"the violin is much in the same condition as when it left the maker's hands". Really? the neck angle has been altered; the fingerboard has been replaced, is longer than the original and made from different wood; the (new) bridge hasn't even been made after the original Stradivari pattern; the soundbar (inner structure under the top plte) has probably been replaced with a heavier, thicker one. It's an exceptionally beautiful instrument, but please don't say it looks like what it was when new!
@JohnTestling he didn't say the ENTIRE violin was in much the same condition, JUST the boards and purfling. Listen to the Goddamn clip again before you try to make yourself look like an expert; you just sound like a fucking retard.
@onabead Antonio Stradivari was not a violinist, he was what is known as a luthier, or violin maker. In fact, he's the most famous violin maker in the world.
@1stab that was done because at the time stradivari made the violin the necks went straight in to the body and a maple wedge put on to raise the finger board to the proper angle then some time in its history when it became customary to have the neck enter the body at an angle it was changed like you may see that a scroll was grafted on to keep the original scroll but also allow for this conversion
@knight10666 You're absolutely correct. My comment referred to how badly the work was done. There are many extensions that are barely perceptible in that the adjoining parts are perfectly flush and the finish is "spot on."

It's a shame so few Stradivarius ever get played. It's like clipping the wings on a bird so they cant fly...

@dziady1 but why? The proceeds went to help human beings from the tsunami crisis in Japan.
