 3 Sthil chainsaws and I cut quicker and easier with my stationary saw. If i have a couple of logs just lying around I will use a chainsaw. But if I have a big pile of randomly piled wood I use the stationary saw. I was only given my stationary saw 2 years ago and I love it.

  • @1overthehillsfaraway Are you serious? Its a Fergi Tractor mate, awesome set up.

  • does the job, and for a change, someone is using eye and ear protection whilst operating machinery. thumbs up

  • Cool !!!! I want one for my tractor. Ive never seen this before.

  • Very nice, I like dangerous equipment

  • Oh, good tractor ;)

  • This was before chainsaws were invented!

  • Its cool but defiantly not osha approved!

  • i want one

  • Nice and we had the same setup using a 1932 Indian motorcycle engine.

  • PERFECT FOR YOUR EX WIFE! LMAO

  • good luck with the 20+ inch logs lol

  • o kurrr... z czymś takim parkowanie tyłem nie stwawrza problemu ;d

  • @IzTam89 You said it!

  • You all are fucking morons.... This mechine is AMAZING,, With me my dad and my brother in law. My dad has 40 years on with chain saws. My bro in law 15 And me 10... And Truthfuly Are wood production is SLOW.. But if i had somthing like this! Holy shit. We could produce more firewood than we could sell! Great mechime man!!!!

  • Hell yeah! I have a 1950 TO20 starts right up after 6 months of sitting.

I would love to put it to more use.

  • Ever have a problem with it kicking when you hit a nail or a piece of fence in the wood?

  • dont trip on a shoelace.

  • It is rally amazing how little confidence people have in their own ability to take precautions to protect themselves. It seems that there are a lot of people that do not understand they need to be their own safety manager. Guards are nice & have their place in life but IF you do not know to be safe while using a tool or piece of equipment then you should not be working with it. I will watch out for my self & "IF I" mess up, (LIKE I HAVE IN THE PAST), I will not blame it on the product. Grow some

  • @specialks1953 yep. on some of our shop machinery, the guards make the too 10 times more dangerous, or just impossible to use properly. they put guards on at the factory for one reason: fear of lawsuits. they know you cant use them in the real world... but if they supply them and you throw them away, then it aint their fault, or so they will argue.

  • @bulletman100 - Have a good one bulletman100. - I remove most guards and safeties as soon as I buy a new tool. I watch out for my own safety because I don't rely on a nanny to take care of me. I laugh when I read comments about the dangers of people working with their home made or old style tools. Those comments made by people that have to have someone protect them from their own stupidity or inability to foresee dangers and take approriate precautions for themselves.

  • @specialks1953 Exactly. Why can't other people just learn to be careful and not make mistakes ? Well, I did know one guy...I think his name was "Stumpy".

  • i would be scared out of my mind to do that

  • i think it is great. Be careful, but it looks pretty good.

  • great piece of equipment,

built to last, and made in the days when people were smart enough not to need a warning lable and safety guard on every moving part

  • I just came in from using mine behind my 2N. Chainsaws are for felling and limbing. Tractors are for splitting and sawing to length. Will outlast the chainsaw as well. I use the Atom Splitter on my post hole digger to spit the wood in 4, 6 or 8' lengths, then saw it up after it's dry. That's my system & I'm sticking with it.

  • @ostrand11 why would you split large logs, then saw later? You end up with much more handling (inefficient).

  • thats no more dangerous than a chainsaw to the unskilled, its as good as nessasary.

  • that's preee epic

  • All accidents with machinery are preventable. Before working with such machinery, take the time to make sure your work area is free of unneccessary debree. Make sure your machines as well as yourself are on stable ground before use. When your drop area starts to get full, stop your machine and wait for the blade to spin down before you start to remove the wood. Safety is common sense. There are no such things as deadly machines, just deadly people so take your time and if someone wants done

  • @dendog21 faster than is safe, then refuse the job and tell them to find someone else.

As old and crude as this type of machinery is, it will last a hell of a lot longer than modern equipment that is designed to break down

  • Very cool old equipment! How is it driven off the PTO? Right angle gearbox? I want one (have a restored 9N)!!!

  • @eddiesautoworks It runs off of a belt pulley attached to the pto

  • @eddiesautoworks Yes, there is a right angle drive mounted on the 4 bolts around the pto.

  • More Deaths Happen At Home and on farms than Construction sites.Don't tripp on that pile of timber!

  • i think it is actually really neat never seen one that would be alot easy than a 20lb chainsaw and you aint got to bend over and you aint got to worrie bout geting your chain in the dirt i like it

  • cool! old stuff is awesome! how often do you use it?

  • death metal !!!!!!! saw!!!

  • saw looks pretty dangerous. but then again its a saw, designed to cut things. any saw can kill you if you dont know how to use it or use it like an idiot.

only way i can really see that it might be more dangerous than like a chain saw is the fact the blade is always spinning. not just when your cutting. but a chainsaw is more danerous than this in other ways.

if used carefully this is perfectly fine. got similar sort of things on my farm

  • imagine falling face first into that

  • that thing is really cool

  • I have 2 of them and they are great. My back dosen't kill me at the end of the day.

  • Awesome vid... ya know .. its only as dangerous as the person operating it.... looks fairly safe to me.. If you don't like it, go buy a lil' electric chainsaw. or better yet.. hire someone who knows what their doing. Honestly do some ppl think we should wrap ourselves with bubble paper?? Keep up the good work Jim. again .. awesome vid.

  • More like cut two fingers

  • He told you.... \/ \/ \/

  • I have a friend that have somthin simular. the blade makes so mutch friktion that it's nott safe to use. he Change the blade to a new one blade of coromant and Damn no friktion at all cut like buter. sorry if my english is bad.

  • thats like somthing ud see in a scary movie

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink

ergonomically retarded. ?? as opposed to a chainsaw ?

This is what is wrong with America ! Leave the man alone . He knows the risks . I did not see anybody else there who might fall into the blade. If you want to be safe then you need to move to Great Britain where everybody wears bright orange safety vests.

Or perhaps you already live there ?

    Great Video Thanks for sharing.

  • @EarlRausch Your right Sir, I do live in Little Britain, and you are right that everybody does wear bright orange vests. The 'health and safety' in the UK is a madness that is making me want to emigrate. I hate it all... to try and reason with people is impossible, they love their new fluorescent uniform; it makes them feel important. A shame! Regarding the sawbench, I do actually like the machine, but being a tree cutter myself for 31 years, I know that unguarded spinning blades are lethal.

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink

I see where you are coming from. GB used to make the best cars and bikes. Even today F1 is dominated by engineers from GB. I have owned many British cars in my 55 years, And I loved everyone.one of them Me loving the car however was not returned in kind by the car, there was many a time I was stranded by one thing or another, Lucas electrics mostly :)

I watched a video of a guy in GB who was a tree cutter and the way he made a wall out of trees was awesome tree alive !

  • no more dangerous than me

    -jdat747

  • I have used a cord wood saw very much like this one for years and had no accidents and my brother who thaught it was too dangerous so was using a chain saw nearly had his arm removed when the saw kicked back

so who do you think is right

  • that has to be the scariest looking contraption i have seen in a long time

  • @Xaiano lol you should get outside of your home sometimes xD

  • @Xaiano this form of cordwood saw has been around long enough to have antique versions of it.

  • Great Saw Set Up & tractor...great Video......and I especially like how you "Cut Up" the idiots who have to give their stupid comments on something they know nothing about......well done.

  • wow, nice solution for cutting!

yea it IS a bit unsafe, but hey, don't trip!

this could also probably serve to power a big flywheel for powering older belt equipment!

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink Hideous is a term usually reserved for something or someone's appearance. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I happen to like it.

Scrap it? Let me think....no, thanks for the suggestion but I don't think I will.

Desperately slow? Compared to what? Seems fine for me.

However, from your comment, I would not recommend you get one of these.

  • @grandfatherjim Hideous refers to the injury someone, maybe not you, will receive from this machine sometime in the near or distant future. Scrap it, or give it to a museum before it is too late. Be a responsible grandfather

  • @grandfatherjim yeah i mean we all know its not the the fastest thing on the planet or we would still be doing it like this today but i do think its cool to see someone using this old stuff and what was dude talking about trip and fall into the blade? ha better watch your step i guess if you cant watch what your doing then you better stay away from this thing at all cost cause ur going to die if you dont pay very close attention

  • @grandfatherjim Well put , if we all lived in fear of tripping onto a saw blade ( what are the odds) we would be in a terrible way eye protection ,ear protection , i think you know what you are at.

Good vid nice tractor i have a 35x which i will restore as soon as funds allow.

  • @grandfatherjim I totally agree with you grandfatherjim. There are so many people that don't realize that tools like this were once on every farm across the country. My grandfather had one and he never cut himself with it. You have to be smarter than the machine is all...Nice video, thank you for posting it!

  • @grandfatherjim - You are so correct in pointing out the use of the term hideous to the IDIOT. I love the practical use of the cutter you are using. I would not only NOT SCRAP IT, I would search for parts to keep it in good repair so your decendants will be able to use it in the future, if you love them. They may need such a tool in their future if ocrappa and libs get their way. I am very fond of good simple equipment & an respectful of proper use of equipment. Thank you for your video post.

  • @specialks1953 Don't have to worry about "ocrappa and libs". We don't all live in the USA....

  • @grandfatherjim - I really like your saw, it is so practicle. I am afraid ocrapa and the libs here are screwing up things all over the world. There doesn't seem to be anywhere he/they have not caused problems. Good luck in your beautiful country and take care of the good old equipment you own. I like your snowblower too. God Bless.

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink I feel I have to say that you're kind of a jerk, I think this thing is awesome. If you think you could rustle up something that is so much better I would love to see it.

  • @ibbiggs What has the word 'jerk' got to do with spurt... that is what someones blood will do when (not if) they trip and stumble against an exposed blade such as this. There are trip hazards everywhere. Something much better would have a guard fitted. It would also be sharp.

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink all safety guards should be sharp in my opinon

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink Another know it all retard

  • @bofts I happen to cut up and sell firewood for a living, amongst other things. Nature abhors blunt machines and dummies like you. May you be fed to this contraption before breakfast

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink Trip?? Why would you trip?? Stay sober when your working if you have a hard time standing up. Hideous?? It's not there to look at, it's doing the job.. rusty or not.

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink Slow don't think it does to bad since it is running off a tractor that only turns 800 rpm. chainsaw turn about 8000rpm or even higher not sure. This does not cut much slower. Even professional loggers that use logging arms those blades only turn 1500 rpm and will cut a hell of alot faster than a chiansaw will. Key is torque that is what this tractor has with chainsaw you mostly rely on hp not torque.

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink Ergonomically retarded? In what way? You don't handle the saw...you bring the wood to it.

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink For a guy that calls himself "More Time Than You Think," the "desperately slow" statement is a little rich.

This is old-school hardware, where you're expected to be careful and take some responsibility for your own safety. It gets the job done as quickly and safely as the operator is quick and safe. If I had an attachment like this for my rig, I'd use it and in similar manner - from well off to the side, like this guy is doing.

  • @elhigh Remember what happened to Johnny Cash's brother?

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink no, what?

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink YIKES. Slow? Trip hazard can be EASILY mitigated. For that size wood, he is cutting fast, yet at a leisurely, safe pace. "Ergonomically retarded"? How so? I'm surprised you didn't cry about the tractor polluting.

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink - Why can't you libs leave good people the work you are not willing to try? This man can take care of himself. If by some chance he stumbles or falls over into the blade, what the fuck business is it of yours. Are you so caring that you can't stand to see anyone fall victom to natural results of the risk of getting off their ass and doing something positive? - Get off your high horse and let people make mistakes (if needed) and do what you can to avoid making your mistakes.

  • @MoreTimeThanYouThink your an idiot

  • @MegaDylan19 you're. ***

  • Great Saw, Great Tractor & Great Video...Some guys Just Don't Get it.

  • deth mashine much safer is chain saws

  • great comment!

  • very good saw can get alot of work done in a little time much faster than a chain saw nice video thanks

  • I have one and I love it, it is great for cutting slab wood. But you do need to be carefully because it is not forgiving. I still have all my fingers and I hope to keep it that way.

  • I'm not sure if I'd have the guts to go and use that thing...

  • Yeah! Defintely do not trip over a log and go torso first into that 36" blade!

  • i'm scared...seems like every time i cut wood i trip over stupid logs ... i' kill myself, around that thing...lol

great video ... thanks for sharing! i love ford tractors 2n, 8n, 9n

  • ohh this is heavy

  • I have lost count of the hours I have spent since age 12 (I am now 67) cutting wood with one of these, no guards, and I have all my fingers. They can "ring" as they cut and we didn't know about hearing protection back then, so I say "huh?" a lot.

  • Thoes saws are much easier than a chain saw. At least for the smaller stuff. Nice saw I have a simular set up.

  • i like the saw guard, it keeps the tractor from harm.

  • Nice Saw... And you still have all your fingers!

  • a machine is only dangerous if its not used properly

  • dude that seems unnecessary for the amount of danger involved. why not just use a chain saw?

  • oh s..t i cut my arm of.

  • that thing is deadly, chainsaw is just as quick

  • and just as deadly

  • @grandfatherjim very nice saw i was wondering how big would a 1 cylinder gas engine have to be for it?

my great grandpa has one i would like to restore but it runs off of a 1 cylinder gas engine he said any help i would appreciate

  • @seume a butter knife is deadly in the wrong hands...if you can't work safely around it, then don't. Leave it to more capable men.

  • It's a standard tractor mounted circular saw and they have been in useby thousands of people for 60 years that I know of. Some people have jobs to do and and cutting wood is one of them.

You are all acting like the little kids that see milk coming from a cow for the first time,. NO it is NOT made in shops, and wood does not come ready cut into usable sized pieces.

If you don't like this, don't ever visit a saw mill.

    Nasty , nasty saws.

  • very usefull if your in traffic and the jackass behind keeps honking his horn

  • what happens if you trip and fall?

  • you lose

  • @fukiu45 That is why you stand to side, and not directly in front of, the big metal spinny thing. ;)

  • One word dude...STIHL..before you chop youself in two.

  • I love your tractor...

  • Please remember that when the saw was built it was top of the line.

    Nice set-up you have there.

    could watch this all day.

Just bought a buzzsaw from a friend and i will be using it to cut slabs from my sawmill and the branches from the tree tops.

    Thanks Alot Mr Mom4

  • If you like the speed that saws like this provide. Try a Marwood saw.

  • You can keep that mate.. No way

  • I have a sawmill and work with all sorts of machines, some fail health and saftey standards, what you are working there is a death trap and for a little money you could have some thing much better.

  • yeah...some more guards wouldn't go astray

  • wheve gote one to, me and my dad just welded one togeter, and it is awesome

  • damn... one false move.... and then its more of a meat grinder than anything

  • I don't think, there is a guard before the blade so really the only chance of being hurt is by slipping into it, and you would think any sane person would cut on level ground. Seems as safe as a chain saw, but definatly more slow and more handling of the wood.

  • that sure does look like an 8 n ford tractor, i have a 2n and i know the difference.

  • ..but it's neither; it's a Ferguson. Made in England with an overhead valve engine - more torque than the 8N, but otherwise very similar, even share some parts in eth hydraulic system

  • you need a splitting screw welding to the middle of the blade haha complete machine!

  • would hate to trip and fall onto it lol

  • yhe its great but today the darn workers dont have brains so you really need a idiot proof machine

  • legend! is that the ferguson saw on a 35! we have exactly the same on a 35 goldbelly! still going strong

  • No, it's a 1952 TEA20, a bit older than the saw itself.

    Jim

  • I want one of those so bad I can smell it :)

  • When people say mind your fingers...well, mind your hand, mind your arm, mind your head and mind your torso while your at it.

  • I reckon the saw was made to have the operator in front of the feed swinging table, it would make a lot more sense, as also more comfortable and better grip for the operator, but it would make the all thing even more dangerous. I appears that the operator is in an damn uncomfortable position, with difficult control of the front of the log. Just my opinion, as I never seen one of these, before.

Anyway, a lot better than by hand...!!!

    Cheers

    GV

  • I'm sure you're right, and most of the time that's how I do it, but I was standing aside so that people watching the video could see what's going on better.

It is dangerous alright, but then the alternative is a chainsaw - no mistakes allowed in either case!

    Jim

  • This looks like the old tractor I could have while working in the woods

  • What is that noise

  • I hear two noises. The rumbling in the background is the tractor running, and the intermittent noise is the saw cutting through the wood. For some reason it has gotten out of sync with the video though.

    Jim
