Fender > Gibson. Don't buy Gibson; in order to be a dealer now, you need to buy 100,000 k worth of their gear, effectively making it impossible for mom and pop shops to carry their products. Now you have the pleasure of buying a Les Paul from some dick at Guitar Center, who's making a commission on the sale, a 15 year old from Best Buy, or (my favorite) online! I love paying $2,500 for a guitar I've never played.
