Looking at this clip, I can see why they decided to tape the English-speaking one in Montreal. It was obviously because they already had the set for it, plus it was lower cost to the production company then if they moved it to Los Angeles.
He's from Montreal, so what do you expect? Along with Ottawa, Montreal is one of the most bi-lingual cities in Canada. Lalonde also was a singer, mainly in French, but some English too.
@gshowguy As a bit of an amendment to my comment from a few months ago, I looked it up and both the English and French versions lasted exactly the same amount of time on the air. Because Geoff Edwards was hosting the English version, and he was American, that is why announcer Rod Chalabois also acted as co-host, due to Canadian content rules put forth by the CRTC. It's complicated.

Isn't this the same set as Chain Reaction (in English)? Both shows taped in Montreal, right?

Commentaire trop mourrant de Lalonde: Y'a de l'action ici!

Non mais quel jeu de mot facile à la fin ! N'empêche que les acteurs invités sont très faciles à reconnaître même 25 ans plus tard.

Pierre Lalonde speaks French besides speaking English (he spoke English when he hosted The Mad Dash from 1978 to 1984!)

Another Canaidan game show host who was also a singer was Blake Eammons (original 1986 New Chain Reaction host before Geoff Edwards took his place).

@heine71 Except Pierre was a good host. Blake wasn't. (If Geoff didn't become Blake's replacement, Pierre would've been a good choice as well.)
