  • Yes there was a Caledonian Steampacket Company, and the "Waverly" was one of their ships, about 1973 the Company was bought by the competitor David MacBrayne turning into Caledonian MacBrayne Ltd.

The Caledonian was by the way a part of the Caledonian Railway.

I had the melody on a tape but never (untill now) found out who made it, I'm happy to have found it again. Greetings Lars.

  • This song was track 3 on the first side of Gallagher and Lyles first ever album, which I loved dearly--I'd love to get S & G's early stuff on CD--but it seems all you can get is greatest packages---I loved this stuff

  • Remember great holidays at Millport too! Remember great G&L concerts at Glasgow City Halls, with Jimmy Jewel playing sax (is that correct?)

  • Yay! Feel as if I'm right there on deck with the breeze whipping through my hair when I hear this.

BTW was/is there really a Caledonia Steam Packet Company?

  • yes the caledonia steam pkt merged with david macbrayne to form caledonian macbrayne as it is still today

  • When I was a child, my family used to do the crossing from Gourock to Dunoon and Helensburgh a lot on summer holidays. One of the reasons I liked this song!

  • The Crocodile rock in Millport brought back a lot of memories. Thanks Steve from Sheila, Ontario, Canada.
