It doesn't surprise me that a large percentage of the Hikikomori are young men.Japan has very high expectations for men to get a high level education and eventually work long hours. Most of them were probably social misfits in school who were bullied and then became recluse.
I honestly believe that Japan would definitely benefit from reading from Hindu literature. The Bhagavad Gita, for example, is a story where Arjuna and Krishna go to war with the Kauravas. Arjuna, an experienced warrior, felt compassion and refused to fight because the Kauravas were Arjuna's cousins. Krishna told him to fight because it was his duty. The war had to be waged because the Kauravas were wrong. Maybe the youth will benefit from reading the Bhagavad Gita and the messages they convey...
What I find problematic about group harmony is, not only does one's true feelings may not be expressed, there will be those who will work around it, if they are interested in ruining someone. There are always be work-arounds if one is willing. One may follow group harmony, but the bad guy was using it against the victim.
That former hikikomori should have done something back at him. Trample on him for trying to destroy your life. This is a world where the strong are favored and the weak are eaten. It's a harsh reality.
If Christianity helps these people, then go ahead and help. The religion doesn't matter, they need reassurance and comfort. Hell, it could be Muslim and I still wouldn't care as long as these people are happy.
@poleag Exactly they have to inject religion in everything. When I was homeless I refused to go to shelters because every shelter wanted to indoctrinate me with Christianity.
Why are there so many anti-Christian comments? OMF is a Christian Mission work organization. I understand that most people wouldn't realize that fact by just looking at the title. But after watching it... why can't they respect other people's beliefs?
The OMF are helping these people out of the hard, socially cut-off lives they lived before. Be happy for these people, regardless of your beliefs. :)
Reeks of christian brainwashing. But if that is what it takes to help individuals out of there own personal hell - so be it. You can tell that the young man in the video was genuinely healed and full of hope (for the future), and that's wonderful to see: those are the kind of people I'd like to hang out with. I'm not a christian btw. ;)
I might have been a hikikomori! My first few years after high school were a terror for me. Most of the time I didn't want to be outside, and I'd get irritated or angry when people would talk to me. I'm no where near being a Japanese, but I can relate to it.
Whooooaaaaa, Jesus came right out of left field. For Christ's sake, that was surprising. "Yeah, this condition is serious, and a dedicated counselor is required to bring them out of their shell and accept Jesus so they don't burn in hell."
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS... Can you say OPPORTUNISM??? Taking desperate emotionally repressed shut-ins and telling them that the invisible man in the sky loves them???? What a joke. I wish there WAS a hell for these Christian degenerates to go to. You are EVIL PEOPLE.
Christian propaganda? Which part? The hikikomori problem, or the fact that having a hope and a future can impact lives for the better? If you choose not to believe in Jesus, then that's your decision. But for pete's sake, don't bash someone who has helped a hurting person cope with the real world. If Christianity helped him, then why is it so wrong to share that with others who may find that same hope and encouragement?
@childofinfinity Perhaps their problem is the fact that these Christians are going out of their way to find the emotionally repressed and vulnerable people in society, and trying to convert them to their religion? If you choose to believe in Jesus, then that's your decision. But for pete's sake, don't prey on the vulnerable.
The lady is Korean. Korean people are hardcore Christians and they are very agressive when it comes to recruiting new members. I heard they actually send out more missionaries than America.
@e4rthw0rm Haha yeah your right ;D i dunno why relgion always has to get into it.... but tbh even saying that. If it helps people, no matter how strongly i feel against the religion and their evil ways ....i think its nice that it has helped somebody somewhere :) even if it 'is' infact a load of shite
it was all good... until they brought religion into it. then it just went down hill from there.

So you take someone who already doesn't have strong mental defences and introduce them to one of the most poisonous religions on the planet?
